Philadelphia-based black metal band Malphas is prepping a new EP titled "The Conjuring" for release, and today we're stoked to bring you some symphonic darkness ahead of the release date.
Check out our exclusive premiere of the new song "Shards Of Truth" below, and be sure to let us know what you think in the comments section.
Founded in 2012 by Paul DeSanctis and Eric Dunleavy, accompanied by Dave Guglielmi and Damian DiFrancesco, Malphas conjures malevolent sounds straight from the Scandinavian scene.
The four piece comes together with a healthy blend of melodic death, black, and power metal, with additional occasional touches of prog and jazz, Malphas is a well-rounded and innovative display of modern heavy metal.
The band's lyrics are written as a concept story revolving around Malphas, the 39th goetic spirit in demonology. Malphas serves as the grand president and general of hell; commanding forty legions of demons and appearing before conjurers in the form of a crow.
Cover artwork for "The Conjuring" was designed by Alec Pezzano. "Malphas approached me with some existing artwork and just asked for my professional opinion," Pezzano remembers. "After explaining to them what I thought and what they should be looking for, they asked if I'd do the artwork for them. The only initial info they gave me was they wanted a crow, a Satanic sort of temple setting, and the color blue. I took the concept and ran with it, putting my own spin on the elements they gave me. I took it a step further after hearing the title and thought of the crow as an omen or spirit guide, a bringer of darkness—hence the glowing talisman."
The EP's track listing is as follows:
1. The Conjuring
2. Shards Of Truth
3. Legions
4. Visions Of The Burning Darkness
5. Heaven's Fall
