Lars Ulrich Wouldn't Change A Thing With 'St. Anger'

The Boston Globe caught up with Lars Ulrich for a Q&A session and asked the drummer about the polarized reaction to their latest effort, 'St. Anger'. "It's not the most easily digested record," Ulrich admitted. "In a time where radio seems to be going conversative again in the last couple of years -- and the Nickelbacks of the world are dominating it -- then when a band like us comes out and does something that's harsh and aggressive, it may be difficult for some people to initially accept it. But I'm glad we did it and I wouldn't change one thing about it... We needed to prove to ourselves that we still had that spunk in us and that we could make that kind of record."

OMG! You don't see that after 20 years of making music, that the music develops with
them! you don't understand how an artist grows and finds new sounds and chords and
riffs!!! It's all just growing. You don't have to grow with them!! Just quit listening, and you
don't have to rag about it either!! Just leave the ones who still listen ALONE!!
Brad, why on earth are you typing out the lyrics to Tool's "The Patient"?

St. Anger was not growth. It could easily be mistaken as something made by an amatuer
band of 13 year olds that couldnt afford a real snare drum so they used a coffee can instead. Not once throughout that cd did I say "Oh, that riff kicks ass".It was an obvious act of conformity, not artistic growth.I can pop in Master of Puppets and hear good riffs left and right.Thats because they still felt they needed to prove something. Now, they just want easy pay.

I do agree with that. But what I don't get is that they all say" now everyone had input in this album"then WHERE THE FUCCK IS A DECENT SOLO????what the hell is kirk man a p***y? I don't get it doesn't he want to play lead guitar anymore or something???
and by the way what's so stupid about the dutch??

23. writes:
well wouldn't the better question be what isn't stupid about them? Seeing as that is irrelevant and some people need to learn not to take things so seriously . . . ahem, Kirk protested the lack of solos in the album and was very angry with such a decision . . . but as for him being a p***y . .. he has always been kinda feminine if you listen to his voice . . .

master of puppets is a decent album too!!
to be a metallica fan you sink through the good and the bad, right now, they would be in what you call the "bad" era. but it will change.
it's sorta like being a Cubs fan.
AND PLEASE EXPLAIN TO US SEAN, THE STUPIDITY OF THE DUTCH!!!

#1. Metallica rules. #2. Anything Metallica does, rules. aww! the new album didn't have solos so now all the guitarists in the world are mad with Metallica. get over it . Metallica still dominates the metal scene because they've always done what they felt like doing. if they did anything other than what they believed in, then they would be sell outs. they never sold out. METALLICA RULES! And f#ck the Dutch

Muffy can't help it. It's the genetics. When you have generations upon generations of
missouri white trash and you family coat of arms consists of a Budweiser can and a
carton of GPC's your going to be ignorant forever. Muffy makes the mongoloids from
the film "Wrong Turn" look like Ivy leaguers!!!!

There's no point to taking sides when they're equally as f***ed (Well, maybe not equally, but the 'lesser of two evils' attitude doesn't work with me, why do we have to vote for an evil?). A third party, or total anarchy are to be our only saviours. Or armageddon. Personally, I think armageddon is gonna win hands down.

I don't know if this record really was the most harsh, aggressive type of album they thought it was. However, it was a lot more so than their previous few records
