Black Dahlia Murder Could Be Looking For Another Drummer Again
Justin Donnelly of The Metal Forge recently conducted an interview with THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER guitarist Brian Eschbach. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
On how well the current incarnation of the band is holding up on the road:
"It's pretty gruelling on the road sometimes, and since the release of 'Miasma', we've hardly been home for any great length of time. Sometimes it is a hard road, and other times it's not. It takes a certain type of person to do this full-time. If you can go without a lot of things, you can do this touring thing very easily. But if you're after security, it's not particularly the right place to be in. We made the couple of newer members (bassist Bart Williams and drummer Pierre Langlois) we found join the band as permanent members back in April. Prior to that, they had been playing with us for the whole year pretty much. So since April, things were looking pretty solid for the band. That was until recently. We'll be probably looking for another drummer pretty soon, because Langlois is not exactly into doing the whole road thing. Our previous drummers (Cory Grady and Zach Gibson) were let go because they weren't taking the band as seriously as the rest of the other band members were. This time it just happens to be different. We're extremely happy with the way Langlois plays. We wished that this was something that he really wanted to do, but it would seem that he would rather go home and be a civilian. It hasn't been made official yet, but between all of us in the band, it's been the hot topic of conversations with him. I think after being on a pretty regular tour schedule, he knows what this life is like, and he doesn't really want that. We'll just have to see what happens."
On plans to write and record a new CD:
"After we're finished doing the dates down there in Australia, we'll be off the road until we put out a new album. We plan to head into the studio in March. At this point, we have a lot of ideas, along with a couple of songs pieced together. It's hard to tell people that they shouldn't expect anything too different, because that's exactly what I would have told them leading up to the release of 'Miasma' after 'Unhallowed'. But then a lot of people have told me countless times that they're two extremely different albums. So I don't think I would be able to give you a good statement anyway! (Laughs) I think there's an element of progression from our last album in a sound sense. But again, it's hard to tell you much at this stage. We're just doing what we do, and trying to create better songs. Hopefully there will be some progression there. We just hope to write some songs that we really like, and songs that fans will enjoy once the new album is out. That's all we can do."

they are serious enough to bounce 3 drummers out of their band in the last year and a half so i dont know what all you guys are talking about when you say "they're not that serious". when you guys met them im sure that they were drunk, probably after their set. im sure they have to make serious decisions as well. you can tell they are in it to win it. (i mean come on, again 3 drummers in 1 year, get over yourselves. their are plenty of good drummers out their.....and your stuff is neither that difficult to play nor is it that good).

Hahahaha you kids are a bunch of jokesters. Firstly, he clearly said that it was the hot topic within the bands conversing that the drummer isnt set for the 'touring lifestyle'. Are you blind are just f***in' immature to come bash a band because they are letting go of their drummer?! You are not the band n'or do you know the musicians who had been released from the band already... So grow the f*** up. Also don't cus about a bands talent if you arent making music of your own.. Try and create something yourself and not play other bands music, f***in losers. lol

dying invain, the black dahlia murder is a new band, so what are you talking about. if you mixed carcass' "heartwork", and at the gates "slaughter of the soul" w/ a little bit of suffocation in their and you have the black dahlia murder. there is not one band out right now that owes anything to these posers. (i call them posers but there certainly are worse clones out there right now)....and unknown 101 i doubt that you know anymore than anyone else who posts on this topic. either your in the f***in band or your just full of sh**. your high and mighty post is arrogant enough that i might believe you were brian eschbach himself.

let me clear you up on a couple of things. First of all...
it's three drummers in 2.5 years. Secondly, if you read the interview above and were able to retain points from it, you would see that we aren't booting anyone this time around and that Pierre has made the decision to not play in a touring band. Also, Metalmayhem, how did you in your towering intelligence "gather" that Pierre didn't know about what was going on? In late summer he made it abundantly clear to the band that he had no intention of sticking around after this year's touring obligations were met. You obviously know sh** besides the fact that we are way down with carcass, atg, and suffo to name a small few.
way to go.

I think it's pretty damn sad that a thread has come down to harassing each other about their screen names. Black Dahlia Murder in their own right have established themselves as a band, and I dare anyone to say that the same petty politics that are evident within their ranks are absent between you and your own close friends from time to time.
Absconding from a band's lifestyle doesn't always have something to do with the founding members. Just because Ozzy left Black Sabbath didn't make BS any less of a band (albeit, they didn't sound as good). Though admittedly, the two bands are incomparable - stylewise et al.
