Guns N Roses Decline Encore Due To Cowards?

GUNS N' ROSES's management has issued the following press release regarding the band's abbreviated performance in Newcastle, England last Wednesday (July 19):

GUNS N' ROSES want the people of Newcastle to know that the crowd at their sold-out show Wednesday night was terrific. The band played a sweaty two hour show on the hottest night in a lifetime bolstered by the audience's incredible support. Unfortunately, the band was not able to give the crowd the encore they deserved due to the behaviour of a couple of cowards in the audience.

GUNS N' ROSES keyboard player Dizzy Reed explained: "Newcastle was one of the best gigs of the entire tour. I had puddles of sweat underneath my keyboards and loved every second of it except when some idiots decided to throw things at the stage. When Axl got hit the first time, the audience pointed out who threw the object and security tossed him out, so we came back. Then Axl got hit in the mouth with another object, so thanks to the behavior of two morons who obviously don't know how to behave at a rock concert, the show ended with no encores. I've been in this band for sixteen years and stupid shit like throwing stuff at the stage is something we won't tolerate. We're not targets, we're musicians."

Guitarist Robin Finck stated, "We had a great time Wednesday night and Axl sang his ass off but you do not wait around to get hit in the mouth for a third time."

GUNS N' ROSES vocalist Axl Rose had this to say: "Getting hit wasn't a big deal. We stopped the song and gave a warning. We came back and started the song over and completed it. We then said goodnight. The house lights went down and I got hit a second time, in the mouth, by a solid object thrown by someone in the audience. After having warned the crowd that we would leave, and having played more than two hours, we left the stage and called it a night with the full support of everyone in the band, our guests and management. Izzy was the first to immediately support the decision verbally to me personally before I had physically left the stage area. Tommy and Frank came to my dressing room to say how much they appreciated the decision to not continue under those conditions, and express their support for not tolerating anyone throwing items at the stage with a negative intent. This has been GNR's policy since playing Donington in 1988. We thank everyone for coming, we hope everyone got home safely and we hope to play Newcastle again — hopefully without those looking for enjoyment at others expense. Cheers!"

If I ever saw GNR live, I'd probably throw sh**, too. They probably charged some ridiculous amount of money for tickets so Axl could be a crybaby. I hope he gets pelted with sh** at every show he ever does again.

What the Hell is the deal with people throwing stuff at musicians. I have never understood it, no matter how crappy they are, and it gets worse all the time. YOU DAMN KIDS! :) Just leave if you don't like it.

man, learn to roll with the punches... i mean, yea, its f***ing sh**ty when things get thrown at bands, thats just f***ing ignorant on those of the audiences part (who deserve to be thrown out, unless the band provokes it and wants them to [Every time i Die]) but thats something that just happens when you play sometimes. f*** the a$$holes who throw sh** anyway, just keep playing and having a good time with the rest of the audience!

I saw G&R at Glasgow. What a joke! Support band left the stage at 8.15, Axl decides to show up at 10.10. He then has more costume changes than Diana Ross, and tests the patience of everyone by encouraging several very long and very aimless guitar solos so that he can leave the stage for yet another change of clothes. Give it up man, and let people remember what a great band G&R used to be.

"Then Axl got hit in the mouth with another object" - a p***s... which chipped his dentures?

"but you do not wait around to get hit in the mouth for a third time." - or would he have?

Throwing sh** at a show isn't cool, but like MH644 said - if they provoke it then go ahead. In more ways than one I think Axl's provoked it (not directly or blatently, but simply by being a jackass). It seems like just his presence is enough to piss people off.

The people who were throwing stuff were just wankers who ruined it for all the other paying fans. I bet they put on an amazing show that everyone loved.

I was at that gig and it was amazing. These a$$holes who throw stuff at bands ruin it for us all. I do not blame Axl for leaving at all. I would have left the first time I got hit. Those d***s are like 17 years old, are as skinny as f*** and couldnt handle themselves in an actual fight. They just hide within the relative anonymity and throw bottles like the p***ys that they are. I also saw GNR at Donnington and the NEC, I had a fantastic night each time, if you cowardly geeks dont like the bands you watch then why are you paying to see them ?? Piss off and let the rest of us enjoy ourselves and to CrawfordTexasJingoJango they did not charge a ridiculous amount at all. They cost £30

If you want to throw sh*t, or you're not a fan of Axl Rose, don't even go to the show! Really, who's the f*ckin' loser when you show up to a concert just to intimidate the band... f*ckin' idiots, get a life!
