Metallica Begin Rehearsing For New Album

On November 29, 2005, METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich spoke to the Danish newspaper B.T. about his relationship with Danish Hollywood actress Connie Nielsen, in which he makes a brief reference to Metallica as well.
"Fuck, where do I begin? We have the language, the culture, the sarcasm and the irony in common. We have…yeah, the whole package, because she understands me," Ulrich told the newspaper in a phone interview while being driven from New York City to JFK Airport.
The couple had been in town to celebrate Connie's son Sebastian's 15th birthday and were now returning to the Ulrich's estate in the wealthy Tiburon district in the San Francisco Bay Area.
"Yes, it looks like Connie has moved in with me," the drummer confirmed. "We're taking everything day by day, but she's sitting next to me right now.
"Connie has been — how would you say it in Danish? — a pleasant addition to my life over the last couple of years. It's been nice to have had the Danish side of me become more prominent. To take short trips to Denmark and have a summer vacation with her family in Nordjylland."
Is it because you're afraid of losing touch with your roots that the "Danishness" has become more important to you?
"You know what? That might very well be the case. At any rate, it's something that you definitely want to hold on to and that becomes more and more important when you're a 41-year-old living abroad."
Upon Ulrich’s return to San Francisco later on November 29, METALLICA were due to start the very first rehearsals for the band’s ninth studio album.
"I wouldn't say that I have a plan or an idea of where we're headed, but to kickstart METALLICA once again makes me happy like a kid."
Lars and Connie will be celebrating Christmas in San Francisco together with Connie's son Sebastian and Lars' two sons, Layne, 4, and Myles, 7 (with estranged wife Skylar Ulrich). Joining them will be Lars' father Torben Ulrich, who will be accompanied by his wife Molly.
Do you want to get married again?
Lars: "Yeah, well, first I have to get divorced [laughs], so let's take everything nice and slow, OK? Very, very slow."
Your girlfriend has told one of the other [Danish] newspapers that she would love to have more children, so now you are forced to oblige…
"What? She has what? That pleases me, that pleases me," chuckles Lars.

indeed.....God....St. Anger registers like one of those regrets you wish you could go back and change....everytime I hear/read it I just want to peel that album out of my memory.....The Black album at least gave us a warning about load and reload.......I don't think they can sink any lower so I'll cross some fingers.

i don't look at st. anger as an album, but the soundtrack to skom. personally, i think it is musically their worst album to date, but i understand their motivation to do the album the way they did. it seems that they also realize that it wasn't their best. i'm sure the next album will be decent. great...i don't know. let's just hope that rob helps this next one out. one thing, though, i do think it's cool that st. anger wasn't manipulated to be full of top 40 singles. at least they had balls to record an album that wasn't a sure thing that would sell 10 million copies. they wrote an album that reflects well where they were at the time. that's what bands strive for their whole careers...creative freedom.

First of all, i hate the load album. It is the worst metallica cd in the world. I think that ST. Anger is a sweet f u c k i n CD. And that metallica is one of the best metal bands in the world. next to pantera, megadeth, slayer, exodus, gwar, in flames, etc, metallica is the best metal band in the world. i hate it when people say they hate metallica. don't forget, they started thrash/ speed metal and heavy metal.

bands that are starving artists put out the best stuff once they reach the pinnacle of there of there success there really not inspired anymore or challenge themselves to put out quality music.metallica already achieved this statis long ago so if your looking for a good quality old school style album like the good old days you'll be waiting for nothing stop wasting your time this will never happen.

32. writes:
You say you want heavy. they gave you heavy, you said you don't want ballads, they didn't give you ballads, you said you wanted it to be faster, they did just that. BUT you still bicker and curse one of the heaviest records I've heard in years. ST. Anger was great, and their new album will be great also. Geez, hypocrites.

I will say it was an improvement compared to Load and Reload maybe Robert will get them into
the right direction pending if he can take the drama between Lars and James As The World
Turns moments man I LMAO when I watched SKOM last week man what a joke this band
has become.

34. writes:
Didn't Lars also say that St. Anger was going to kick ass?
Anyways, I think the riffs on the songs are mostly good but the structures and the fact that it sometimes sounds like the song(any of them) is on repeat really messes the album up.
I haven't given up hope though, talent like that just doesn't disappear. Although, it was a huge loss when Cliff left them.... R.I.P Cliff, we miss you and your music man...

Some kind of Monster....I can tell you what kind of monster.....The green eyed monster...greed.
Commercial success renders even the best bands impotent....
Metallica --NEED-- to be p***ed off when they go into the studio. They need a better producer. They need to return to the complexity and hook James up with a Thesaurus because the last album had worse lyrics than Lindsay Lohan.
Metallica need to fix themselves.

umm Leveithan megadeths latest album did not fail it blew all of metallicas releses out of water for the past 6 or 7 years. metallica have been in never neverland sence the black album. it was like there retire album!!! so there all there did is back stab all of there fans!!!

43. writes:
"Metallica has been done since 88" "Metallica died in 89" what the fucck do you people know, you were probably listening to new kids on the block in 88 and 89. Sure Metallicas music isn't the same now as it once was but to say they are dead is bullsh**!!!! Until any of you fuccks release your own album I suggest you keep your fuccking mouths shut!!!!!!!!!!

Thats your problem that you liked "St. Anger" not ours.
Some of us are blessed with the gift of reason...Not that a mindless fan boy has heard of such a thing...I should expect not, you would defend Metallica if they put out hip-hop record. You can call that loyalty, but I call it bad taste.
And just to cap this off I've been a fan of Metallica since1985 b****, and I was 5 at the time.
Deal with it, p***y.

RememberMetal? - I think you need to cool down, take a deep breath, then either say something positive about the band or album, OR shut your mouth and listen to other comments before remarking something totally off the wall.
2nd, I think St. Anger was a decent, "Return" album. Remember other bands who were down for a few years, then made a comeback? Not always great albums, are they? Well, They will start up in the spring, kick some more *ss, then go on tour with this new album. I predict this album will be close to Ride the Lightning, or even "And Justice For ALL."

1. Bob Rock technically is a top notch producer, lets not forget the production on The Black Album, St. Anger was basiclly a theropy record. It was never intended to be pretty, and thats been said since day one by everyone in the band.
2.When I hear people say "well hopefully the next album wont have the tin snare"...like thats the snare they use all the time. PEOPLE wake the f*** up, they do something different on ONE album, when its not even a complete band and you judge them like its something their known for.
3. As I mentioned above when they recorded St. Anger , they were not a full band. They were on the vurge of breaking up. They still managed to put out a heavy as f*** record. St. Anger is heavy, aggressive, and at times fast as hell. ANYONE who does not see that is a complete idiot. You people pick the production apart more that the music, and if thats why you listen to music you need to re-think why you listen to music.
4. Yes St. Anger MUSICALLY was not the best Metallica has ever done. But I never hear people b**** about Megadeth's risk as much as I hear them b**** about everything metallica does. Metallica will NEVER be "MOP" again, they have moved past that. EVERY band from that era does not write that exact kind of music anymore, there is always change.
5. If you people who bash metallica for St. Anger solely because you bought it and found out it has sh** production you should be shot, because you know what the production would be in advance, they said from day one before that album hit , that it was produced as little as possible.
6. I myself am a huge fan of Metallica. I agree St. Anger was not their best, it sound wise was crap, but it had some good stuff on it. I dont care if people bash the sh** out of Metallica, so long as they have a valid reason and not just because of St. Anger.

WELL... INITIALLY I DID GET p***ed OFF WHEN I HEARD THE ALBUM AND THE REASON FOR THAT WAS BECAUSE 1. I WAITED SO f***EN LONG TO FINALLY HERE IT, 2. I HAD SUCH HIGH HOPES THAT I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE THE NEXT CHAPTER IN HEAVY METAL, 3. NO f***EN SOLOS JUST WASNT EXPECTED AT ALL, BUT WHAT I FAILED TO REALIZE WAS THAT THE BAND WAS NOT COMPLETE, THEY ALMOST BROKE UP, HETFIELDS REHAB... WHEN I FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS I WAS SURPRISED THAT THEY HAD EVEN RELEASED A f***EN ALBUM. WHAT I HAVE REALIZED NOW IS THAT ST. ANGER WAS JUST A THERAPY ALBUM THAT WASNT INTENDED TO HAVE GRATE PRODUCTION. I THINK ST. ANGER WAS JUST A WARM UP AND NOW THAT THEY HAVE A BAD AZZ BASS PLAYER I THINK THIS NEXT f***EN ALBUM IS FINALLY GOING TO BE THAT NEXT CHAPTER IN HEAVY METAL. I WILL NOT LOOSE HOPE, f*** ANYBODY THAT HAS. METALLICA WILL ROCK... FOREVER!!!

post 43/44 got the respsonse I gave him for 3 reasons,
1. Questioning the musical awareness of myself and everyone here.
2. The New Kids remark
3. And then suggesting that we "keep our f***ing mouths shut"....f*** him and f*** that, I'll say whatever the f*** I want when ever I feel like it.
I generally keep a cool head around here but I feel my response was justified in the face of someone who was being so condescending.
I too have high hopes for Metallica, I just don't know if there is any coming back from a string of progressively worse albums Load-St. Anger. I'm mostly let down by the quality of the lyrics/topics, the blah riffs and radio format song structures and the lack of solos....These are not things Metallica can't fix it's just a tall order...

FINALLY! some conformation to all the goddarned rumours and hearsay i've heard for so long that they were back into it and making another album. at least i know for sure now.
as to b****ing about one or any of their past records, or any upcoming ones, i don't see the point - it wont have any effect on the albums or the band anyway. i mean, if they went around checking out sites like this and taking advice from all the nutters that post there, they'd end up throwing in the towel due to the astounding conflict of interest inherent in modern-day metallica fans. some want another AJFA, others wont accept anything less than MOP, and still others (who probably only catched on recently) enjoy the feel of St. Anger and the production of the Black album.
...of course, there's always the argument that a lot of people WANT them to throw in the towel, give up and go home. I hope they don't. I've enjoyed every release so far, from Kill 'Em All straight through to St. Anger. and i will like the new album when it comes out (in half a freakin' decade).

i want to hear true 80's metallica, not this new bull s*** and we need a crazy solo kirk. a friend of mine told me kirk was forced to not have a solo on st. anger b/c soloing would "out date" their music. thats bs. i want metallica, not what some record producer wants.

63. writes:
I think this next album is gonna be really good, im a big metallica fan & I did not enjoy load or reload (especially ReLoad) but I think St Anger was a step into the right direction accept the fact they forgot to add thier solos in but at least they put the thrash back in which was really GOOOOOODD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! METALLICA OWNS!!!
