Strapping Young Lad drummer Gene Hoglan has commented oin his MySpace page on the remarks by frontman Devin Townsend about the death of the band:

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, I read the Finnish interview. True, Dev is burnt out, and of course he can change his mind quicker than bolt of lightning, but, just 2 days ago, he and I were talking about the next SYL record, what we're gonna do on it, and how absolutely mind-blowing it will be. We ARE taking some time off for Devin to have some much needed family time, but, we ARE hitting the road again in March 2007, headlining tours of both America and Europe, as well as Australia and the Far East. And I am shooting the straight shit with you, as I always do. We are too good to just dissolve, and those are Dev's words. I will never apologize for one of my bandmates speaking his mind, and if that was what was on Devin's mind at that exact time and date, then that's what was on his mind. Give the man some space. Don't worry kiddies, Strapping Young Lad is not disappearing anytime soon. We are a fuckin' fungus. No cream or lotion is gonna do us in that easily. Unless, of course, it's Vagisil.

See ya on the road,
Gene"

I can feel that. Like I said in another post... people have become too demanding and expecting of artists. These are real live people just like you and have problems just like you, they just happen to have a healthy outlet (music). But they have other responsibilities other than writing music for you. Imagine if your job said "ok, you can go home once in a while... but you have to live in the break room. And your hours will be extended to 14 a day, and you will be held to a precise standard based on last week's performance. No we're not increasing your pay.... baby on the way? Sorry... we need you." What would you do? You wouldn't quit and find another job?

It's the ADD generation.

Anyone born in the last 30 or so years is used to getting everything fast or faster....This includes myself.

Townsend is also a noted workaholic. (go to wikipedia and look at everything the man has been a part of these last 15 years). It's great for fans that he's such a f***ing machine, but in order for him to want to come back to SYL he needs to get away from it. We got a SYL record in '03, '05 and '06.

This doesnt even count his solo work and DTB efforts as well as producing other artists and owning a f***ing record label.

Hevy Devy needs a break?....

Hell give em three, I'll still buy that next record the day it comes out.

Wow you're right! He's done A LOT in his lifetime. I didn't even know he was did or is doing nearly this much. Soilwork is one of my favorite bands and it's cool that he produced and did some back-up vocals on one of there CD's. He truly is an extremely talented individual!!! I give him major props. \m/

I saw him signing autographs at Ozzfest after their set this past Saturday. He looked burned out. He simply signed the cds and said "Thanks for buying" and moved on to the next one. The rest of the band was much more interactive with the fans. Oh well, cant blame him. He has enough music for us to fall back on for years. He has definantly earned his time off and should take as much he needs.

BTW, SYL was hands down the best band there. It's a shame they played so early.I bearly reached the stage as they were finishing "You Suck" and moved on to "Love?".The following bands all sounded exactly alike absent BLS and Ozzy. It sucked.
