Powderburn "Best Metal Band" In Austin, TX
The EDGE Magazine, the leading rock magazine in central Texas, recently released the results of their 2004 Reader’s Poll and heavy metal outfit POWDERBURN was recognized as Austin’s "Best Group", along with "Best Metal Band" in 2004. Artist are selected entirely by fans who submit ballots for artist in a variety of categories. Renowned for its "Live Music Capitol of the World" moniker, Austin has over 3,000 working bands. "There's some really amazing bands here in Austin, and to take Best Group out of all the genres is one of the greatest achievements I've ever been a part of", quips drummer Pat Swift.
In addition to these awards, the band also reaped individual honors, with Ken Lockman and Greg Enkler receiving "Best Male Singer" and "Best Bassist", respectively. "It’s a great thing to know that our fans and friends support us the way they do," notes Greg Enkler. For the 2nd year in a row, The EDGE Magazine’s readership have polled this Jagermeister-sponsored band as the premier metal artist in Austin. Adds vocalist/guitarist Ken Lockman, "it's an awesome feeling to know that people are enjoying what we're doing, it makes it worth all the hard work and struggles."
POWDERBURN will be putting its award-winning show on display next month when it headlines the metal showcase of the Heart of Texas Quadruple Bypass Music Festival during SXSW week. The band also plans to hit the studio and cut a new demo this spring, alongside producer Scott Sargeant, former longtime guitarist for San Francisco-based SKINLAB. Although the studio material is earmarked for industry reps, fans can catch a glimpse of their new songs in upcoming shows.

I agree. I know one or two of those guys and have a lot of respect for them. Congratulations!
In all reality, there hasn't been a lot of real metal competition in a while in Austin.
There are good groups, just not many of them.
Also, naturally, more sponsors and more money equals more publicity and attention.
Don't get me wrong, though. There's a big metal scene that's about to explode in Austin.
If we support each other instead of trashing each other, then we'll have a true metal scene to
be proud of.
