New Slayer Album Title Officially Announced As "Christ Illusion"

Band Photo: Slayer (?)

"Christ Illusion" has been confirmed as the title of the new Slayer album, it has been announced (not "The Final Six," as previously reported), and the CD's release date is now confirmed for August 8, 2006.

"Christ Illusion" is Slayer's first new studio album since 2001, and the first recorded by the band's original line-up - Kerry King/guitars; Tom Araya/bass, vocals; Jeff Hanneman/guitars; Dave Lombardo/drums - since 1990's "Seasons In The Abyss." "Christ Illusion" was produced by Josh
Abraham and executive produced by Rick Rubin, and will be released on Slayer's long-time label, Rubin's American Recordings/Warner Bros. Records.

"Christ Illusion" deals with familiar Slayer themes - god, religion, hate, and war. Song titles are "Flesh Storm," "Catalyst," "Eyes of the Insane," "Jihad," "Skeleton Christ," "Consfearacy," "Black Serenade," " Catatonic," "Cult," and "Supremist." According to Araya, "No one is going to be disappointed, it's going to blow everybody away. It's fast, heavy, and maybe faster than anything we've done before."

"It's a good mix of fast, brutal music and slower moodier stuff, it's pretty intense," added King. "It sounds like a damn Slayer record."

A core player in Slayer's history has also rejoined the team for the "Christ Illusion" project. Larry Carroll, who did the cover artwork for "Reign in Blood," "South of Heaven," and "Seasons In the Abyss," has painted an original piece for the "Christ Illusion" cover. Working only from the song titles and early lyrics, Carroll has produced a classic Slayer masterpiece - a portrait of the Christ - whose forearms have been chopped off - standing in an ocean of blood surrounded by floating, decapitated heads (likely the same one previously referenced here and here). Carroll created the painting on a 4-by-4-foot slab of wood using a combination of mediums. King already has placed dibs on ownership of the original wooden canvas.

Slayer will headline this summer's six-week-plus "Unholy Alliance Tour: Preaching To The Perverted," which features Lamb of God, Children of Bodom, Mastodon, and Thine Eyes Bleed, and kicks off at the Tweeter Center in Camden, NJ next Thursday, June 15. Confirmed tour dates are as follows:

Christ Illusion, hey? hmmm...I don't get this one. leaves me with less leads than "The Final Six" did.

can't wait to hear the entire album, though - *original lineup* - !!!

lol, the masterpiece must look pretty cool in the flesh (wood?) if Kerry's already taken by it. artwork usually takes me ages to fully digest and figure out whether or not i like it.

- i suppose it's tradition now to include somewhere in these posts a -

I kinds of agree with the last comment - sounding like Deicide. God Hates Us All was general enough that it didn't raise any issues, IMO. But like all the others, I don't really care what it's called either - it's gonna rock.

To psythe:-Nah it does't suck as each time I type it I pay homage to my favourite Deicide song."Spirit of the elder Gods, are dead but must live on,still to life and yet they breathe,Xxxx Xxx Xxxxxxxx !!.I must admit I quite like some of the other titles "Consfearacy" some sort of swipe at Black-op/Area 51/Roswell/JFK Goverment cover-ups ?.Maybe I have telepathic powers "Eyes of the Insane" some sort of "Dead Skin Mask" ED GEIN/TED BUNDY/JEFFREY DAHMER psycho analysis ? I just cannot wait for some new SLAYER it's been to long I think everyone can agree on that ?

Our rock station here has been playing "666" a lot this week. I wonder if that is a sign of "selling out", or going main steam? (someone explain please). They seriously have not played a whole lot of Slayer since I have been a listener, and that EMO term is everywhere now here. AZ must be behind the times.

LOL Rae. Yah, they played 666 and another Slayer song last night too..... I think the new "style" is more main stream than their previous stuff....... Yep, I would say Slayer is trying to make some big bucks before they retire! Who wouldn't want to make money anyways? It always amazes me that fans get so upset when their favorite band finally makes it big......... selling out = making tons of cash! Who wouldn't want that????????????????

You know, I actually think King's hatred of Christ is kinda silly. This person he's never even met and in reality has done nothing to him seems to dominate his life, if not just his lyrics. Still, it could just be a button pushing thing, I dunno. Can't argue with the results though.

They can call the album whatever they like. If the tracks are gonna be like Cult, then be prepared for one hell of a record. Even better with the true Slayer line-up back at it.

I really hope they tour Australia with their new offering. It's been way to long since they graced our shores!!!!!
