What will undoubtedly be a "must see" tour this summer, SYSTEM OF A DOWN is confirmed to headline its first major U.S. tour in three years, it is announced today. While specific dates are being confirmed and will be announced shortly, the band will kick off a two-month trek in early August that will see them playing arenas in major and secondary markets throughout North America. It is also announced that The Mars Volta will join System of a Down as Special Guests on all of the tour dates; a third act, yet to be announced, will open the shows.
"We're very excited about getting out on the road this summer," said System's vocalist Serj Tankian. "It's been a long time since we've done a major American tour, and with The Mars Volta on the bill, I think we're giving our fans a terrific show."
System of a Down is currently on a 10-date "guerrilla club tour" playing small venues and debuting a couple of brand new songs from their forthcoming release, "Mezmerize," Disc One of the 2-disc set "Mezmerize/Hypnotize," due out May 17. Disc Two, "Hypnotize," is expected to be released late this fall. "B.Y.O.B.," the first single from the new album, is already a Top 10 track at Rock/Alternative radio, and the band will perform the song when they appear as musical guests on "Saturday Night Live" May 7.

MarsVolta sux!!!
who cares if they can 'play', so can i.
that singer sounds like Robert Plant with both testicles removed and a cat climbing his d***.
p***ys...why don't they scream or roar or sing at a reasonable pitch instead of damaging the ears of cats.
f*** em, if they didnt sound so much like a prog-rock version of my chemical romance or a more technical version of Coheed and Cambria i mite like em.
grr prolly wouldnt even like em then and i actually like a few prog rock bands.

The negative remarks posted above are very typical. There does not have to be screaming or roaring to make a band listenable. Open your minds and listen. The Mars Volta offer something unique, and if you truly don't enjoy their product then move on...but to label them for those who have not yet had the opportunity to experience them is not fair. These remarks remind me of some of the responses that Tool received after releasing "Lateralus." The "metal" folks seemed to be very turned off by the journey they were taking their fans on. I have been around the metal scene for years...and the one thing that always disturbs me is the fans reluctance to ever even give other genres a chance. To close your mind to new avenues is only detrimental to your own experience. I know that this post will recieve hateful remarks, but I just had to respond to some of the close-minded musings posted above. I respect everyone's opinion, but let people decide for themselves. I encourage you to break down your own mental barriers, and just once in a while take in something new.

i have their first album because i like proggressive rock And Punk and metal and i was lead to understand that there were elements of all of those genres....turned out to be true, but the singer was given a chance....i learned ages ago to allow for weird vocalists...soads serj and daron deicides glen benton.....they grew on me.....despite many spins mars volta not only didnt take, i got more annoyed with their singer....they are great in the technical sense....i fess up, they can out play other great muscians skill wise....their singer is horribly grating is all....thus my opinion of them sucking is a bit...harsh but so am i.

ha it really is typical of people to slag off things that they dont understand, to listen to and like the mars volta, you have to understand where they are coming from and think outside the lines of what you listen to everyday, thats what they are all about, offering a different choice, some people just dont understand a good thing when they see it.

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm no
the mars volta are ridiculously innovative and slay at their instruments. cedric baxler zavala can sing. f*** the pitch of his voice, the guy can just flat out sing. it doesnt hurt that lopez owns the f***ing guitar.
i just don't get why the f*** they would waste their time touring with system of a down.

Hmmmm...some childish negativity to my comments. Let's see, I've been called a pansy b**ch and I believe someone commented that I had no balls. Why so much anger over a post? I do not care whether some of the folks on here hate The Mars Volta, that is their opinion. I think that their music is worthwhile and unique. BLACKDOG, there are only two records out by The Mars Volta ("Deloused in the Comatorium" and "Frances the Mute"). I would suggest taking in "Deloused" first. "Frances" is closer to their live performance...but it is easier to take after having listened to the first record. If you like what you hear, you might also want to check out At the Drive-In (members of The Mars Volta came from this group). I grew up in El Paso, TX watching those guys progress and ultimately break up. The other band spawned from the At the Drive-In break up is Sparta...but I would stay clear of that. I guess that is all to tell. I hope you enjoy. And for those of you who always resort to anger in this forum...remember that hatred is a weakness.

the mars volta is a talented group. you are close-minded idiots to b**** about the singers range. this is something most of you are unfamiliar with, called talent. all of your stupid bands that are exactly the same with their long hair and stupid screams are what i consider a petty excuse for music. it makes me cringe to consider the fact that people actually enjoy such annoying, horrible bullsh**.
i for one am fed up with the ridiculous music of this time period. i believe that bands like the mars volta are needed to progress our music to more interesting levels. just because your silly ears cant accept real music for what it is and believe that all good music consists of yelling, overly-distorted guitars, and double-bass pedals does not mean that you have any right to lay shame upon a musical group that is actually doing something different and actually going deeper than murder, being p***ed about a girlfiend and never having a daddy.
and by the way, whats with all you heavy metalers talking about your goddamn cats?

becuz we luv our cats. neither me nor my cat has ever heard marz volta but after hearing about how bad they are i dont think i'll let her listen to them. but they can't be that bad if they're touring with system.
omg today i went to burbank to get the new system cd signed by them but my brother totally got lost and we were looking for the signing place for like an hour and when we got there all the wristbands to get in line were sold out. but i saw the people there and they were all really crazy looking guys with tattoos and peircings and braided goatees and black band shirts, and i was this little girl standing alone in line with a shirt with a monkey on it. so i'm so mad cuz i was soo close but i didn't get to see the band!

cats are usually for 'people' who cant talk to real people (if your a guy and own and think your stupid cat loves you you should be castrated) and i dont get what a cat has to say about the quality of any kind of music. the first time i heard the mars volta the blew me away and continue to do so. i know that they out rank PLENTY of "music" nowadays (i do not care what you say about cedric, lets see you try to top him) and the especially outplay SOAD. i would know because i used to be a hardcore fan but i had to learn through my own pain that they were and still arent all i thought they were.and didnt the mars volta also have a small little EP album before Deloused in the Comatorium? yeah now i remember, it was Tremulant ( ha ha just like cedrics voice) it only had three songs "cut that city" "concertina" and
"eunuch provocateur". hey all you fudge packers with the cats, if one day you wake up and decide to try and do something to better your life than buy kitty litter try deciphering TMV's lyrics. but no youll stay a lazy , cat-loving freak till death knocks on your door. any who remember that rebellion cant be bought at hot topic or any other store, "ferrum exacuet ferrum"(iron sharpens iron), and your cat must have no say in what type of music you listen to. come on guys they lick their own butt holes. WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

31. writes:
I'm a cat person, so f***ing what? My cat doesn't decide which music I listen to. I decide what the cat hears!
Cats can lick their own holes because they're doublejointed at the hips. If you were doublejointed at your hips(some people are) you could lick your own ass.

oh and JT who ever you are way to go man that was and adult way of dealing with all these childish narrow-minded individ.s as a guy ( cat lovers take note), that kind of intellectuality knocks out a lot of your competition and makes you incredibly hot. i have much to say but id rather go and THINK(thers a tip for a bunch of you on this Whatsitcalled? page thingy.) did you know that being on a computer lowers your IQ by 10 points whereas smoking a joint anly does so by 4 points. amazing aint it? youll probably never hear from me again so final words......... there is more to life than scooping your cats crap(seriously man there are so many worlds for you to discover), stop listening to stuff that degrades real music, flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity,
looking the same as a bunch of people who claim they're different doesnt make you different it makes you a conformist ( that Becka Chick with the monkey t-shirt will fess up to this she was talkin' 'bout that SOAD concert),
YOU ARE YOUR OWN FAULT,
no one cares 'bout your self esteem, especially not your cat,
do NOT fall into double-think ( if you dont know what that is read "1984" by George Orwell)
and read "the autobiography of Malcolm X" that book changed my life.
now excuse me but i have to play some pool now.
i shall die and no one will remember me.

Well I guess this works....Mars Volta is one of the most well known bands with almost legendary technical chops.....
Their singer is good but the pitch of his voice sometimes makes my cat run out of the room if one of their songs comes on....it's that high....i cant blame him....that guys voice bothers me too....and my cat can endure slayer and even seems to like Messhuggah, f***ed up little bastard...
whew....
between mars voltas singer and serj tankian and daron malakian.......i almost hope the opening band has some kind of tradional metal or hardcore band.....ill bet daron brings amen since thier on his vanity label. we'll see i guess.
