Machine Head Cancels North American Tour Dates With Epica

Machine Head has issued the following announcement about canceling upcoming tour dates that were to feature Epica and Children of Bodom:
"It is with great disappointment that Machine Head must announce the postponement of our North American tour this fall.
"Our new album 'Bloodstone & Diamonds' has taken longer to complete than expected and we had to make the difficult choice to either delay the album, let it go out as incomplete, or cancel the tour in order to properly finish and promote the album in the caliber it needs to be done. We decided postponing the tour was the best decision for the record.
"We feel this record is a milestone, we feel we have something truly special here, but getting there has been a challenge. Our vocalist / guitarist Robb Flynn just returned from a press tour where he was playing rough mixes and incomplete versions of songs for the press just to try and keep everything on time for our November release date."
Refunds will be available for tickets at point of purchase. Look out for rescheduled American tour dates for the beginning of the year. All scheduled European tour dates will remain as scheduled.
Machine Head will release 8th album “Bloodstone & Diamonds” (and first for Nuclear Blast Entertainment) on November 10th.
Epica also comments: "We are really disappointed to inform you that our upcoming North American Tour in support of Machine Head has been cancelled. We were very much looking forward to play North America and to meet our US and Canadian fans again. Needless to say, this is a real blow for us. We hope to be able to return to North America as soon as possible!"

Yeah man, I feel ya. I unfortunately felt a little obligated to go to this. No disrespect to bodom or epica, but they're not for me and it felt kinda like an odd tour. Im never let down by machinehead live. I was actually more looking forward to seeing battlecross again. Goddamn. Hopefully they'll come come back on the "rescheduled" tour. If not, they need to do some sh** on their own or at least try to jump on another tour. Perhaps black dahlia murder/suicide silence or even the upcoming Whitechapel tour. Something or another. Im sure they're bummed and were depending on this tour. Rightfully so, they're catching fire and that exposure could push them to that next tier.

I think there's more behind this... my theory is....I think some of the venues were too large, and the pre sale tickets were low. Is a large venue say one that holds 2000 or 3000 really going to be sold out on a Tuesday or Thursday night, when most people have to get up for work the next day? yeah I've done it all my life, but why not book those big venues on a Friday or Saturday.. and... if the album isn't ready today.. will this masterpiece be ready in another month to tour Europe?

This was supposed to be a surprise birthday concert for my girl. I was going to get the tickets tomorrow and last night I went to the website for the Electric Factory in Philadelphia to double-check the date.
Then I saw "postponed."
Kinda put a damper on my whole night. She loves CoB and really really likes MH. I love MH and I think CoB are pretty swell. It would've been a good night for all, especially when we pulled up and she finally saw who we were going to see after a 1 1/2 hour drive.
Now they want to have the tour next year. They could've held back the album a bit to do the tour and it still would've sold just fine. Not everyone has days off or vacation days to spare.

Fishy business...or perhaps more accurately, fishy bad business
Records can be postponed indefinitely with little real negative impact...sometimes actually helps build interest and anticipation
a tour with supporting acts, venues, and ticket buyers already committed? Not so much

While this sucks, I'm somewhat relieved as I wasn't going to be able to make the Oct. 6th date in Dallas.
Hopefully, the rescheduled dates won't put too many people out. I doubt they'll be able to work out the logistics to get the same bands as support, so I'll be looking to see who will be joining them when they announce the new dates.
