USX Announces New Live Shows

Appalachian masters of dark psychedelia, USX (formerly U.S. Christmas), will take to the road this week for a run of shows through the Southeastern U.S. states alongside local brethren Generation Of Vipers.

The five-city run begins on Wednesday, July 17th in Asheville followed by Athens, Atlanta, Savannah, and Columbia through next weekend. The two acts are to share the stage with Sons of Tonatiuh, Across Tundras, and more throughout the trek.

Stated USX founder Nate Hall of the trek: “We are anticipating some good hot and sweaty shows with our good friends Generation of Vipers, Sons of Tonatiuh, and some cool new southern bands. We are hitting some of our favorite cities and it would be cool to see a ton of people come out. As always, we will play as loud and hard as we can. And we are LOADED with merch.” More...

USX Releases "Wolf On Anareta" Video

Today, the good folks at Metal Injection offer up the exclusive video premiere of “Wolf On Anareta,” from psychedelic, Appalachian blues rock conjurors, USX (formerly U.S. Christmas). The production was directed by Paul Anderson with additional creative help/execution by USX violinist Meg Mulhearn and a virtual army of imaginative friends.

Partially shot in a restaurant in Asheville, North Carolina, the song comes off the band’s "Run Thick In The Night" full-length, released via Neurot Recordings in 2010. Check out the video clip through Metal Injection or in the player below.

Comments violinist/video producer Meg Mulhearn of the clip: “This video is the result of a lot of hard work by some very talented people. The plague doctor/Muppet fusion idea had been rattling around in my head for awhile in association with this song. Luckily my friends are complete badasses, as well as being extremely generous with their time. Eternal thanks to Paul Anderson, Jenny Webb, Bonnie Beckwith, Tony Plichta, Charlie Howes, Will Lyons, Neal Wilson, David Lynch and my very patient bandmates in USX. Additional thanks to Jim Henson, wherever you are.”

Adds guitarist/vocalist/wordsmith Nate Hall: “This was the first and only time we ever filmed anything professionally. All said, it was a good experience. We had control, we trusted Paul to do it right and he did. We got to torment people in an upscale restaurant with several hours of full-on sonic assault, pointy guitars, and general dirtbaggery. It has all the things I love about music videos: tons of guitars, amps, angry bass, drummers, creepy Muppets, leather pants, dark woods, and fake bloody Tony Plichta. Dig it. My life would be complete if we could just get Beavis and Butthead to make fun of our video.” More...

Commented Hall on his latest musical journey: “This record was something I needed to do. I didn’t really plan on it, but it helped me to get rid of a lot of bad dreams. Feelings that pulled me down. Things that I would not carry around with me anymore. It helped me to put the past behind me. Now I can look to the future."

The track listing is as follows:

01. The Earth In One Cell
02. Dark Star
03. Kathleen

U.S. Christmas Streaming Entire New Release

AOL Music is currently hosting a U.S. Christmas listening party. You can check out "The Valley Path" in its entirety at this location. The latest full-length from the Appalachian act came out yesterday via Neurot Recordings. The follow-up to 2010's "Run Thick In The Night" consists of one, near 40-minute mammoth track.

Guitarist/vocalist/wordsmith Nate Hall also previously commented on the offering: "When the idea for The Valley Path was imagined, all involved agreed it was true and went forward. Forward in thought, forward in vision, forward in action. We achieved what we wanted to achieve, and whatever is said about The Valley Path, it will stand. USX has played more gigs than I can remember, from Marion to Prague, Detroit, Austria, Memphis and Switzerland. Dirt floors and Masonic temples, churches and ghettos, wilderness and cities. To dozens and hundreds - occasionally thousands. We have recorded our songs, projected our collective visions. We have realized all that we have imagined.

"At this point, we have nothing to prove. We’ve been under the gun many times, and whatever anyone might think about us, we’ve never flinched. Never compromised. When things are good - and they usually are, being in this band is a dream. But we can’t entirely escape reality. Fuse boxes blow, power fails, instruments break, people leave. We vomit in parking lots and go play inside. We sleep sitting up and wake up sore. Or we sleep in places most people would not willfully enter. We are hungry and miss home. We go on, and we are thankful because we have songs. And when we write our songs become a part of us, our center. Our home. A song does not have to be a part of a collection. It is more important for music to take the path it chooses, and an artist must be willing to let this happen. The Valley Path is one song. And a song is a thing that changes."

U.S. Christmas Announces Mini-Tour Dates

Psychedelic, high-volume blues rock ensemble U.S. CHRISTMAS will release their long-anticipated fifth full-length, "Run Thick In The Night," via Neurot Recordings on September 20, 2010. The disc was recorded by Sanford Parker at Fahrenheit Studio in Johnson City, Tennessee, mixed by Parker and USX members Nate Hall, Matt Johnson and Josh Holt at Semaphore Studios in Chicago, IL and mastered by Collin Jordan.

Said Hall of the upcoming release: "This record followed some difficult times for many of us, and I think you can hear that in RTITN. It is not as lyrically dark as ETLD, however it is a continuation of those elements. Run Thick In The Night is rooted in something outside of us, but is driven by a clear and persistent vision. It was necessary for USX to make this album, and it was something I absolutely had to do. I can't really explain it any better than to simply say that it is a very personal, spiritual album for me. ...When I hear the music now I see distinct real places that have, over time, woven into my imagination and become surreal."

"We recorded the entire 13-song album in one weekend in Tennessee, with Sanford Parker at the helm," he continues. "Our friend Travis Kammeyer helped out a lot with studio time and he added some really cool Hammond organ sounds. Minsk drummer Tony Wyioming also played hand drums on a few tracks. Our friend from North Carolina, Hush, did the original artwork, which I think really fits the mood perfectly. Josh Graham from Neurosis/A Storm Of Light did the layout work for us, and it was the perfect finishing touch. I am really proud of RTITN, and really proud of everyone in USX."

As a precursor to the release, the band will embark on three North Carolina shows with fellow NC doom trio BLACK SKIES. In November, the band will play "Run Thick In The Night" in its entirety at The Hideaway in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Here are the latest U.S. CHRISTMAS tour dates:

09/16/2010 Legitimate Business - Greensboro, NC w/ Black Skies
09/17/2010 The Milestone - Charlotte, NC w/ Black Skies
09/18/2010 The Soapbox - Wilmington, NC w/ Black Skies
11/13/2010 The Hideaway - Johnson City, TN [Full "Run Thick In The Night" album set]
