i never did like the idea of iron maiden only playing songs from their first 4 albums. their not even playing flight of icarus. i would prefer they played songs from their whole catalog, but i think it will still be really good.

I often see fans of the older metal acts trashing newer bands because they lakc any real open-mindedness and have no concept of which they speak. For example, a few here have alluded that Mudvayne and/or Rob Zombie is Nu-Metal trash. Mudvayne happens to have firstly, an amazing bassist who does something very few metal bands do, and that is bring a heavy but funk influenced sound to his playing. Listen to some of their great songs off L.D 50 to hear it clearly, Internal Primates (which sadly they aren't playing on ozzfest), Everything and Nothing and Nothing to Gein all have insanely interesting and technically impressive bass lines. Ryan Martinie is a bass god-to-be. Not to mention Matt the drummer has some extremely impressive skills, he hammers the skins better than most metal drummers these days....
As for Rob Zombie....I'm not a fan, but I respect what he does, he found his ncihe years ago and he plays up the more digital metal aspect of the scene.
This year is also sporting some amazing up and commers, Shadows Fall bogle the mind with their dual guitar insanity....they may sound similar from song to song, but you have to realize how technically brilliant they are. Also you have to realize they often play riffs in sycnh with each other, which is alot harder than it sounds when you are talking about their near speed metal speed of play. I'm not a huge fan of their lead singer, I rpeffered Phil Labonte (currently of All That Remains), but nonetheless they'll put on a great show. Killswitch Engage gets alot of rap for being borderline power ballad in alot of their songs....but it works. Their albums are fiercely entertaining and often get stuck in your skull. It works for them, they have an immpeccable live reputation. Mastodon is going to tear the roof off, they are just awesome. I'm more excited to see them than Sabbath or Maiden, which I'll enjoy.....but Mastodon is going to influence a whole new generation of metal, and their latest release Leviathan is bringing some intellectuallity back to metal.

As I Lay Dying, A Dozen Furries, Trivium should all be entertaining also.

We're also being treated to a power trio of the Swedish Metal Scene, In Flames, Arch Enemy and The Haunted.

all in all this Ozzfest is gonna kick some a$$. So stop p!ssin and moanin and get out there, open your ears, open your eyes, open your mind.....enjoy.....

saw the July 21st show in Darien Lakes, and thought the Hot Topic Stage was awesome. Best performances were Arch Enemy(I love Angela) and Mastodon. They destroyed all! I was terribly dissapointed with the main stage because i could hardly see a f***ing thing being so far back due to the f***ing seats in the way! What a terrible venue. It's ozzfest man, we should be able to get a hell of alot closer than that, no matter how much you paid. In Flames had a 20 minute set? WTF! The've been my favourite for a long while, and they have not been getting the respect they deserve. They've been producing real metal a long while before most of these bands even existed. Just wish they would play more of they're old stuff. I'm glad they played Pinball Map, but wish they'd play something from Whoracle or Black Ash.......alright that's enough.
