Petition for Metallica To Fire Bob Rock

Band Photo: Metallica (?)
An online petition has been started by Metallica fans encouraging Metallica to drop their producer Bob Rock, as many think he has badly influenced and tampered with Metallica's musical style. The petition presupposes that Metallica album quality has continually gone down since the release of 'Metallica' (The Black Album) in 1991 and hit an all-time low with the release of 2003's 'St. Anger'. The the online anti-Bob Rock petition has almost 16,000 signatures at the time of this posting.

This is just petty. Anybody who signs that petition knows nothing about music or how its made. If you want to listen to a band that releases the same album over and over again, go listen to WASP or something. But if you want to listen a real band with talent and the ability to expand and explore, listen to Metallica. If you don't like the new albums as much as the old ones... don't listen to them. Metallica will NOT fire Bob Rock, and they're only laughing at all the people who think they should. As am I....

Your saying that if metallica ''expanded and explored'' hip-hop, rap or evern pop they'd still have credibility for metallica?
Metallica was thrash metal, f***ing thrash metal band... and a damn good one at that. Then they cut their musical masterpieces to measly 4-5 minutes then go even farther and start to change their musical style so they could make money is low. Then they take out guitar solo's in St. Anger
you say "well don't listen to metallica mannnnnn" f*** you I can't not listen to metallica, they are my favourite band ever. Each time they release a new album I rush to the record store in hope that a new album will be as half as good as their first 4 albums. Year after year i'm dissapointed and left in disgust.
Eat sh** and die poser.

So your saying from Kill em All to And justice for All it all sounds the same......you need to go back and listen to your sh** before you come on here saying dumb sh** like that........and in case you don't know, this is what they came out with before they sold out.........just shut the f*** up and wait for the next bon jovi album to come out you fu***** homo

I have yet to encounter a band that really handels imens succes like metallica has, well.
Sometimes I guess you just run out of "fuel" for creativity and I can imagine that's hard to admit for a band that's called by alot of people "one of the greatest metal bands of all time"..... Give the guy's some slack and if they come up with another f***ed up album, we kill 'm.....(:P)

no, each of the first 4 albums, Kill-AJFA are very differnt from eachother....emphasis on "very". The band didnt begin reaching for a broad audience with songs like "enter sandman" and "the unforgiven" until Black album, and from there they never once looked back.....
The next few records were very "Metallica trying to be Alice In Chains" which of course they arent, they should have avoided the trappings to changing with the times and just changed with how they themselves were feeling......Because worst case scenarios like St. Anger can happen.....
As i'm sure some of u have read, I still giggle at St. Anger lyrics because...this is the same band that brought us "Master Of Puppets" "Fade to Black" "Sanitarium" "Hit The Lights"....I could fill a post up with song titles, why try?.....Anyway, just to go from such compelling songs to songs that sound like a half hearted Godsmack on a really bad day with 0 production value....and no solos....'cus their soooo "DONE WITH" arent they?????.....Im still trying to figure out Kirks purpose, I wonder if he ponders about that.....Ok, i need a beer cus im just getting "st anger 'round my neck"...

10. writes:
experimenting didnt hurt their sound until "Load", i enjoyed the black album, just not as much as the previous efforts....st anger should have been aborted. The band members clearly werent ready to come together and put out a record yet...Theres some sincere fury to St. Anger, it's just poorly articulated....The lyrics and production just suck dinosaur d***...No trademark Kirk solos also hurt that record....i liked that the double kick drums were back though
im curious where does everyone else stand?....
I think Metallica should get Devin Townsend
(Strapping Young Lad singer who also produced "As the Palaces Burn by LOG) to produce their next one, that would be sweet!!!!

13. writes:
I'd have to agree, Devin would be an absolutely stellar choice, but Metallica are VERY out of touch with the times (metal-wise)....they were more in touch with the metal of today "20 years ago"....than the rest of the world was ready to be.................until these last 10 years or so....the miserable album sales of St. Anger are 1 of many good examples...
Devin is so below their radar that its outrageous.......but it is a pretty good match, or at least it might have been once......he could possibly steer them the right way...but i doubt if anyone in that camp acknowledges Townsend...I would love to think so but it seems highly unlikely......

Hey you kids that cant get your point across without 500 swear words.. Guess what morons, metalunderground censors them. And besides, you're just immature little turds. You come back saying "F*** you", "eat s***". What is wrong with you? If you don't agree with me, then tell me. But laying down sentence after sentence of obscenities only makes you the idiot. Get a life. And I said if you want to hear a band that sounds the same, go listen to another band. Rest the post before posting back you lowlifes.

15. writes:
And if anybody knew anything about music, and 99% of the people who post here don't... even though they think they do, they would realize that all of the Metallica albums have been awesome. St. Anger is a great album. So its not what you expected... what did you expect? Black Album 2? Whatever. Metallica isn't stupid. You can't release an album that sounds the same as 10 years ago and expect it to do well today. People change, as do bands. Live with it. If you don't like their new stuff, find a band you like better and stop b****ing.

16. writes:
And the example of Metallica exploring rap, hip-hop, etc... Come on, give me a break. Can't you come up with a bit better of an example? How far has Metallica explored anyway? Lets see.... Load/Reload (which were both recorded in the same studio session) were leaning slightly to the blues side. But they're STILL Metallica. And then theres St. Anger, straight up and in your face. Wheres the extreme experimentation? I dont see it. And in my opinion, Metallica may have released Thrash albums, but they have NEVER been a thrash band. They were just young and full of energy.
17. writes:
black album 2? hahahahahahahahahaha good one. I know metallica aren't stupid Lars Ulrich has even stated on a few occasions that "they sold out" and they hardly ever play anything past the black album anyways at concerts. In my mind, I don't like the black album so I wouldn't want a 'black album' two but you implying that I would shows me you don't really know much about Metallica. They are one of the founding bands of thrash metal. Just go listen to Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning and Puppets and then try listening to load.
Find another band? I have Megadeth. I wasn't b****ing I was argueing your point it's not like I did "OMFG@@@!!11 M3T@||!C@ SuX0rz"
To bad you weren't around in the dave mustaine days kid.

I think that as the tragic Death of cliff burton occured, this was the downfall of metallica.
Yeah you can say theyre exploring, but at the end of the day all they have done is contradict everything they ever said they beleive in. Metallica, even to this day, are my all time favourite band but after seeing SKOM i see that the tensions in the band are too much for anyone to cope with. If i am totally honest with myself and with everyone else i think that we will not see another 2 albums out of metallica. I hate this fact and it sickens me, but its the reality that metallica fans everywhere are having to face up to

The Black album was good, not as fast as the previous. People knocked Load and ReLoad, but they were both better than St. Anger which was supposed to be a return to thier fast and heavy sound. It was faster, but it sucks. Bob Rock is a producer, he is supposed to give his ideas and critique what the band puts out. If Metallica doesn't like where their sound was going they had the power to change that. People are quick to point the finger at Bob, but the blame is to both. If you want thrash, listen to Shadows Fall, Strapping Young Lad, or even Megadeth, don't petition a band you don't like anymore

Metallica won't fire Bob Rock. They probabley have more money than any other metal band ever. People knocked Load and ReLoad, and said St. Anger would be fast and heavy like the old music. St. Anger is the worst disc they've ever put out. You can't point the finger at Bob Rock and not the band, if they didn't like where they were going musically, they could have changed it, Metallica is just as much to blame.
If you want thrash, listen to Shadows Fall, Strapping Young Lad, or Megadeth.

I love every single Metallica album and song ever released. Every time they release a new album I embrace it to the fullest. It's weird but every album perfectly described my life and how I was feeling when it came out. No, Metallica isn't the same, but if you're in the mood for heavy listen to the first 3 albums, you want mainstream listen to black, you want more alternative sh** listen to load/reload, if you want the future and the past listen to st. anger. What other band can provide that? NONE. Long live metal.

maybe jesus will come for the second time and bring cliff burton back to life, and metallica will realize the error in their ways. Lars will start smackin down crazy beats again, kirk will return to playing his insane solos, cliff will lay down the 88s, and james will tear up the mic with the voice that enchants the earlier albums

37. writes:
why give megadeth any credit? half his work with megadeth is exactly similar or close to a lot of early metallica . . . and i know of the argument that Mustaine wrote it but still what kind of creativity do you have if you just reissue what you wrote under a different band name cause you're bitter?
Besides Dave Mustaine is a douche . . . he's still the only motherf***er pushing this rivalry thing

Just SHUT THE HELL UP. All of you. I informed Metal Underground about this news, thats why it's on here; But I never would have had I known there would be so many Goddamn pitty arguments and sh**. Too many of you claim to know everything about Metal or you scold others for not knowing as much as you. Another thing that p***ed me off. This article is about BOB ROCK AND METALLICA, yet the inevitable has happened as with all you f***ing people on this website, you have to bring up DAVE MUSTAINE in your ongoing "Metallica is experimenting" argument or your "Metallica sold out" argument. Let this sh** go. Jesus Christ, I'm just a 16 year old kid. I don't claim to know everything about metal, I know I wasn't "there back in the day" - but I don't care. Stop arguing and just read the goddamn article. Then when your done, sign the petition or don't or post your opinions. But stop arguing about whether Megadeth is better than Metallica or if Metallica has sold out. SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT THE HELL UP.

METALLICA DOESN'T CARE WHAT ANYONE THINKS. As long as people buy their sh**t, they'll be happy, they are right, and the fans are wrong ALWAYS. Bob rock will die WITH Metallica. As far as their music being reuined by bob rock...I have to say that isnt true, because they are NOT his PUPPETS, and he is not their MASTER. They do disagree with many of his ideas, and in the end they all enjoy how it sounds, so its not Bob's fault their music may suck now. Watch POS movie, in my opinion, the worst thing they've ever done...they do NOT take his sh**, and he is NOT in charge. I guarantee my name will not be on that petition, because its a waste of time. byebye

I may not like all the albums released under Bob Rock but in the end the band should be left with there choices with what music they make, NOT the producer and NOT some whinny p***ies on a message board, as long as Metallica decides for Metallica its none of our f***ing business who they're producer is.

When you get right down to it.Who cares at the end of the day their still METTALICA and BOB ROCK will still be BOB ROCK and we'll still be who we are AKA the guy's that can't live extravagantly because we don't have anywheir near as much money as either of them so f*** IT.I can't get too caught up in this argument and by right's nobody else should it's pointless.Life is short and my day's aint long enough to be whinning over the current state of someone who does not pay my bill's.
