"Question!" To Be System of a Down's Next Single

Band Photo: System Of A Down (?)
"Question!" will be the second single from System of a Down's already Platinum record, "Mezmerize," which was released on May 17, and debuted at Number One on the Billboard/SoundScan charts. "Question!" will go to radio on July 19, and follows the Top 5 smash, "B.Y.O.B."
Lyrics and music for "Question!" were written by Serj Tankian with additional music by Daron Malakian, and is a haunting song that examines mortality. According to Tankian, "I wrote 'Question!' last year and I think it's one of the better songs that I've written for the band. The subject of death is universal - what is death? What happens afterwards? To me, it's very mystical."
In addition to writing more than half of the lyrics for both "Mezmerize" and its companion disc "Hypnotize" (out late this fall), Tankian played acoustic guitars, piano, and synths on the discs. Utilizing his state-of-the-art and well-appointed home studio, he also handled the string arrangements for the six songs that required them on the new release. "I enjoyed working out the patterns for violins, cellos, violas, and other instruments," Tankian says. "We mocked up the arrangements using samples, then got a real string section into the studio."
On "Question!" and "Mezmerize/Hypnotize" as a whole, the working relationship between Tankian and Malakian involved a great deal of reciprocity. According to Malakian, "I might have a great chorus but I don't think the verse is that great, so I'll ask Serj to make the verse better. He does the same thing with me on songs that he writes."
System of a Down shot the video for "Question!" earlier this month in Los Angeles with System's bassist Shavo Odadjian and Howard Greenhalgh (Sneaker Pimps, Muse, Sting) co-directing. The video was written by and based on a dream that Odadjian had, and is a surreal, high-concept fairytale.
"Mezmerize," Disc One of the Two-Disc set "Mezmerize/Hypnotize," has been overwhelming triumphant at radio, retail and press. Entertainment Weekly called the album "insanely good," Newsday wrote that it is "one of the most inventive, unique albums in years," and the Associated Press called it simply "a stunning work." Disc Two, "Hypnotize," will be released late this fall.
System of a Down will kick off their North American tour on August 4 in Los Angeles. Over the course of the tour, System of a Down will headline some forty arena dates with The Mars Volta as the tour's Special guests. With some new dates added, the confirmed itinerary is below.

can't you people acctually give examples why SOAD sucks or why they rule
SOAD does not suck and they hardly rule, here are the pros and cons of system of a down.
PROS
the first album
the second album
the third album
serj's voice it's original and i really doubt you will find another band who has a front man with a voice like that.
there music is original and they don't recreate albums which is more than can be said for alot of other metal bands.
there armanian heratige gives them a diferent background so there music has some middle eastern influence which i have never seen in eny other band.
they rarly copy other bands infact the only band i have ever notice them copy is metallica but then who has'nt.
thats about it for pros
CONS
the fourth album
daron singing on the fourth album(shut the fu ck up man i wanna hear serj not you)
the axis of justice
serj on the howard stern show
most of there political views
the fact that they know at this point in there career they can release eny pieace of sh it album and sell them out
Bounce (annoying a$$ song)
there berds (they anger me)
and thats about it
in my opinion SOAD is a pretty good band

stoner summed it up pretty well, Mezmerize would be a lot better if they let Serj do the vocals. Daron tends to ruin the songs that he sings in, and i cant stand his voice. Toxicity did so well with Serj up front, and he should remain there. Not saying that Mezmerize isnt good, but stating how it could have been better.

System Of A Down have followed a new path. Creating new ideas to use in their music and Mezmerize is a great example of that. Sure it may not sound as good as Toxicity but it doesn't mean they've lost their touch. Different sounds and ideas are needed to keep music fresh. SOAD are and always will be my favourite band. Unique and exciting!

How in the f*** are these reasonable arguements?Axis of Justice was a completely different project have little or nothing to do with SOAD.So how does it affect them?
I'm not sure what you mean by "serj on the howard stern show".And their "berds"?What a moron.Get back in your cage.
The reason why Daron sings alot now is because he pretty much writes all or most of the songs. The rest of the guys have little input the writing process.

Ahem....Okay. I'm going to disagree with all of you and say that Mezmerize is their best album yet, and one of the best albums of the year. Not only is it energetic and original, it's freakin' awesome. I think Daron sounds perfect. They created a whole new System of a Down. Something more melodic and daring. You can think what you want about this album. But I still say it's an amazing achievement in every way.

Ok first of all darrens voice is good and it makes a change and made me laff, second mezmerizd is good, different but good and 3rd wtf u on about angrystoner Bounce is one of the best songs theyve done, fuk knos y they decided 2 bring out question as a next single tho it was the worst tune on the new album

Mez is good....
Not Great (like "Toxicity")
Not Classic (like their debut or "Steal this Album")
Not Earth shattering...."good".
Since the PROS/CONS thing is all the rage...
PROS "Cigaro" was short form perfection....it's up there with Systems best, The main riff and the harmonies on "Question" were interesting and memorable. "BYOB" was the most bizarre single by far and "This Cocaine...." was more or less classic SOAD.
CONS The two "Hollywood" songs were pretty terrible (the lyrics especially). "Violent Pornography" was so-so, a very simple song, not much to remember about it. "Radio Video" had pretty harmonies but not much else....too pop-formaty.
Everything not mentioned "Sad Statue", "Revenga" etc were between the extremes and thus more or less in opinion limbo for me.
I agree that Daron should lay off of the lyrics (lyrics have almost always been Serj's task, and he's always done the songs justice with them)......Darons lyrics are hit and miss and at times just horrible (Lost in/Old School Hollywood) but the harmonies should stay! The vocal harmonies work 90% of the time, and have since they first started using them.....
I'm hoping that "Hypnotize" is more aggressive or at least more balanced than "Mezmerize". Crossing my fingers.

Post 14 serj went on the Howard stern show and said the american citizens who died in 9/11 diserved it which is pretty fu cked up and he had nothing to back it up.
They also say there not a political band then if there not then what the hell are they? Most of there lyrics have to do with the government in some form or way they had michel moore direct the "BOOM" music video and serj released a notebook full of political rant there just to political.
I don't give a flying fu ck what serj or eny other musician thinks about the state of the nation if they sing about politics and it sounds fine and SOAD is good it's just there doing all this b****ing and there doing nothing to really help.
They claim to hate the iraq war, but they sure are making a buck or two off ti.
