Rob Zombie's New Movie "31" Gets NC-17 Rating

Seems like we've been posting news about Rob Zombie's new killer clown movie "31" forever, but its finally wrapped up.
Unfortunately, it won't be coming to theaters anytime soon, at least not in its current version, as the film received an NC-17 rating. Zombie comments:
"Well, after two tries through the MPAA our rating on '31' remains NC-17. Maybe three is the charm to get an R rating. Why R you ask? Well, because your local theater will not show an NC-17. Even though you are a fucking adult... things much be censored for your enjoyment."
Personally I think he's missing the silver lining here. He could make a big campaign about how his movie is "too brutal for theaters" and get all his fans to download it VOD and probably make more money, but I doubt that will happen, as everybody is stuck in the past on theatrical releases still.

The MPAA and theater system could definitely use an overhaul, but I wouldn't go so far as to call this censorship. No one is preventing him from releasing the movie in its original format, the NC-17 rating just means most mainstream theaters will choose not to play it. There's still indie theaters who will show it and of course he's free to release an unrated DVD or NC-17 movie through VOD all he wants.

I think it's unfair for Rob to be treated like this. The Green Inferno was brutal. Where was the NC-17 for scenes of eyeball eating or tongues being cut out?
I think 31 should definitely be a great film, that's my opinion as a fan.
