Thy Art Is Murder Fire Frontman CJ McMahon - Release New Digital Album “Godlike” w/ Mystery Vocalist

Australian deathcore band Thy Art Is Murder have announced the departure of their vocalist, CJ McMahon, due to controversial comments he made on social media. In response to these comments and McMahon's threat to sabotage the band if they didn't support his opinions, the band has decided to release their new album "Godlike" without his vocals.

They've brought in a mystery vocalist who re-recorded the vocal tracks for the album, resulting in a digital release of the record. The decision to part ways with McMahon came after his comments were deemed transphobic and exacerbated an already strained situation.

McMahon has issued an apology for his comments, but it wasn't the first time he had expressed controversial views on social media. The band has distanced themselves from his comments, and now, with the album's release, they have made this announcement:

“We have some important news regarding ‘Godlike‘ that we want to share with you. Our new album ‘Godlike‘ is now available worldwide digitally with an unforeseen change — Chris McMahon is no longer a part of Thy Art Is Murder and does not feature on the record.

We understand that this may come as a surprise and we want to assure you that this decision was made to preserve the band’s integrity and direction.

What transpired over the past month was not the cause of this action, but just another symptom of the drawn out breakdown in his character and judgement. The straw that broke the camels back if you will long story short the fallout has been immense.

We were lobbed with threats to destroy Thy Art Is Murder from the inside if we did not capitulate to various ideologies that he holds. Everyone has their own right to free speech and to seek their truth; they are also free to receive the consequences that come with it.

We appreciate your support and respect for our privacy during this challenging time. As we move forward, we are excited to introduce you to a new vocalist, who finished re-recording vocals on the new album earlier this week, and will be joining us for the ‘Godlike‘ European tour with Whitechapel, Fit For An Autopsy and Spite, which kicks off in a few days.

Recently dismissed Thy Art Is Murder vocalist CJ McMahon in the meantime has released a new statement and video following his removal from the band and replacement by an undisclosed mystery vocalist on their just-released album "Godlike":

“I just woke up and saw the news. Yes this is how I found out. And yes it’s not the whole
story. I’ll be going live tomorrow at 5pm Sydney Australia time.

Burn everyone to death ??”

He followed up with a separate video stating:

“This is the 2nd video I made weeks ago the band never posted, the apology video you all saw I was forced to make. I actually told the band to fire me as I didn’t want to apologise as I didn’t have anything to apologise for, the band said that if I left the band would be done so for the band I made the apology video you saw but this is the video I meant. I was shut down about posting this”

McMahon has received support from Falling In Reverse vocalist Ronnie Radke and former Bad Wolves vocalist Tommy Vext. Vext replied directly to McMahon's latest video, stating:

“PROTECT ALL CHILDREN
How can anyone argue with this message ? Let us know if you start a crowd fund we support you bro”

Ash Avildsen, founder of Sumerian Records, also commented on McMahon's latest video statement, stating:

“as a father of a small child, I’d like you to know @sumerianrecords welcomes your bravery.”

McMahon shared an additional video on the situation telling:

“Hey guys I just want to make a short little video. I don’t really want to go on anything else. It’s more of a thank you for everyone for your support and your kind words. It means a lot. And also, the people that have come out of the woodwork that I don’t know, and they don’t really know me. The guys, Tommy Vext, Alex Terrible and Ronnie Radke for reaching out, it means a lot that you guys have reached out and give me a little advice moving forward.

Thank you for everything. As you can see, I’ve got my my two little ones here that have no idea what a rockstar is, they just know what their dad is, so I’m trying to look after my kids. Thank you so much for everyone, and the three guys I mentioned, thank you.”
