Megadeth: The Song Doesn't Belong To The Killer

Hayder Kadhim, a student who was shot three times by gunman Kimveer Gill at Dawson College in Montreal, Quebec, Canada last September, is outraged that MEGADETH is set to release a new version of a song that inspired the gunman.

Frontman Dave Mustaine spoke to Cassandra Szklarski of the Canadian Press and commented about the track long misinterpreted as pro-suicide when in fact it was written about the sudden death of his mother.

"The song doesn't belong to the killer. The song belongs to the people of Montreal, if anything it belongs to me and it was my gift to them. It was never meant to be misinterpreted like that."

The gunman, Kimveer Gill singled out "A Tout le Monde" as one of his favourites in hate-filled online posts that immediately preceded his rampage Sept. 13, when he shot dead student Anastasia De Sousa and injured 20 others. He killed himself after being wounded in a shootout with police.

"For the simple fact that Kimveer Gill was listening to (the song) and he injured students like me and also killed Anastasia, who was a friend of mine, this artist should put this song on the side out of respect to the victims," Kadhim said. "That song triggered Kimveer Gill's actions."

Kadhim, a hip-hop artist, still has fragments of a bullet in his head and another bullet remains lodged in his neck.

If MEGADETH leader Dave Mustaine is thinking of capitalizing on the shootings, "I think that's disrespectful to us. I believe respect comes before money," Kadhim said.

Rose Slanic, general manager of Roadrunner Records Canada, which is releasing the MEGADETH album, said the song was recorded prior to the Dawson shooting and is not disrespectful toward the victims.

"From our standpoint," she said "we don't affiliate ourselves with negative things. There's no negative message in the song."

If they take it off the album, they should take it off because it sucks ass, not because some kid misinterpreted it. All of these whiny crybaby parents should go suck on a big fat c0ck and go piss up a rope. Yeah, so your kids got shot, and instead of blaming themselves, they blame music, when they raised a$$holes for kids and the kid probably shot them because they poked fun at the kid for being a metalhead and they probably called him a "fa**ot" and a "freak" all the fvckin time. Any metalhead knows what I'm talking about so don't even start flaming me for being insensitive, when you all know the truth. Every metalhead gets picked on in high school because some jock d*** head can't help picking on him because it turns the cheerleaders on. I almost smashed a kids face in with a lead mallet on Metal Tech class because he wouldn't leave me the f*** alone. I wore baggy-a$$ jeans and metal shirts everyday and this kid just happened to sit next to his girlfriend in classs, which would explain why he showed his a$$ in Tech, but outside of the class he was cool. Needless to say, after I snatched his scrawny a$$ up by the fvcking neck and smashed the back of his head down on the shop table and raised the mallet above my head and told him to sh** his fvcking mouth before i break it, he quieted down. He was also without girlfriend by the month's end. And you can't rely on the Principal, or the Counselors, or even the school policeman to help you, because I told all of them I was being harassed on a daily basis by lots of kids and they all told me to get over it, and that kids were just being kids, which may have been true, but they sure as hell didn't reprimand the kid I almost bludgeoned. When I had my expulsion hearing a few days later, suddenly the counselors, the school PIG, and the Principal all came to my aid and told the judge that I shouldn't be expelled. And I wasn't expelled. But I never went back to that school. And I never will. Nobody cares about these kids. The parents work all day and the kids have to raise themselves. I'd be goddamned that if some old lady with giant glasses and a nice office is gonna tell me how to conduct myself after i taught myself how to live, practically. Latch-key kid, my ass. I was a latch-key kid's kid.

Even though I hate this version of this song, I will stop listening to Megadeth if they take it off for this reason. If they puss-out and bow to these whiny fvckin' parents, I will burn (read: sell) everything Megadeth I own.

Didn't anyone notice how a "hip/hop artist" thinks that a Megadeth song inspired someone to shoot up a college? Megadeth is one of my favorite bands, and I even like the song in question, but I can't help wondering if the dude had been shot by a "thug" or whatever the hell rap fans call themselves these days, if he would feel the same way...

Or would he gain "street cred" and cash in on it himself?

this Hayder guy needs to get his sh** together. They say he is a hip hop artist, are you gonna tell me that nobody has been injured or killed at hip hop shows or that the majority of messages sent out by hip hop artists music and videos never inspired some idiot to do stupid sh**? Whether you like megadeth or not,if some dumbass kills someone because of a song, this person already has serious issues. It has nothing to do with the artist or song.
