Tool to Support Metallica in Korea
TOOL have been confirmed as direct support for METALLICA on August 15 at the Jamsil Olympic Main Stadium in Seoul, Korea. This concert will mark TOOL's first-ever Korean appearance and METALLICA's first show in the country since April 1998. More support bands will be announced soon. Tickets are available at this location.
TOOL's fourth full-length album, "10,000 Days", debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and has sold one million copies in the seven weeks since its release.
METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich told England's BBC Radio 1 that the group's new album is likely to be released in the summer or early autumn of 2007. Ulrich explained, "I think we've realized that the creative process works a little slower for us than it used to, and we're OK with that. It's not a bad thing, unless, of course, you're waiting for a record." Ulrich added that the band now is far more relaxed than the turbulent state in which it recorded 2003's "St. Anger". The drummer said, "Everybody's getting along, having a great time...Back on ('St. Anger'), it was just a very different experience 'cause we had to kind of get it back together. Now everything's cool."

Who the hell else are they gonna get to support them? Arch Enemy? Lamb of God? Mastadon? Hell no! Those bands would put their little no-more-metal asses to shame. They have to get a kinda-but-not-really metal band to support them so they won't look like the trash they are. f*** 'Em All, Scared of the Lightning and Know Your Masters cause they bleed metal while Metallica bleeds the almighty dollar! No thanks!

I've seen Tool twice and Metallica on three times.....Metallica really get my blood going especially when they dig into their Lightning thru And Justice era material, which all told, is the backbone of their set...
Tool is a whole other beast....It's apples and oranges really.... but Seeing Tool live alters your brain, no bias, I wasn't the same person for about 5 days after my last Tool show....It was a bigger endorphin release than any sex, drug or alcohal experience in my life....
If I were Metallica I too would be affraid to follow Tool....Especially if I was Lars....Lars is the most so-so drummer in metal...He gets a great -sound- out of his drums but he's only decent...Danny Carrey is not human.

Yea-RM-
Ya know...its kind of a weird bill when you think about it. The last two times I've seen Tool they were adamant about not letting people mosh and the "Think for yourself' vibe. Metallica (no intended disrespect to fans) isn't that big on that. Its just a whole different thing...

Well, to each their own.
First time I heard Tool I didn't get it. Didn't move me at all. Second time I liked the tones, but still wasn't into it. Third time-religious experience. Same feeling I got when I heard 'OK Computer' by RadioHead.
'Hooker with a p***s' and 'Aenema' were the first two songs I felt and actually, the lyrics on 'Hooker' got me completely!
Give it another chance, SR, if you're open to that, I doubt you'll be sorry.

Hmmm, well, I might. On cd I've only listened to them sporatically, still never gotten it. But you Tool fans are a fanatical bunch so there must be something there. I may give them another shot out of respect for you folks who swear by them, but no promises. Not really into that style, like if I need to mellow out it's to Garbage or acoustic guitars, but I'll give anything a shot once... or twice if persuaded... still, I'll bash Metallica and download their latest show so I might be a hypocrite who just likes decent music...

I can't speak for all Tool fans but I think the reason some fans are so fanatical is that they were looking for something like Tool and utterly frustrated that it was not out there.
I remember in middle school wanting something heavy and intricate like Metallica and Pantera but wanting something with a singer with respectable vocal range that wasn't a f***ing hair/glam/or NWOBHM singer. I also liked certain aspects of progressive rock but I hated most prog rock vocalists and alot of the timely sonic overtones and lyrical themes they abused.
Lyrics of substance and strangeness were also desirable after I "discovered" Nirvana and AIC when I was 10-11 I started looking for weird, dark, obscure and difficult lyrical themes....Soundgarden was very nearly what I wanted but Tool was IT (especially Opiate and AEnima).
When I was 16 (which is when AEnima came out) the first thing I bought for my car, even before I bought a better sound system, was a Tool bumper sticker.
My rabid obsession for Tool had cooled with age but I'll buy albums and attend shows as long as they exist....I owe a large part of my love of music to Tool.

Did anyone else notice that Metallica rarely come to America? Like it's special if they come around. They're from America but yet they play more in other countries lately then their own. I don't get this. Whenever they're recording they go over seas. Are the fans in other countries more supportive of them or what the f*** is going on??? Oh and by the way, I would LOVE to go this show! This would be amazing and I'd like to know who they're going to get to open.

some reasons they go to different countries:
a: they like to tap into different sources of money
b: they want to travel and experience the world
c: they realize they're one of the most popular(for the most part) metal bands in the world, and think that other countries deserve to see them at a show.
There are a lot of countries in this small world of ours and it takes awhile to visit a variety of them. But I would like to think that when they come to America, they have more fun on home turf

Did anyone else flinch at this pairing?
Don't get me wrong I love both bands a great deal (well Metallica up until Load anyway) and they're both fantastic live......but it would be really hard to go from the live experience of Tool, which is truley otherworldly and Metallica which is unchained thrash fury mostly from their golden era.....
I think my head would just pop straight of my shoulders and become an orbiting satelite.
