Candlemass bassist/main songwriter Leif Edling has posted a report from the band's recent appearance at the Bang Your Head festival in Balingen, Germany on their official website:
Came to Stuttgart on the Friday. Unfortunately without my bass. Still in Amsterdam.......Great!!! KLM promised to deliver it to the hotel later the same evening so there was nothing to do. We drove to the hotel in Schönstadt, bassless, but with sill, schnaps, meatballs and salmon in the luggage. Midsummer must be celebrated!!
Messiahs father and mother joined us (they live in Salzburg) and we had a really nice evening on the hotel patio with great food and funny hats! Later we got to the festival to see Motörhead and Saxon. Must admit we had a rendez-vous with the bar instead.
Due to some rather unfortunate events during the late night hours that involved a lost room key/a kicked in door/ a very pissed off hotel manager, I woke up with a carpenter in the room. Oh god!! After breakfast I paid a kings ransom for the fucking B-quality door and we took off to the festival only to find it in chaos. During the night a very bad rain storm hit Balingen and hundreds of tents got washed away. 40 people were reported injured. The stage and PA was totally drenched and they had to delay everything for hours on the Saturday. Result.......the bands had to cut their sets. The first guys we saw backstage were our friends in Nevermore who had to shorten their show with 20 minutes down to half an hour! Candlemass only had to take one song out so 50 minutes it was.
A pretty hangover band had some food and drinks. We talked to the people from Nuclear Blast and sobered up slowly. White Lion and Hanoi Rocks played their shows with little response from the crowd. We stood stand by at the end of Sebastian Bachs set, ready for a 15 minute changeover. That is too short! Without roadies it takes at least 20. You plug your amp in, test it quickly, then you run to the dressing room and you change you clothes in about 90 seconds – still there’s somebody that shouts “You’re supposed to be on stage now!!!!”.
Back to the stage soaked with sweat and you start to play stressed like a whole flock of beavers! But we did an ok gig anyway. Without crosses, without mental preparation.
Candlemass are continuing to tour in support of their brand-new self-titled album, which entered the Swedish national album chart at position No. 7 upon its release in early May. The CD also came in at No. 5 on the Sweden chart (featuring only Swedish artists) and at No. 1 on the Hard Rock/Metal chart.

its pretty impressive after 16 years these old farts can produce such impressive riffage. the "white" album is definitely a contender for year's best...
