SYSTEM OF A DOWN singer Serj Tankian plans to release his first solo album this fall, while the rest of his bandmates are also working on individual projects. But as for when SYSTEM itself will get back together, Tankian says it's not really on anyone's radar. "I don't know," he said. "That's the truth. I mean, we've taken an indefinite hiatus and we just said, you know, when we're all ready to come back and take time from our own things and do something together we will, if and when we want to. And it's been left at that."

Tankian plans to issue his debut solo album, titled "Elect The Dead", this fall. The vocalist told Billboard.com that he played most of the instruments himself, but had help from SYSTEM drummer John Dolmayan, former GUNS N' ROSES and PRIMUS drummer Brian "Brain" Mantia and others.

He plans to issue "Elect The Dead" through his Serjical Strike label, with a major label partner that's yet to be determined.

Tankian has also contributed a song to the soundtrack of the psychological thriller "Bug", which comes out later this month.

Meanwhile, SYSTEM bassist Shavo Odadjian has been recording with members of the WU-TANG CLAN during the break and is launching a new online music initiative. Guitarist Daron Malakian has started a new band called SCARS ON BROADWAY and Dolmayan is opening an online comic book store called Torpedo Comics this November.

They broke up, but they called it a "hiatus" so when the money runs out, they can spend a week in the studio churning out another mouthful of diarrhea and make another few million dollars.

A lot of hating on SOAD. I wouldn't consider them metal, but I definatly wouldn't consider them bad. They are a good band that has led a lot of people to heavier music. However, their new albums were not nearly as good as toxicity was.

F*** all you guys, System is an excellent band, they have produce many memorable songs like chop suey, soldiers side, aerials, innervison, byob, spiders, holy mountain all their material is excellent each song is different. They are a typical metal band, their alternative nu metal. Their a great gateway band into metal. They were for me back into 2001 with Toxcity. This hiatus is f***ing bullsh**. I have really enjoyed this band through the years and i stand by them

Well ya get the point! SOAD isn't anti- Turkey so much as anti- genocide. Don't get me wrong I know alot of Turks and they're good people but the fact is they did kill a load of Armenians and it wasn't recognized. When Armenia starts demanding reperaions then maybe you can be p***ed off.

Anyway I like SOAD personally but I realize alot of people don't. It's all good!

I haven't found lyrics insulting the Turkish race, but you find lyrics critical of corprate or totalalitan government. I have never agreed with much of systems politics myself, but they have been a great live band with 5 excellent albums

I must admit, i saw System at Ozzfest last year and was not all that impressed. I really wanted to see Hatebreed, Unearth, Black Label Society, and Ozzy. But now seven months later, my friend has really turned me onto some of their old stuff. The first two albums were the best, Steal this Album sucked, and their new stuff had some good songs but overall wasnt worth the 14.99 to buy it.

SOAD are not nu-metal 1. Because Serj can actually write some poetic and meaningful lyrics unlike the "I hate my mommy" crap slipknot usually come up with
2. Serj doesnt rap.
3. Daron can really duke it out with his guitar (check out the self-titled) and even sprinkles some short solos now and then.SOAD has never had boring korny 3 chord riffs.
4. John's drumming is fairly technical and it ain't sloppy like say John Otto or Joey Jordison.
5. SOAD have more in common with Testament and Meshuggah (check out their self-titled) than Korn or Limp Bizkit.
6. Most of their songs have a progressive feel to them, even though they arent very long.

wow... i can't believe i read all those comments, i must be bored. I can't believe what we are arguing here, it's ridiculous really. Nu-Metal is not only 90's rap metal. What about bands like Nothingface, Factory 81, Primer 55, and Mudvayne (first album)? There is no doubt that system of a down, planted it's roots in 90's NuMetal, alongside other bands such as Fear Factory, who straddled the NuMetal boundaries. They did however evolve away from a strict metal cookie cutout. So what? They always were a cross-over band, even from the first album. I don't believe that a band gaining popularity, makes them less of a certain genre. No matter how famous bands like Black Sabbath, and Iron Maiden are: THEY ARE STILL f***ING METAL. I'ts just that SOAD sucks d*** now.
