Soil Refuses To Play At Site Of Dimebag's Death

Band Photo: Damageplan (?)

SOiL has refused to play the October 26th date in Columbus, OH of the MUSHROOMHEAD/SOiL tour at the Al Rosa Villa club. The band cites the murder of the legendary Dimebag Darrel that occured at the club in December 2005. "We find it in bad taste that the club is even still standing" says guitarist Shaun Glass. "I would be sick to my stomach to just walk into that place." Bassist Tim King continues "Maybe other bands can play the club and not be bothered by what happened in there, but as close as we were with Dime and the DAMAGEPLAN camp, we would be unable to get on that stage without breaking down. We hope our fans will understand and respect our decision."

I respect that. If I was close really close to the legend and there was a show there it would be real awkward and uncomfortable. So I completely repect their opinion.

so does that mean that all the schools that kids were murdered in like columbine should be shut down and turned into memorials? How about the convienent stores that the clerks get murdered in,or maybe banks, wait I know lets shut down the street in my neighborhood that my friend Frankie was murdered on by some sick f***er that thought Frankie was insulting his girlfriend,Frankie Dewalt was an awesome guitar player too,get over Diamond Darrell's murder already,he is not the only musician to ever be murdered(and yeah it says Diamond cause long time Pantera friends will know that was what he originally called himself.)
I think it sucks he got murdered, but for f***s sake give it a rest already. **Let the hateful remarks to this post begin........now**

why even post something like that in post #7...simply to get a reaction i guess. sure other people have been murdered, but you just cant compare the columbine massacre and dime's murder or your friend's. sorry about your buddy dude. i guess he was kind of like dime, but not as well known. it is because of his reputation as a musician and a person that people feel the way they do about him. there are memorials to plenty of musicians that have been killed and maybe some people feel that the club should be a memorial for dime. so what? is it alright, or not alright for people to still be shocked by his death or still feel strongly about that event in one way or another. i guess i just dont understand the point of your post, except that your telling people that the way you feel about dime's murder is the way that everyone else should feel about it. i disagree.

post 7 , why get so offended by them making that club into a memorial for dime? after all he was one of the best guitarists of all time, i think they should totally do that, it would get lots of business.

Post #7 has a damn valid point. Has logic completely left the metal scene?. I swear to god it gets annoying. I don't see Vinnie Paul yelling "RIP DIME!" every 5 goddamn min. Everytime I look at metal websites you will have any number of people post "RIP DIME!" in topics that dont have a damn thing to do with dimebag. It's life.. sometimes it sucks, people do get murdered , sh** happens, GET ON WITH YOUR LIVES. Cliff Burtons dead did you all know that? now say "RIP CLIFF" in a topic about gwar, what that doesn't make sense?.. well no sh** . Anyone remember that "WHO" concert in the 70's several people were killed at?, I dont think that is a memorial is it?. Dimebag was a great musician and by all accounts one hell of a human being, but you have to look at it like this... life can be a b**** sometimes but you always have to keep going, don't you think dime would want that?.

First off, I must admit that I am a bit torn by this....There is NO disrespect towards DIME in this post..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...
Posts 7 and 10 have made some points worth discussing...There has been ALOT of rock star's deaths over the years that have been attributed to several different things....Randy Rhoads died in a bus....So did Cliff Burton... bands still use tour buses...????
Hendrix,Joplin and Morrison lost their lives to drugs...John Bonham, and Bon Scott died from drinking...but countless people still do drugs and drink
Stevie Ray Vaughn died in a helicopter crash....members of Lynyrd Skynyrd died in a plane crash....but bands and fans still fly everyday...
I respect Soils opinion..( cause everyone is entitled to their own...) And as a musician, I would feel quite uncomfortable playing on that stage too... and I didnt even know Dime....!!!!!
I am expecting to get called a douche,b****,punk and countless other clever names that some people on this site like to throw around..but thats OK...cause I like me and thats all that matters.!!!

I would feel weird if I where a guitarist playing on that stage. I can see how a band wouldn't want to play there. All the other crap about "Musicians die in planes, should we not fly anymore?" is just asinine. One thing has nothing to do with the other. Would you eat with a fork that was used to stab someone? That's just my two cents, which I know everyone just loves to hear. (With sarcastic tone for all the haters)

I think it would just be really uncomfortable to play on the same stage that your brother, idol and good friend was killed on. And if you want to throw the thing out there with the plane and stuff then think about it this way. It's not like they're never playing on any stage ever again, they just don't want to play on THAT stage. To relate it to the plane, there are different planes and I guarentee it's not the same one that they got killed on that your riding in. lol So it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense.

Soil have the right to refuse to play the club where Dimebag was murdered, Just like anyone has the right to type 'RIP DIME' .There is a point where people need to realize he's gone and it's disrespectful to b**** about people typing 'RIP DIME', I mean has anyone ever belted you in the f***in' face and shouted "REST IN PEACE DIME", does it hurt you physically when people type it? Soil in my opinion are only doing what they feel is best and I'd do the same. Oh yeah, and...... GETCHA' PULL! RIP DIMEBAG!!!!!!

I completely agree with the guys from Soil. These guys personally knew Dime and Vinnie as well as the rest of Damageplan. They were really close friends with them for many years. Its a respect thing for them. Like Shaun from SOiL said, I am suprised that place is still standing. I know people die everyday for various reasons. But this was not supposed to happen. Your not supposed to go to a metal show and think in fear that you will be shot. This is what makes this so damn tragic. As a musican and fan of SOiL, I respect SOiL and their decision to not play there. But it doesnt matter what I or anyone else says because we can never bring Dime back and we cannot change SOiL's mind. R.I.P. DIME.

I'm not saying they shouldn't or should not play on the stage he was killed on, thats not the point of what i was saying. I dont give a sh** if people showed dime respect in some way in posts that were about dime at the time of his death and hell even the months after his death. My point is life does go on, if a band doesnt wanna play on a stage where a musician was killed then fine, i understand that, but for people to constantly shout "rip dime" when vinnie paul himself is learning to move on is kinda ridiculous. If vinnie can move on start new projects and in an interview not bring dime up unless asked, dont you think people could move on to?. I have seen personally countless posts on countless sites that people only type two words RIP DIME, in topics that have NOTHING to do with dime, damage plan, pantera , rebel meets rebel. I've seen topics about exodus and people would just put down those two words "rip dime". It's kinda like 9/11.. It's been 5 f***ing years since 9/11 and on 9/11 every year since it happened.. history channel..does shows on osama and 9/11, and every newscast is from ground zero. Its like taking a vietnam vet and forcing him to go back to the jungles every year. LIFE GOES ON.

Madman, dude, who the F*** are you? Where you at 9/11? Where you at the show where Dime was killed? Every person deals with death in a different way. Just because "Vinny doesn't say RIP DIME" every day doesn't mean s***. I'm sure he thinks about it everyday. Why do you care so much about people saying RIP DIME? People do it to remember and pay tribute to him. So are people not allowed to bring up 9/11 ever again? You deal with death in your own way and let everyone else deal with it thier way. The media brings up terrible stories to get ratings, but what does a metal fan posting "RIP DIME" have to gain?

I respect their decision...fair enough...but I think a proper memorial for Dime is kicking the #### out of people the way he loved to his whole life...with great metal music. While it is a difficult place to go to...what better place to just let loose and have a great show. I can see their point...I can...but on the flip side I can see why as a tribute to Dime and his legacy it would be okay to play there...and in fact want to play there. RIP Dime.

Uh, wasn't the original issue the PERSONAL FEELINGS of the musicians?
Their feelings are what they are--and people who argue about whether someone else's feelings are right or wrong need to stop and think what they are really saying.

I'd have a hard time walking into that place and i didn't know Dime personally. What bugs me about some of these comments is that a few are sayin "what about Cliff burton and Randy Rhoads? What about Bon Scott and Hendrix?" Well the thing is...these were all accidental and I'm not trying to devalue them by any means all I'm saying is that Dime was murdered in cold blood and that carries a different kind of impact on people....I don't know about you guys but I was only 3 when Cliff died and wasn't even a fetus when Randy Rhoads died so you can see why Dime's death can have a different kind of impact on people....maybe it's a generational thing.

I completely respect Soil's decision to not play there. I know if I were a musician I wouldn't play there either. Some people just can't deal with the emotional pain of losing someone. It's really not that easy to get over, which I'm pretty sure all of us can admit to. So if one day they decide to play there and get over their sorrow, then they will be happy that they playing in memory of Dimebag.
