As I Lay Dying Named Metal Gods By MTV2 Viewers
MTV2 viewers declared everything that rocks their world -- from their
favorite artists, music, video games and gear -- with the first-ever "All That Rocks," a user-generated celebration dictated by the tastes of the MTV2 audience.
Viewers were able to take their 'Do It Yourself' mindset to
allthatrocks.mtv2.com: http://allthatrocks.mtv2.com/, where they
were able to upload "shout outs," videos of themselves endorsing and
supporting their favorite "All That Rocks" nominees, in order to
determine the audience's top choices. Featuring performances by some
of today's hottest artists Lil Wayne, Flyleaf, and 30 Seconds to Mars and hosted by Bam Margera, "All That Rocks"
airs this Sunday, July 30th at 9 PM ET/PT.

well for one; as i lay dying IS metal. seeing as they are swedecore which is a subgenre of metalcore wich is a subgenre of METAL
BUT lamb of god should have won because they were PURE metal (they are post-thrash) and have much less influences from other genres than as i lay dying.
so, for a band to be the proclaimed "metal god" they should be at least a pure metal band. im not saying as i lay dying isnt good, but lamb of god were much more qualified and in my opinion should have won.
still metal isnt about pop culture at all. and mtv being a pop culture media program can show nothing of what metal realy is and is about. stop complaining this means nothing.

I already said how As I Lay Dying is not metal. Its even clear in the name how they arent metal. About what you said, he knows what real metal is and what it stands for.
Secondly, you acuse him of being a skinny little pimple queer. I have never seen this guy in my life, and even I can tell you what he probably looks based on what he said. His hair is probably long and he wears tons of band T shirts, which is real metal atire for real metalheads.
Third of all, it is you who doesnt know what true metal is. If you did, you would probably be as pist off as I am about AILD winning "Ultimate Metal God" award.
I heard a PanterA fan above me make a really good point about how these days, nobody really cares about the quality of the music. All they care about is the image. What happened to the good days, back in the 80's. Back when you could throw a rock up in the air without hitting a good band. Back when it was all about the music, and not the image it portrayed. I meen, All the real metalheads who are reading this know, that to us, a band T shirt is part of who we are; it is almost as sacred to us as our own mothers, and we are really into the bands we have T shirts of. But today, these bad bands get famous because of how they look, and not for the music they play.
Face it. Real metal is alive by the TRUE underground, not by these fake metal MTV posers.

Ok, the T shirt comment was dumb, I admit that. But when I buy T shirts, its of bands that I am into. To me, it depicts what I'm all about. I'm not really into hardcore that much, but I love old Agnostic front, Black Flag, DRI, sh** like that, and you know what, your right, AILD isnt hardcore. L.O.G. IS trying to rip off Pantera. But then Pantera is just an imitation of Exhorder, so basically L.O.G. is just and imitation of Exhorder.

Screamo is just emo, except they think that maybe if they scream that people wont make fun of them. People like you fukers on here continue to label screamo as metal and hardcore. They are not, at all, either of these genres. And yes, last time I checked, like a certain Pantera fan said, metal gods were Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Possessed, Slayer, and Venom. The evil stuff, not none of these little "half-a$$ christian non-metal" screamo crap. Us real metalheads know what real metal is all about, MTV never has and never will.
And another reason why AILD sucks is because they tune down the bass, so you can barely hear it. Their guitars are just straight up repetitive and suck, the solos suck a$$. The vocals are just the same usual screaming crappy whining noise, where you can barely understand. The drums are just hitting the same snare and bass snares. The guitar solos are usually very short, about half the speed of the beat, and people think it is godly. If you want to hear a real guitar solo, listen to Possessed-Satan's Curse. Now THAT is a real metal solo. Not none of this 20 second slow crap.

Deathrider, you seem to be in denial about metalcore and you clearly have a very exclusive view of metal, which certainly some but not everyone else shares. You say AILD are not real hardcore, or real metal. They are by no means emo. Hardcore (short for hardcore punk) is commonly believed to be the marriage of punk and metal. So metalcore is the marriage of metal and hardcore. So metalcore is pretty close to "metal" even though it may not be "true metal". If you've heard any of the newer bands (Through the Eyes of the Dead, Neara, etc) who are more on the heavy side but still have metalcore influences, you'd find this "true metal" distinction harder to make. Pretty soon you'd be ruling out even more great bands just because they have a certain guitar tone or shouted lyrics (e.g. The Haunted w/ Peter Dolving).
That said, the whole concept of the contest seems flawed, and while AILD are a decent band, I would never award them such a title either.

MTV tries to take whatever has been hip for a while and make it their own--sepecially in other genres like hip hop. They never break any new ground, at least from what I see, and they create this circumstance where mega-popular artists get tons of play for whaterver new songs they put out, regardless of how bad the stuff is. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Viacom owns both VH1 and MTV, both of which have completely strayed from any type of real "music television." MTV 2 seems to have some okay stuff, especially Headbangers' Ball, but even they are now going the MTV route with all these garbage shows on all the time.
Anyhow, at the risk of making some people angry, I really think As I Lay Dying has a lot of talent, and my guess is that if they were from Dungsickle, Norway, and only sold about 3,000 copies of "Shadows Are Security," people would probably say they're the real deal. I'm not dissing the European scene at all (my favorite stuff is there) but I just think we tend to shun success by metal bands in general. I think most of that is the notion that it's "our" music and we don't want to be listening to the same thing as suburbanite Lindsy and Aaron--not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that, either.

Really, though, I think it's okay to mix in some popular stuff with the underground. I get sick of seeing AILD in magazines all the time talking about how cool Tim Lambesis' tattoos are and how they're all Chrisitans and whatever, but I can enjoy the song "94 Hours" and then wash it away with some Vreid or Cannibal Corpse. Anyhow, if Gorgoroth is your thing, check back in a couple days for the review of their latest work.
