Down Guitarist Comments on Down III
DOWN guitarist Kirk Windstein (CROWBAR) has offered more information on the recording process for the group's third full-length album, tentatively titled "Down III". Producer Warren Riker (CROWBAR, SUBLIME) is helming the effort, for which the band had reportedly composed more than 18 tracks.
Said Windstein: "We record tunes on two-inch tape and then drop them to ProTools. The mixing process is a lot easier with automation. But believe me, we jam our balls off on every tune. This ain't no computerized, polished nu-metal CD. This is the real deal!!"
DOWN's lineup is completed by CORROSION OF CONFORMITY guitarist/vocalist Pepper Keenan, drummer Jimmy Bower (EYEHATEGOD, SUPERJOINT RITUAL guitarist), bassist Rex Brown (ex-PANTERA), and vocalist Philip Anselmo (SUPERJOINT RITUAL, ex-PANTERA).
DOWN recently inked a new North American record deal with the Independent Label Group (ILG), which is composed of Warner Music Group Corp.'s Asylum Records, East West Records and Cordless Recordings.

What is with bands like Down and Unearth naming their albums roman numerals? Do they think it's cool or intellectual or something? Or maybe they just do that to remind themselves how many albums they've done. LOL. Come guys, surely you can be more creative than that.

Down is right on the cusp of not being musically relevant in my library. NOLA was pretty good, Down II was not, and now I have my reservations about this record. When Kirk (or any musician) comes out and says things to the effect of "this new album is like nothin' you've ever heard" or "this ain't no nu-metal," it comes off as "our new record is kind of weak, I need to pump it up a bit so people will buy it." I'll give it a listen because of Pepper, but I'm not spending seventeen bucks on it.
