Original Heathen Vocalist Sam Kress Passes Away

Sam Kress, the original vocalist of acclaimed San Francisco Bay Area thrashers HEATHEN and former co-editor of early '80s underground fanzine Whiplash, passed away several days ago. The cause of his death has not been released.
In a recent posting on his blog, Whiplash co-founder Brian Lew had the following to say about Sam Kress:
"Sam and I created a metal 'zine called Whiplash. Basically, Sam was more the business guy and I was more the creative guy and we worked well together... We also spent a lot of time hanging out with other metalhead friends... Listening to metal, drinking, being young and stupid. I can't even guess how many times I crashed on his couch.
"While in New York, Sam had befriended a guy starting a record label called Torrid. Long story short, Sam helped broker the release of EXODUS' seminal debut album 'Bonded By Blood' on the Torrid / Combat Records label in 1985.
"I've always considered 'Bonded By Blood' to be THE defining album of the Bay Area old metal scene. No disrespect to METALLICA's 'Kill 'Em All', but METALLICA's songs were primarily written before the band relocated from SoCal to S.F.; EXODUS were 100% Bay Area born and bred. East Bay OG. EXODUS raged the hardest and Sam and I were right there with them.
"Sam and I are thanked side-by-side in the liner notes of several old metal albums, including METALLICA's 'Ride The Lightning' and EXODUS' 'Bonded By Blood'. We were metal bruthas and back then that meant A LOT."

Err, godlike do you even listen to Heathen? Some of their stuff was pretty cool, although I'd take Exodus, Holy Moses, Dark Angel etc any day. Respect to anyone who gets involved in the metal scene like that.
antihippy, what about Alarum, The Bezerker, Dungeon? etc.

Actually, I am a full time student and working part-time....I'm still trying to figure out what I am gonna be when I grow up... ( C'mon, everyone knows the stories of the struggling musician..!!! )
I spent many, many years working construction..and recently I decided that I am sick of breaking my back for a living... Its time to go back to working in an office...

No, I cant say that I have ever considered that...but thats not a bad idea....If there was just the courses offered at a school close to me...I live in rural midwest...the closest trade schools dont offer any classes like that...It would all have to be done online..and that sucks....beleive me, I am already doing it with a class..
After a life long facsination with guitars ...I'd love to work as a luthier... I do my own repairs and mods and have actually refinished a few axes over the years... But the market is already flooded with numerous small time luthiers that make some phenominal guitars..Ever heard of Abyss..??
I talked to the guy a couple years ago...He lives in Iowa..makes and sells his own line of guitars...they are amazing...high end, like custom shop PRS type stuff.... At that time it was just him, working out of his shop behind his house... made like 5 or 6 a year..but they sell for like 3-5 grand a peice... I dont know if he has expanded since then or not...I dont do alot of shopping in the price range...

R.I.P. Man these people need to quit dying. I wonder if there's some sort of pact or cult thing going on in the Metal world amoung all these bands? Because they seem to be dropping like flies. F*** the Prince of Darkness is still alive and kicking more or less why can't they take a lesson from him and stick around longer? Ozzie's like what 50 and he's still around and there's all these dead 25 year olds dropping dead on us metal fans.
