Band Photo: Otep (?)

As part of the "People You Should Know" special, CNN.com users sent in their nominations for people they'd like to know more about and one such user was James Padgett of Indiana, who stated, "I would like to see a story on Otep Shamaya. She is the lead singer of the band Otep. She was sexually and emotionally abused as a child and now advocates for kids in that situation. Her lyrics seem to send the message: Get mad, then get help." Other "People You Should Know" nominee recipients include Reverend Dr. Michael Beckwith as well as U2's frontman, Bono. CNN.com chose to feature a photo of Otep, however.

With regards to the appointing of Otep for CNN.com's "People You Should Know", Otep Shamaya states, "This is an unexpected honor to be nominated on my favorite news site."

Otep and CNN theres a combo, they should play intro music to Anderson Cooper 360, who needs a label when you could play for CNN all day.

ok well regardless of what you all think, I think its pretty cool, as far as her reaching out to other abuse victims its a noble cause for her to be nominated and shes involved in metal so another plus at the same time, so f*** anyone that thinks otherwise

Being a good person and having talent are 2 very differnt things. If she acts as a channel for fans to get through their issues so much the better.
I'm am not a fan of Otep. Never looked that bands way once but downloaded a track on the word of friend. The statement and emotion of the band's "Jonestown Tea" comes across as tactless, it's also creepy and genuine. You can throw the rest of the discography in the garbage but that song actually set me on edge...Disturbing.

Now Playing: Devin Townsend Band - "Depth Charge"

Yeah...and somehow MY comment was the only one that was useless...

Someone needs to pick OTEP up by her empty fvcking head and give her a Dragon Suplex down a flight of stairs, then grab her by her lame-ass blue hair and smash her face into the dirt until she's got all kinds of dirt in her mouth and teeth, and then, when she's passed out, wrap her worthless a$$ up in duct tape, and strap her to the underside of a bridge above water so when she wakes up, she can either free herself and plummet to her death, or stay alive trapped under a goddamned bridge.

Goddammit, I fvcking can't stand OTEP. When will she just give up and start dating Vince Neil?

You know why you like OTEP? Because you're a fvcking thirteen year old teeny bopper with your fvcking fallout boy hoodies and your goddamned red jumpsuit apparatus posters. shut your fvcking mouth. you're a cvun just like otep. why don't you go to wherever she is and eat her damn a$$ out since you love her so much.

And the name's "JingoJango" whore, learn to read.

And whoever the hell's fake-ass s/n on post 13 can suck my sh1t, too.

I WOULDN'T care if I weren't so bothered by the number of people that DO care. There's tons of more deserving people out there. Like Tori Amos. Same situation, only MORE TALENTED. f*** OTEP. Who the fvck does OTEP "stand up" for? Herself and her horrible band. "Get mad, then get help" is one of the sh**tiest possible solutions to getting fvcking molested. How does this b1tch scream into a microphone and somehow heal everyone who's ever been molested?

TRUTH:

She took a horrible situation and found a way to turn it into $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. I'm not falling for it. Anyone who does fall for it is a fvcking dumbass. Money doesn't fix memories of rape and molestation. Mispelling simple words like "Thoughts" on your album doesn't make you look like you're persevering, it makes you look like a fvcking downsyndromer who is blaming all of their problems on one issue that most normal people would use as a stepping stone to perseverance, rather than hijacking it and locking yourself inside that moment and acting like a bratty 8 year old your entire career. Then you name a song "Menocide"? Fvck OTEP. You need to quit listening to what HOT TOPIC tells you to.

OTEP is like the fat chick from junior high school that wrote sh**ty poetry and wore dumb clothes just so every one payed attention, and then she cried all the time because she didn't want to be stared at.

But hey, I ain't supporting her.

Garbage in = Garbage out.
