L7 Bassist Jennifer Finch Passes Aged 59 Shortly After Revealing Brain Cancer Diagnosis

On July 13th, alternative metal/grunge pioneers L7 announced that bass player Jennifer Finch would not be able to take part in their upcoming farewell tour, due to battling an aggressive form of brain cancer. Tragically, only five days after the announcement, Jennifer has passed away. She was fifty nine years old. A statement posted on her Instagram reads as follows:

"We are devastated to announce the death of our partner, sister, daughter, and friend Jennifer Precious Finch. Jennifer’s impact on the world of music was seismic; her impact on our lives, even moreso. We appreciate everyone’s interest and concern, thank you for all the kind messages. We appreciate some space to heal privately during this difficult time."

Finch joined L7 as the third member, following their formation by Donita Sparks and Suzi Gardner, having previously played with Courtney Love and Kat Bjelland in Sugar Babydoll. She was credited with helping the band enormously through networking and would co-write several of the bands best known songs including "Everglade" and "The Bomb." She departed after the fourth album, "Hungry For Stink," but took part in the band's 2014 reformation and recorded their 2019 album, "Scatter The Rats."

Outside of L7, she was a noted photographer, a passion she had pursued since adolescence, and appeared in several documentaries and movies, including the Jon Waters film, Serial Mom.
