Blender.com recently spoke to AVENGED SEVENFOLD about their cover version of PANTERA's "Walk" and their participation in this year's Ozzfest. Watch the four-minute interview at Blender.com.
When asked about their version of "Walk", AVENGED SEVENFOLD singer M. Shadows said, "Kerrang! magazine came to us and they asked if we wanted to cover one of our favorite bands' classic songs. [And we went], 'Well, we know 'Walk'. Can we do that?' So we had Terry Date [PANTERA producer] record it for us and Vinnie Paul [PANTERA drummer] give us his blessings on it, so we went and did it. And from then on, we kind of like… you know, playing festivals in Europe with METALLICA and stuff, it kind of brings back… Dime, to us, was one of the greatest guitar players ever to live, and to us, it's like a tribute to him. It kind of lets his spirit live on at Ozzfest. PANTERA was, for a few years, tearing it up at Ozzfest, you know, and now they're not a band anymore, and I think… To us, it's a song we can play, we know we do it well, and we're just going out there and letting the spirit live on a little bit."

haha i know right... i for one would have killed to see them play this sh**. it sounds kinda muffled but otherwise i thought it kicked major ass. and i love how zacky is just chillin n drinkin a beer and throws it out to the crowd while synyster is doin his guitar solo. in my opinion, if i could have heard it clearer n sh** then it would have been aot better of a video but overall i think they did an awesome job and i respect them for doing a tribute to dime... its f***ing awesome

see, posts like #6 make it tough for people who truly believe that, again, avenged sevenfold can do whatever they want. however because they represent everything that pantera were not, it is tough to vue this as a tribute and as a fan of good heavy music. nothing personal against fans of avenged sevenfold b/c as musicians they have talent, but cover a guns n roses song or something for christ's sake.....( oh my god, i think i said they have talent )

i was at ozzfest and Avenged Sevenfold were terrible the most crowd reaction they got was frrom the " terrible down right disrespecting, pathetic" cover of walk. The solo sounded awful, the vocals were just bad. A7x is just a mockery to heavy metal i mena there sh** is on MTV. They look like MTV fags they just happen to be able to play instruments and generic guitar solos. Anybody that has herd the style of music they try to play knows thats tons of bands play it better and have way better solos. So much of there music sounds copied from other bands i swear i heard In Flames, Soilwork, Children of Bodom riffs or at times exact copies. There solos are nothing remember-able about them. Im sure Scandanavian bands are vomiting when they see and hear these guys. The scene is excellent in Sweden & Finland and A7x just copies everything they do. But since they have added girly vocals they have seem to become succesful. People love A7x but i let them listen to the music there copy they just compain they dont like it even tho the music is 10x better. They'll fuse about the vocals, compain the riffing is too heavy, cray that its too fast, and cant follow complex- longer guitar solos. Well i could go on but for now f*** U A7X YOU MTV fa**otS. QUIT DRESSSING LIKE 13 kinds GOING THRU PRUBERTY.

all i have to say is when you start your own f***ing band and becomee a better of a band than avenged sevenfold.. then you can talk sh**.. but thats never gonna happen. who are you f***ign people to judge them... they play music for themselves... music makes them happy... its not a f***ing popularity contest to see who the f*** looks better and who f***ing dresses better. atleast they put their heart and soul into their music. which is more than i can say for the rest of you a$$holes talking sh** about them.and if they wanna cover a song fro pantera then let them, its not like youre going to stop them just by saying its horrible and becuase they dont deserve it... f***, they got permission from their f***ing drummer, so im guesing he sees some talent in them. and so do i. if i were a musician, id wanna play a song from my hero. so all of you little sh**s who call them homo faggs can g straight to hell cuz nobody cares about what you f***ing think

Geez im sorry guys, I can only work with what people give me. Some shmuck takes his camera to ozzfest and records it, at least we get lucky enough to know about it. You can shell out 120$ for good tickets, get close to the stage and record it yourself, and then ill post it :)

If this is Avenged 7x's way of letting the rest of the planet know that they liked Pantera and respected Dime, then I guess its ok. But I'm getting tired of hearing about A7X doing a cover of "walk." Pick another freakin song to cover. Pantera had more songs than just "walk." I know because I looked at my albums and saw more than "walk" on the track list. Its cool to show respect, but c'mon, how many versions of A7X covering Pantera's "walk" are we going to be subjected too? I mean I'm getting dizzy. Every week a new crappy video comes out that we can barely freakin understand of A7X doing their best rendition of Pantera's "walk." I dont care anymore. It was cool. Thanks A7X. Go ask BLACK LABEL SOCIETY on how you should proceed before you butcher someone elses song and drive it into the ground like you have "walk." Come on. I've had enough of listening to A7X and their rants and raves about their band and their so-called tribute to Pantera. The vocals are half-assed, the guitars are pathetic, and this band should forget about ripping off great metal songs. If the crowd is not behind you at the concert, it says a lot about the quality of the music. They really are terrible.

Avenged Sevenfold is the greatest band in my oppinion and just because the low quality of the cover of "Walk" didn't sound all that great does not mean is was not a good cover... If the drummer actually gave them permission to play it that means they did it pretty well and fyi for all of you, to make a cover doesn't mean it has to be exactly on the dime the way you play it. I'm a guitarist myself and I know this sh**, I have been playing since I was 15 so I kinda have an advantage on some people on the subject on music and the solo was perfect. On another note, I think all of you are acting very immature saying that a7x is a crappy band that are emos (which they are not) and they don't use their talent... Heres a question to all of you that say that, can you personally do a better job of making a cover to "Walk" or how bout can you make better music YOURSELF??? and for all the fans (such as myself) why get p***ed off when someone rants and raves like little babies all because a band does something, its like acting like they have no life and all they do is surf the web and try to act tough by slandering a band that they do not personally listen to so all I do is laugh when they talk badly about the band I like. well cheers and Logic is the way to get through life and always smile and chill :)

Avenged Sevenfold knows how to play. BUT, they are a group of tools, just another bad OC band. Bands that wear make up and use bad stage names deserve to be destroyed. I play music, I know that they can play, but their image will fail them, and their trend will fall. Three years you won't remember this band. Playing Walk is cool. I commend any band that can pull it off. It's a tribute. It's an insult if they are up there saying 'f*** you' while playing it, but they are doing it in tribute. Doesn't change the fact that they are tools and probably suck at life.

im sorry, but they did look like clowns up their trying to cover pantera (and yes, i know it was meant to be a tribute). it might just be the way they present themselves, or the fact that they try so hard to be rock stars, but the fact is that avenged sevenfold represent everything in heavy music that pantera was NOT. and that is why this video was almost hard to watch.
