Sounds of the Underground 2007 Lineup and Tour Dates Announced

Band Photo: Amon Amarth (?)
Sounds of the Underground has announced the lineup for their annual tour. Following two straight appearances in the middle of the day, the event will be closed most nights by splatter metal champions, GWAR; ensuring that fans will remain blood and gore-free until the closing hours of the show. Three other bands will rotate in the headlining position prior to GWAR: a block-buster artist yet to be announced, face-shredding metal pugilists Chimaira, and experimental noisemakers Every Time I Die.
The day will be completed with a bill including Necro, Darkest Hour, Amon Amarth, The Acacia Strain, The Devil Wears Prada, HeavyHeavyLowLow, The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Goatwhore, This Is Hell, and 2 Cents. Expect additional special guest headliners to join the bill on select dates.
The touring festival launches in July and runs into August.
Mark Hunter, Chimaira vocalist boasts, "We are happy to announce that we will be taking part in this years Sounds Of The Underground. We played the first year and we had a fucking blast. This year we are going to up the production level and bring something special to our fans. Then we will get wasted every night with ETID and Gwar. See you this summer!"
After being involved with the tour for it's first two years, Hot Topic is stepping up to present the tour this summer. Continuing another tradition, Hot Topic will carry the 2007 version of the 2CD + 1 DVD Sounds Of The Underground Exclusive Compilation - look for it in stores and online in late June.
The organizers for this year's Sounds of the Underground Tour; Paul Conroy and Carl Severson of Ferret Music, Tim Borror of The Agency Group, Larry Mazer of Entertainment Services, with Tour Producer Live Nation along with partners Metal Blade Records, Prosthetic Records, Trustkill Records and The Syndicate, and tour sponsors Music Choice, Ibanez, Tama, Purevolume, AOL Radio, Revolver Magazine, and Lambgoat are excited to embark on this third year of mayhem.
Tickets will be available for presale starting April 25th and everywhere May 11. You can find constant updates, news, ticket and artist info at http://www.soundsoftheundergroundtour.com

Wow. . .Sounds of the Sceneground Tour? No wonder, Hot Topic. Why are metal stalwarts like Darkest Hour and Amon Amarth on the same tour as psuedo-grind bands like the number 12 (looks like the letter R) and not heavy not heavy. Oh well; not coming to the Burgh anyway.

6. writes:
Mixed bag...figures.
Sotu is supposed to reach a broad crosssection of "metal" listener be they mallcore fan, average-joe metal fan or psychotically devoted to "true metal". You net the most fish with a variety of bates and hooks. This is the environment where converts are made.
Now Playing: Meshuggah - "I"

AMON AMARTH i sick live i saw them not too long ago with CHILDREN OF BODOM and they kicked serious ass, put on an awesome show and were true to their viking metal ways, in which they are one of the only bands to actually do that. CHIMAIRA that is a band that i recently got into and am starting to have a liking for, so basicaly excitied, i am used to indoor and outdoor venues to that is not the issue. i am hoping that it is inexpensive and no ozzfest did not take all of the good bands. i agree that is no wonder that hot topic sponsered the event HEAVY HEAVY LOW LOW and THE NUMBER TWELVE LOOKS LIKE YOU and f***ing EVERY TIME I DIE, can you say wanna be grind, emo core...seriously...i am here for AMON AMARTH...this is suppose to be a metalfestival this is a crap ineup overall...whatever....cheers.....

15. writes:
Well, I don't know what is actually worse: Ozzfest 2007 or SOTU 2007. The only GOOD bands at Ozzfest are LoG, Behemoth and Nile. I mean, I f***ing hate Chimaira. GWAR is always a solid choice. But Every Time I Die? And what the f*** did they do the support acts? I mean, besides a few decent choices, the support acts completely f***ing suck. All I'm curious now is to see who is the block-buster act. Hmm, I have two choices: Metallica or Guns & Roses. But either way, I still don't care. Now, last year's SOTU f***ing ruled. I don't know if I can say the same for this lineup. We shall see.

21. writes:
ok im pretty bummed about the line up....necro, gwar chimaira, goatwhore, and amon amarth r the only bands that are good...necro ive heard once and for a different style they're at least fun to see. but isnt there a petition thing u can start to knock off bands???
didnt they do that to bullet for my valentine on the maiden tour or something?
idk but if u can...someone needs to start something and knock off devil wears prada, heavy heavy low low, number 12 looks like u, and maybe the avacia strain....i dont want to see girl pants this summer
OR
(pathetic way)
we can send friend requests to them on myspace...and then tell them to get the f*** off sotu and give them a bunch of sh**.....idk....im just trying to think of every way we can egt these sh** bands off the tour

25. writes:
The lineup is almost good. Just get rid of Gwar, Goatwhore, Amon Amarth, Necro, and Chimira. And replace them with some good bands like Despised icon, Beneath the sky, Bury your dead, or Remembering never. But the Acacia strain is going to kick ass. So is Every time i die and Darkest hour.
27. writes:
And xHardcorechickx, if they got rid of GWAR and Chimaira I wouldn't go. And I know a lot of people probably wouldn't go if they got rid of Amon Amarth and Goatwhore too. Look at the previous posts. But I'm glad that Despised Icon won't be on the show because I wantt o see them and I'm not going to be going to this show.

34. writes:
SOTU is traditionaly a metalcore festival with a few other bands mixed in, if your going just to see gwar or amon amarth, then you should pick another tour, we dont need you complaing while all the other bands play. Thats what happened last year and it p***ed me off. I like both amon amarth and heavy heavy low low, and just for your information, Amon Amarth and Goatwhore are more hot topic than #12 looks like you , Heavy Heavy Low Low, and Every Time I Die...

35. writes:
I'm only happy with Chimaira and AMON AMARTH, holy sh** I love Amon Amarth, been dieing to see them for several years, can finally see them. the first year was by far the best SOTU. other than Amon Amarth and Chimaira I'm really disappointed with this tour this year... THANK YOU OZZY FOR FINALLY GETTING IT BACK TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OZZFEST ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

37. writes:
I havnt been back to SOTU since the first year were the bands were f***in awesome. The lineup as sick, the idea of Sounds was to never bring back repeated bands. Chimaira is going to be the first band to actually break this rule, maybe 08 wil be better. Sorry i just am not interested yet, looks like i have to start downloading some tunes. The Emo bands can burn in hell for all i care, if they suck i know Chi-town will be booing them. But i dont know how i can be in Congress Theatre all f***ing day, its not much bigger than HoB. Many people are complaining about GWAR, but thats going to be the chocolate of the show. GWAR is a stage band people, they dont make money from any albums trust me. There was this episode of remember the 80s and they pulled GWAR onto the spotlight. They were like "so where have you been since the 80s" all GWAR said was "On tour". They are to make people laugh, and go buck wild in the pits, and get gooed by there water guns. What more fun is that. They do have the propper spot this year as the nights finisher and not intermission. Ill go to Ozzfest this year hands down. I have to decide on this one, hopefully its just not to expensive. To bad DevilDriver hasnt come out with there album yet, they could give this year a good touch to.

39. writes:
Well DevilDriver will be on the Invaluable Darkness Tour so it's not like they wouldn't be able to tour, but so far it doesn't seem like they have any tour plans for the summer after the tour with Dimmu Borgir. And I agree with you 100% on the Congress Theatre. It can hold 5,000 people but that's double the size of the HOB. I don't want to be stuck in there for 10 hrs, Gigantour was annoying enough being stuck in there. With this many bands it needs to f***ing be outside. Maybe they didn't get enough people at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre last year so they decided to get a smaller place? Just my thought.

41. writes:
Oh yah i forgot about them with Dimmu Borgir. It seems there are more than just the Chicago show indoors this year though. Maybe SOTU arent making money needed for the tour needs? If thats the case we will see crappier bands till this tour is nothing more than our memories. Im not to sound like a d*** but Chimairas new CD isnt the greatest ever. I bought Static-Xs new album and chimairas. Static has filled my ears a few days now lol. Gwar will always play and bring a crowd, but unless the suprise guest isnt an aweing band, this tour is going to slowly crash, especially if they are going to begin signing emocore, yuck

It almost seems like everyone wants to see AA. I agree Amon Amarth Chimaira and Goatwhore(just started on them) are probably the best bands I dont like GWAR cant wait to see the other blockbuster band if it is bodom i will walk if i have to im goin anyway to see AA but WTF the devil wears prada suck balls and i never either heard of or heard the other bands so I really dont care about a band called heavyheavylowlow at least i will have plenty of piss and food breaks

47. writes:
How do you figure Amon and Goatwhore are more Hot Topic than The Number 12 and HHLL? You wouldn't see a single scene kid at an Amon headline show but who are all at Number 12 and HHLL? Guys in chick pants and girls who look like vampire versions of hair metal chicks.

48. writes:
wat the hell r u talking about hot topic bands, all those f***ing kids that go in hot topic are girl pants starighten hair fags, and then u have yur basketball flat cap gauge earing hardcore ninja kids ...both of which who will b basically dominating sotu....SOMEONE DO THE f***ING PETITION THING TO KNOCK OF THESE sh**TY BANDS LIKE HEAVY HEAVY LOW LOW AND THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA AND NUMBER 12

54. writes:
shadows fall is now on the bill........its getting a lil better, their new album is really calm but like its a nice album to chill too and sh**, but shadows fall if they play sh** from somber eyes and of one blood and art fo balance and...basically everything then it should be a great show...bodom should definitly play but i doubt it and ozzfest will probably take them, they wanted it last year or w/e

56. writes:

I generaly consider Hot Topic to be more mall gothy than scene...

66. writes:
If none of you are familiar with Necro, yes he is a white rapper who used to play in a metal band Injustice years ago. They opened for bands such as Obituary and Napalm Death. Their demo from '91 is quite good for the lead guitar player, Necro, being 12 years old.
Alot of his work is rapping to metal which given the likes of Linkin Park will turn people off but it is vastly different. In fact, his album "Prefix for Death" had metal legends such as Piggy D'Amour from Voivod, John Tardy and Trevor Perez from Obituary, and both Cavalera brothers. A future album is set to have members of Lamb of God and a full straight up metal album with Igor Cavalera is in the works. So before you knock the guy know he is pretty respected by alot of your favorite metal musicians. This is the type of rap that a metal fan might enjoy if he is open to it at all.

69. writes:
Wow, this lineup is very dissapointing for me. And again skipping Indy pisses me off. Amon Amarth, Darkest Hour, Goatwhore, and Chimaira are the only good bands in my opinion. WTF is with all these sh**ty hardcore/emo bands, lets get shadows fall, children of bodom, all that remains, god forbid, mastodon, nevermore or some other bands with some talent.

72. writes:
wow red_chord ...yur a f***ing gay......i might be wrong but...i bet yur one of those kids now who love every band tha comes out with pig squels, sweep picking guitars, blast beats , gay f***ing music in general....thats y u have no ear for great music , u just listen to basically every victory record band or small label sh**....guarntee u like job for a cowboy...f***ing queer

74. writes:
What's wrong with Job for a Cowboy?
I think they're f***ing insane.
I don't like GWAR for the simple fact that I don't like humor mixed in with the meaning of the music. Sure, if you want to f*** around on stage and act like an idiot, that's fine. The lyrics and topics of GWAR's music just doesn't do it for me.
Granted, they are hilarious, but not my kind of style.
I'm looking forward to Amon Amarth, who isn't just a band but a whole idea of religion. Chimaira, Job for a Cowboy, and Goatwhore will put on solid shows as well.

Hey post 86, whose mocking SOTU? Some bands some people don't like and some they do, just like every festival. It's rare that you'll like all the bands. I'm just p***ed that they're having a bunch of indoor venues added too, that sucks balls. Even with Gigantour being inside it was really really f***ing hot and it was only 8 bands. This is well over that.

92. writes:
on ticketmasters site if you look up SOTU one search result comes up with the tour being headlined by GWAR Chimaira and Mushroomhead, then theres the other result with just the tour name, so maybe Mushroomhead is that unannounced band, ticketmaster does that sometimes where they list the tour by itself and and then also list the tour with the headlining bands, so either its a special date or that other band is Mushroomhead.
I'm not too thrilled with the lineup except for Chimaira and Amon Amarth(HELL YEAH!!!) of course, those two are great bands, so if it is mushroomhead that would be really cool

94. writes:
Yes Lord Cashington is back I hope you had a nice vacation in the Islands my rich friend. Yes, you should buy SOTU and make it better. I know you like good bands and maybe you should buy GWAR and split them up and make sure that everything they ever did will dissapear from the face of the earth...and as you know I am really rich myself with all my elactic rubber band factories so I could help you take over every metal festivals around the world...what do you say Lord ?

95. writes:
a si aha!
my old nemesises (or is it nemisi?) Red_Chord and Lord Cashington. Red_Chord, i see you've purchased more elastic band factories since our last encounter and i'll have you know that they are still no match for my rubber band factories!!!
however, instead of waging war, i have a proposal to make: i would also like to join you both in buying out all of the metal fests and oversaturate them with good bands. do we have a deal?

96. writes:
Hmm, now gentlemen, as you are aware, I am the richest man in the universe but still, since I have grown fond of this Undeground Metal site, I shall accept your propasals for a joint festival purchase. Perhaps we should merely form our own travelling festival in which patrons have the opportunity to throw bricks at the poor and whomsoever can make Sharon Osbourne shut her mouth will receive a terrific prize (as well as the Nobel Peace one). I propose to name this festival CashScam! Being a decent sort of chap, I believe the first band I shall book will be those delightful fellows from Testament. I do so love Burnt Offerings! I believe that I shall book some of those fine German chaps too! I am sure when they hear that a festival is being run by Red Chord, Terminator and my good self, Kreator and Destruction would be thrilled to perform! And using my vast wealth and greatness, I shall make Forbidden reform for only this festival! You gentle sirs and I shall put on the greatest festival known to man!

98. writes:
-"f***ing emo and viking metal sh** has bombarded this one!!!!!! f***!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
your a f***ing dusche,
1. Amon Amarth is the only viking metal band on the tour, I'm pretty sure one band doesn't qualify as a bombardment,
2. Amon Amarth is an INCREDIBLE BAND!!! f*** YOU!!!!!
and
3. As I Lay Dying IS screamo (emo metal), terrible band might I add
you f***ing idiot
99. writes:
Well, I don't see why we shouldn't cooperate this time. My Mexican friend and Lord CAshington, we shall join our efforts to make this show a memorable one...and crush all the other ones under our piles of money. Mouhahahahahaha. Sharon Osbourn will surely try to bully us, but she doesn't know that the 3 of us have our own private armed forces at our disposal.
There are a lot of Swedish friends that should be on this show. I have already talked to Meshuggah and they would be more than happy to play on our tour. I would like Mastodon to be there as well. I have many more great ideas but I am waiting for Terminator's suggestions before moving on.
And by the way, I have bought asseless chaps factories around the world. I will provide all the bands at our festival and more precisely BLS because they love those.

100. writes:
In order to make this the greatest True Metal Fest of all time (which seems to be shaping up nicely thus far), i have reunited the Cavelera brothers with sepultura and have convinced them to join our fest. i would also enjoy seeing flotsam and jetsam, iced earth and armored saint on this tour.
i am currently in discussions with behemoth and nile to ditch sharonfest and join True Metal Fest, but i may need your help Red_Chord, Lord Cashington.
My final proposal is that we utilize three tremendous stages. one for death and black metal bands, one for thrash and traditional metal bands and a mainstage for our headling bands. what would you think about that?

102. writes:
and excellent suggestion STD. perhaps you should join our coalition of inhumanly wealthy, metal alliance! i know how much you despise opeth, so i wont invite them.
Lord Cashington- it appears that testament is now playing at SOTU. we must act quickly to lure them away and play at our fest.

103. writes:
I only went to this festival the first year to see GWAR and LAMB OF GOD, the second year to see GWAR and CANNIBAL CORPSE. In my opinion, however "good' the other bands may have been, they were nothing out of the ordinary, and there was no liquor served at the event so I had to drink outside the building, choosing my time to go in wisely - of course there were no "in-and-out" privelages, why would there be? That would just be promoting people to do their own thing (whether it be drinking, screwing their girlfriend in the parking lot, or otherwise) - which is not what metal represents anymore, even on a simple level. Now, they're not even coming close to Vancouver this year? What the f**k? I would have expected at least a Seattle show.

104. writes:
Never fear for I have actually invested in SOTU after all but I shall still be forming Cash Scam with you fine fellows! I am happy to announce that three friends of mine have agreed to perform also, you know them as Celtic Frost. I feel it only fitting that since our festival of epic proportions has Celtic Frost booked, then Venom must also play! I too am not fond of Opeth so I believe we shall leave them out this year. And my congratulations to you on reuniting the Cavalera brothers with those fantastic chaps Sepultura! May I ask if this will be the Schitzophrenia line up or the one previous with Jairo Tormentor (noy my gardener)? I am also pleased to announce that (as they have told my good self) the final ever performances of the original line up of Black Sabbath will be exclusive to Cash Scam! I feel therefore it is only fitting to award these chaps with the headlining spot.

106. writes:
They never come anywhere near I live, but every year I see the band lineup I get envious that they don't come close to me. They always have good line ups at SOTU. Then again, most metal tours do, I like black, death, thrash, power, and metalcore. Nothing will ever top 2006's Unholy Alliance Tour for me though.

107. writes:
I bet that everyone on here that is talking about how much they love Amon Amart only knows their latest album because it was mainstream peice of trash. Do any of you even know a song from any of their other (real death metal) albums, withuot searching them on google. I remember when they first came out, and even up until "Fate Of Norns" (2004) was released, it was all of you people who were saying how much Amon Amarth sucked. All of you people are f***ing idiots becuase if you really liked this band, you would just a p***ed off as I am about the fact that they are having to play with terrible bands like Job For A Cowboy, ETID, Darkest Hour, Chimaira, NECRO and every other f***ing band on that bill with maybe the slightest possible exception to Gwar. This tour is a joke and is only going to further the downfall of such a great band like Amon Amarth

112. writes:
Jesus Is A c***......are you f***ing retarded??? Seriuosly. Theres only one Viking metal band on the bill and theyre not even really classified as a viking metal band becuase theres technically no such thing. And for Lord Cashington, you obviuosly do not like amon Amarth the way you say you do becuase if you were a die hard fan of them you would NOT be happy about this tour at all. Necr, though he may be a good rapper....but I dont even know, shouldnt be on a f***ing metal tour. It just doesnt fit. Are you trying to tell me that would go see a Gwen Stefani, p***y Cat Dolls, AFI, The Red Chord, Slayer, Vital Remains and Cannibal Corpse tour?? Im sure you would. Is that the REAL tour that youre talking about??

113. writes:
My dear sir, I don't recall ever saying I liked this Amon Amarth! Frankly I've never heard them. But myself and the gentle squiers of this site and everyone else in the whole world hates people that arrive and spout about how they were into a band before everyone else heard of them! Now I must open my new money factory! Toodle pip everyone!
114. writes:
wtf r u talkin bout jesus is a c***? there isnt a goddamn viking band on the bill, the closest thing is Amon Amarth but there melodic death metal, viking is black metal music with viking lyrics and if u want to proove me wrong tell me the names of all the viking bands on the bill
115. writes:
Well, our lineeup is certainly shapping up to be so awesome. Do you really think that 3 stages will be enough ? We would need a stage for naked chicks, just for the heck of it...hehehehehehe. I think that we should also find a way to pay a special tribute to Voivod at our fest, they deserve it.
The Sepultura reunion really looks awesome by the way, good move.
I know what would be awesome, a extreme performance stage, with bands that actually kick the crap out of each other onstage, wether it is accidentaly of on purpose or just goes all out no matter what.. I suggest that we sign Unearth, The Dillinger Escape Plan and many more crazy bastards

116. writes:
good call on the naked chicks stage!!! but we must only allow it to be in use during intermissions otherwise i wont pay attention to all of the amazing bands we've gathered :)
Lord Cashington- the reunited sepultura lineup consists of the schizophrenia lineup (my personal favorite).

122. writes:
its not that i don't have a sense of humor.....its just that im extremely sad that my favorite band of all time, since 1996 is now stuck on some sh**ty tour like this. if you had a real love for music too you would feel the same if your favorite band did the same thing

123. writes:
Sir Hegg, would you kindly bugger off! I must confess that my most favourite band would be those delightful chaps Slayer (second only to Mozart who I play at a terriffic volume in my mansion) and those chappys are going to be touring with Marylin Manson and I don't much care for her at all! However, seeing as that's what Slayer wishes then so be it! Perhaps you should think that perhaps your favourite band of all time might actually WANT to do this tour! Now sod off you grubby little urchin! Us rich and important people have a festival to plan!
124. writes:
I am absolutely delighted by Lord Cashington's comments. I really feel they represent my feelings as well. Marylin Manson ? Isn't she that drama queen that knows how to manipulate the media ? Quite right I think...and those Slayer chaps would certainly drop their tour to come on our tour.
By the way I just listened to the new albums from Machine Head and Chimaira and they are both amazing...they should be on our tour.
Tata lads, got to go take care of my new slime balls factories
125. writes:
alright hegg my top 2 fav. bands r on sh**ty tours, like Lord Cashington mentioned my 2nd fav. band slayer is touring with Marilyn Manson for god sakes and my favorite band is Metallica and i dont think i have to tell you about the sh** they have been pullin since 1996

127. writes:
Yeah, I guess you can't have great lineups every years...but in the end if the lineup doesn't fit your taste, you stay away from it. That's the only power we have. We'll see for next year.
But Lord Cashington's, Terminator's and me will have an absolutely fantastic tour, setup by our great wealth and power. Naked chicks WILL be there onstage between bands just to keep you aroused...I mean interested...
