Brutus Drummer Commits Suicide
According to Metalfan.nl, Dutch death metal drummer Maarten "Ploegbaas" Luysterburg (BRUTUS, ex-GODDESS OF DESIRE) took his own life on Tuesday, October 24. He was 25 years old.
In a posting in the guestbook section of BRUTUS' official web site, the band confirmed Luysterburg's passing, stating that "the weight of the world motivated him throughout his life but in the end got the best of him." Maarten was said to be very focused on his mental recovery during the last couple of months and had a lot of things to do in life, which made this turn of events even more shocking for those close to him.
Services for Maarten "Ploegbaas" Luysterburg will be held on Monday, October 30 in Etten-Leur, Holland.

Sad...recently happened with a friend of mine brother, he was determined to die to the point where he planned it out weeks ahead of when he did it and lied to everyone so he could create the opportunity.
RIP, and best to Luysterburg friends and family. It's a selfish and sad thing to do and sad that someone could be so Distraught.

What gets me is how young some of these kids are. I mean, metal is aging and so are its founders, so we will continue to see more deaths of some of the early era bands. But many of these latest rash of deaths have been in their 20's, and that's really a shame.

another death in the metal community
reports that bassist and founding member of ROSE TATTOO Ian Rilen lost his long suffering battle with bladder cancer.
Rilen died this morning (Monday, October 30) surrounded by friends and family.
With a career spanning thirty years, Rilen helped shape the sound of Australian hard rock in the '70s and '80s, playing with ROSE TATTOO where he wrote the Oz-rock classic "Bad Boy for Love".
Not happy with the direction ROSE TATTOO were taking, Rilen left to form X (not the L.A.-based punk rock group, but the Sydney-formed, Melbourne-based rockers) in 1977, where he launched a full-scale sonic attack on the masses.

HAHA-
I understand your perspective, from a perspective of non understanding I once had about this issue. If you are unclear on the concept, depression, illness, etc is not a controlled aspect of that person's life. Illness moves at it's own pace and depression is a metal disease. The people afflict with such things often aren't making rational choices.
If someone were to commit suicide 'just because' then yes, they are weak. But someone who is suffering from a metal disorder like depression is not making well thought out decisions about what they should and shouldn't do. If it were someone close to you, I doubt you would say what you're saying...

It is sad that another musician took his life and I do feel for the family but I respect the man's decision to end his life. I don't see it as weakness if a person sees the terrible atrocities the human race commits upon one another and, therefore, rejects being a part of this specie/world. We allow an adult to make every decision about their life except when to end it. And I understand that depression plays a large part in suicide. But I believe in some cases we peg mental illness onto someone just because they may have a different mode of thought on life than us.
Either way RIP

dude, this is f***ed up....i mean, damn..its hard to belive that all of these young f***ers can just die on us while ozzy is still walking around. they should look at him and have enough motivation to stay the f*** alive because of all hes been through, and yet still remains with us.

DUDE WTF?! How many band members are goning to die? This is sad and starting to get annoying. Yeah Hell the PRINCE OF DRAKNESS Ozzie is still alive and more or less well and these young guys need to look at him and stay around. Maybe there's a conspiracy going on in the death metal bands?

Haha this whole sequence of drummers dying is much like spinal tap... very funny but horribly tragic when you come back to reality. Also, depression is not a metal disease, because not all metal fans experience depression. You are really giving us a bad wrap by saying that it is OUR disease, and you are as bad as the people who stereotype us. I believe the best type of subject for a poem (or song) is melancholy whether it be depression, sickness, or heartache, but to say that we are all depressed? It is stupid
