Middle School Metal Band Unlocking The Truth Signs With Sony

Unlocking the Truth - a band composed of 12 and 13 year olds - posted a video on YouTube (available below) of the band jamming in Times Square that caught the attention of Sony and netted an unexpected record deal.

NY Daily News reports the band will be releasing at least two albums via Sony. An excerpt from the article follows:

Sony has committed to producing at least two albums with Unlocking the Truth — and it has an option for four more records.

Guitarist Malcolm Brickhouse, 13, bassist Alec Atkins, 13, and drummer Jarad Dawkins, 12 — who have played at gigs all over the country, including appearances at Coachella festival in California and opening for Guns N’ Roses — are promised an advance of $60,000 for their first recording. The second record could net them an advance as much as $350,000.

If Sony sticks with them for all six albums, the kids could be raking in as much as $1.7 million.
