Inner Sanctum Comments On Facebook Banning

After posting a tour flyer online containing sexual content (see it below), India's melodic death metal outfit Inner Sanctum was briefly banned from posting on Facebook (a situation we at Metalunderground understand, as any album cover we post that contains nipples or ass cracks gets deleted). Inner Sanctum had this to say:

"Yesterday (10th Oct 2014) Inner Sanctum was banned from Facebook for posting content that was deemed offensive. Someone had flagged our poster because they found the nature of the post to be too graphic.

"There are various ways you could look at this….weigh out the different opinions, figure out what crosses certain lines, artistic liberties, and the relevance of shock value as a marketing gimmick, but none of these address the actual issue at hand…which is…people are in denial when it comes to SEX. SEX SEX SEX, the more you say it the more it offends people.

"Living in India this issue is magnified to a larger degree since most of us are equivalent to Jesus, because we were all born of immaculate conception right…because Indians don’t have sex. I am not a product of my dad’s semen or my mother’s incubating womb, some stork from the sky just dropped me off! It was co incidence and conditioning that made me end up with their features, and biological genes and mannerisms…no sex involved here perverts.

"Now that we have cleared the table of unruly, unnatural and unholy things like sex, lets move on to the poster issue. The image is a graphic representation of two muscular blokes going at it doggy style. The header says 'INNER SANCTUM invites you to TAKE IT LIKE A MAN'…implying metal gigs tend to be aggressive and intense, and lets face it 90% of the crowd are dudes. There is some social commentary in there….it addresses the fact that people are in denial not just about sex, but gay sex is considered even more ‘unnatural’, it addresses homophobia where many straight guys think that they would be hit on by a guy (evidently portraying a gay relationship as something purely lust driven and physical, discounting and ignoring any emotional or soulful angle that could exist in such a relationship) and it addresses hypocrisy because most people (esp men in this case) love to conceal their sexual desires for some socio cultural reason, and then go about pretending to be a holier than thou figure purer than any virgin anywhere.

"Now we as a band, don’t give a fuck about you, your beliefs, your religion, your sexual orientation, your caste, your background blah blah. Because its something personal to you and not for us to meddle with…leaving aside the fact that we all (in the band) share a very homo-erotic sense of humour primarily because it makes people uncomfortable. We are aware as individuals that most people get freaked out by our band's 'gayness' and we continue to exploit that because for us its unnatural not to share such a relationship with your guy friends. Are we gay…no, just because we like to spank each other’s asses once in a while, and rub one another’s nipples and dirty talk to each other does not mean we are gay. It means that us as individuals, are aware that a certain sexual orientations exist and and we find it funny that others get freaked out when we display any kind of embracement towards one another and label us with the ‘gay’ tag.

"So if you feel that the image was anti-gay, pro-gay or just offended because it had naked people on it, our only observation of you cant be anything more than that of a person who is against human nature. SEX EXISTS, in both homo and heterosexual formats and both appear in nature. We make fun of it because its taken way too seriously by some people.

"It’s the same reason why people still giggle when we crack jokes about shit, …shitting is natural, I dump turds by half a dozen every morning and so do you, yet we laugh at any of its references because individually we are aware of societies being childish and getting grossed out by something natural that happens to us on a daily basis. That’s how humour works…its about pointing out irregularities in our thought patterns that get justified for socio cultural reasons.

"Point of the matter being, this is the first time we have faced any kind of ban / barring incident…and frankly, WE ARE FUCKING EXCITED! Thank you butthurt people on the internet, your sensitive souls make us feel more like a metal band! You guys have surpassed even the most loyal of supporters in making us feel like complete badasses with an utter disregard for society and its ways. THANK YOU, your hypocrisy completes us, as it’s a very reflection of who you are as a person. Fucking cockless pricks….NOW TAKE IT LIKE A MAN!
