System of a Down Guitarist Looks Towards Electronic Music

Launch Radio Networks reports: Will SYSTEM OF A DOWN guitarist Daron Malakian's next stop be electronic music? Malakian told Launch that the other writing he's been doing lately includes electronic material, though he said he hopes it will be as fresh to that genre as SYSTEM OF A DOWN's music is to rock. "I'm probably gonna do some electronic music," he said. "That's really where I'm going right now with some stuff. I don't know — I'm still kind of, like, developing it, I'm still kinda...It won't be typical, I guess (chuckles). It's not gonna be your, like, you know, normal techno beat. It'll be somewhat experimental."
Malakian would not predict when he might release any of his electronic music for public consumption.

...System of a Down does continue to release great music, in my opionion. But, it's true, Hypnotize could mark the very end of their carreer, like Master of Puppets for Mettalica, or The Rise of Brutality for Hatebreed...
and f*** techno... if it ain't the prodigy, it ain't music

Yup, they've changed quite a bit since the debut, but I still think they are writing creative and interesting tunes in todays quite bland music scene. Some good imaginative musical ideas are evident on both new albums although I still think Mesmerize is a bit hit 'n' miss. And good luck to him, electronic music certainly isn't my thing but he could breathe new life into the genre.

God forbid any band try to expand and grow...and challenge their listeners...that is just a terrible thing. And by the way...in who's world did "Master of Puppets" mark the end of Metallica's career? You should pick up a copy of "...And Justice For All." And how can "The Rise of Brutality" mark the end of Hatebreed...it's their most recent release...it's hard to have a retrospective analysis of a band based on their most recent release.

I was impressed with Hypnotize actually.
It's not Soad's best record obviously ( that honor is pretty much split between Steal! and the debut) but it's a big improvement from Mesmerize, clearly they saved their best songs for the second half of the set.
Hatebreed's Rise of Brutality is exactly the same as every other Hatebreed album. By the numbers heavy-modern-hardcore. That band will never change, thats their thing.
Black album and Load were the end of Metallica. Not Master of Puppets.
I personally would rather have a more metal SOAD but I like the fact that it's weird and unpredictable. I would hope for a more heavy cd next time they're in the studio, but I tend to at least like most of what they release.....

well put remembermetal, but i really didn't like hypnotize at all. just didn't work for me structurally. too much repatition and rather than variation on previous ideas they threw new ideas at you.
overall i'm tired of 'mainstream' music. if a mainstream band is really really good, i'll find out about it another way.
for anyone here i suggest you check out nevermore or into eternity. two bands that incorperate many styles of music. both are very talented, especially vocally.

I'm for all genres of music. (except most rap and all country) I think Daron experimenting in techno would be very interesting to hear. I mean, I know his voice and look fit the System standards, but maybe him doing this will create some whole new genre. I think System will still be going strong. I haven't read anything on them considering retirement, but you never know. If they do, I can surely say that the world will be minus one of the greatest bands that have ever owned the rock industry.

i love all of soad's releases for the mere fact that the music is not easily predictable. mesmerize was, to me, not bad. however, hypnotize was, frankly, not good. definitely the worst system album to date. i sincerely hope they go somewhere new and fresh (as is their want) without continuing along the lines of hypnotize.
FOR ALL THOSE WHO LOVE SYSTEM for the unpredictability of the music: check out a band called sikth. that's S - I - K - T - H. sikth. theyr just insane. that's all that can be said. and it fvcking rocks.

I think SOAD is going down hill anyway, with the release of hypnotize. I honestly dont care what direction they go in from here, after mezmerize's song question and the release of hypnotize I lost all faith in the band and any of there members so if Daron Malakian wants to go in a new direction so be it any direction is better than the one SOAD and its members are going down now.
