Avenged Sevenfold Salute Dimebag, Shun Metalcore On New Album

MTV.com reports:
Before Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage and Hot Topic made metalcore a semi-mainstream commodity, Huntington Beach, California, quintet Avenged Sevenfold were combining caustic riffs and hardcore howls with the type of tuneful vocal passages that would
"I never got to meet Dimebag, but he and Slash are my two greatest guitar heroes." — Avenged Sevenfold's M. Shadowsbecome an identifying characteristic of the genre.
Avenged's 2001 debut, "Sounding the Seventh Trumpet," was a bracing, freewheeling introduction that paved the way for 2003's more focused and aggressive "Waking the Fallen." The album attracted extreme-metal and punk kids in equal measure and led to a major-label deal. As they entered the studio to work on their third LP, "City of Evil," Avenged Sevenfold seemed destined to ascend to the top of the metalcore heap. But now that's not going to happen.
"City of Evil" isn't metalcore, sharing little with extreme metal and nothing with hardcore. Instead, the band has written a jaw-droppingly schizophrenic, meandering and undeniably tuneful album that sounds like a collision of Metallica, Faith No More, CKY, Guns N' Roses and Queen.
"When we started working on this record, we said, 'You know what? None of our favorite bands are super extreme, they just write really good melodic songs that are still heavy,' " frontman M. Shadows said. "So we decided we didn't want to scream anymore. Instead, we wanted to make a rock record for the new ages — something with a lot of singing, textures and vocal harmonies, and we couldn't do any of that with all the screaming."

WOW THIS BAND HAS GOTTEN REALLY GAY NOW THAT THEY DON'T SCREAM. I MEAN WE ALL KNOW THAT IF THERE'S NO F***ING SCREAMING THEN ITS NOT REALLY METAL. METALLICA, BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN IS NOT REALLY METAL HOW CAN IT BE? THERE'S NO SCREAMING ONLY BANDS LIKE KILLSWITCH ENGAGE AND LAMB OF GOD ARE REAL METAL BECAUSE THEY F***ING SCREAM. SCREAMING IS THE THING THAT MAKES A BAND METAL, GUITARS AND DRUMS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.....NO SCREAMING=NOT METAL

that post was mocking all the p***ies that constantly compliain that A7X no longer screams. the fact is i think they've become 100X better without his screaming........AND KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, LAMB OF GOD AND ATREYU ALL F***ING SUCK!!!!!!! metalcore is pretty much gay, except A7X, but now they're not metalcore anymore, so i guess its safe to say all metalcore sucks!!!!!

Hey, BaTcOuNtRy, u brought up a good point mentioning the age of these guys. I mean listen to Synyster f***ing Gates!!!! He was damn good on STST and WTF, and EVEN BETTER on City of Evil, and he's still young as f***!!!! It's really scary when you think about how good he could become. Drummer "Rev" is pretty damn impressive too.

to the tard who described them as being a talented Good Charlotte.....go shove ur finger up ur a$$ for a while and then throw urself into the moving turbines of a 747......keep our gene pool clean, please.
now, to describe the record. this record is everyhting i thought ot would be....epic, unrestrained and over the top..... knocking WTF out of the park in all three of those categories. so how the f*** can it be a sellout? let me tell you something....my hat is off to avenged sevenfold for going against the grain. they started metalcore back when it was still underground, now that its become "all the rage", they've ditched the "core" and are now just flat out metal. the'll be the better bcause of it too. metalcore will move in to replace nu-metal for a few years and then die out, however because of this bold step i believe we will still be rocking out to A7X long after the names "Killswitch Engage" and "Atreyu" have been forgotten.

hell ,
i would love to hear any of you try and pull off an a7x song, scream ,double bass pedal ,bass guitar or guitar tab that avenged sevenfold plays because you probabally can't so don't talk, personally think they kick a$$ compared to every other band as new as they are and they dont copy but show and display their heavy influence of old school metal which i think is awsome what new band displays so much love to the forefathers of metal and rock

Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth was only about 17 when he wrote "The Twilight is my Robe".Not only that song, but a good portion of the Orchid album and Morningrise album.13 minute song after 13 minute song. Now that's brilliant.
Ax7 is super talented.I just cant get into them.I'll keep listening and maybe they'll grow on me.

WTF?!! they didnt sellout!!!.....here let me enlighten you.....
A7X were at one time metalcore, way back when that genre was still "underground". Yet today, metalcore's fanbase has grown huge, and the genre itself is becoming "mainstream". It could be said that the genre is selling out as a whole largely thanks to that bunch of wankers that like to call themselves Atreyu. A7X was one of the more talented metalcore bands, but as the genre went mainstream, they decided "the hell with the "core", we're goin METAL" and thus we have "City of Evil". Made not because they were selling out, but rather because they didn't want to go with the flow. They even said it themselves....the record label wanted them to do a metalcore album, because that is what is popular....but they did what they wanted to instead.
so you see it is quite the opposite my friend.
