Stillborn Fest Show Report From December 26th

I had the opportunity to attend the Stillborn Fest 2005 in Philadelphia, Pa at the Electric Factory on December 26th. I must say for being as pissed off as I was that I couldn't move anywhere without a pit of hardcore dancers starting right next to me, that it was still a good concert. All of the few bands I had the chance to see were really good live and they were enjoyable. This is how the night shaped up: More...

"Alone In The Dark" Tracklisting Revealed

Nuclear Blast has announced the tracklisting of "Alone in the Dark," the original motion picture soundtrack inspired and from the movie. The soundtrack will feature some of today’s best Metal bands such as Dimmu Borgir, Shadows Fall, Fear Factory, Machine Head amongst others, and it will be featured on a double disc format. This is the first time a Hollywood production receives an all Extreme Metal soundtrack. The release date for the soundtrack has been set for January 25, 2005.

Edward Carnby (Christian Slater) is a private investigator specializing in unexplainable supernatural phenomena. His cases delve into the dark corners of the world, searching for truth in the occult remnants of the ancient civilizations. Now, the greatest mystery of his past is about to become the most dangerous case he has ever faced. With the help of his ex-flame, archeologist Aline Cedrac (Tara Reid), and his bitter rival, government agent Richard Burke (Stephen Dorff), Edward Carnby is about to learn that just because you don’t believe in something, that doesn’t mean it can’t kill you. God Forbid Tour Report From Doc Coyle

God Forbid just wrapped up a highly successful European tour alongside Machine Head and Caliban and Doc Coyle (guitars, vocals) checks in with the following report:

We finally arrived home from our mammoth 10 week European tour with Machine Head and Caliban. This was our first time to most of these places and this tour took us from as far north as Finland, down to Portugal, an entire UK tour, and even as far east as Serbia, Croatia, and Bulgaria. It was exhausting yet exhilarating because of the massive, insane crowds we got to rock in front of every night! With the exception of Ozzfest, this was the biggest tour we've ever done. From the bottom of our hearts we want to thank Rob, Phil, Dave and Adam from MH for taking us out. Much respect to Caliban and both crews for a successful tour.

Since we left in early October a tyrant has been re-elected and a great legend has fallen. Sad times indeed. We were in Serbia when we heard the news of Dimebag Darrell's death. Being longtime Pantera fans, and having the opportunity to meet the man on several occasions, it has been a very emotional time for everyone in God Forbid. It's been emotional for the entire heavy music and hard rock scenes in general. Pantera was the first concert my brother and I ever went to, the first band T shirt I bought and part of the reason I play music. You don't want to believe it is real. All of us are hit really hard because it's the exact opposite of the way our scene is. The metal and hardcore scene is really close-knit and like a family. The bands are close with the fans and I know Pantera was always close with their fans and treated them like friends not just fans. You would never expect anything like this to happen in our scene. God Forbid sends our deepest sympathy to the Abbott family and anyone close to this great man. A lot of love for Dimebag! "We're sharing riffs man!"

God Forbid Tour Update

Dallas Coyle (guitars) of GOD FORBID checks in with the following report from Europe:

"We're back again to let you know how the Weapons of Mass Destruction Tour with Caliban and Machine Head is going. Today we're in Lille, France ready to play in front of another sold out crowd. This tour has been absolutely crazy and we've been meeting more and more people each day who are feeling the metal GF is supplying. Two days ago in Tilburg we had a crazy party night. Everyone from Caliban and Machine Head was at the club partying hard, dancing, drinking and just acting plain stupid. Dave was buying everyone drinks and Robb was going around biting peoples heads! Yeah, it was that type of night and guess what? We still have four more weeks left. On Sunday we hit the UK and bring the madness to the Brits! I know they are ready for it; we are. So, to all you crazy M-F'ers out there, keep it real and dodge the draft!"

God Forbid Guitarist Checks In With Tour Report

Dallas Coyle (guitars, vocals) of God Forbid checks in with the following tour report:

Dallas here again from Oslo, Norway to let you in on what's happening. First and foremost, we got the new video for "Gone Forever" from Zach Merck (Atreyu, Shadows Fall) and we're all happy to say that it's amazing. He caught the live vibe of the band and shows us having fun and kicking ass. A lot of you Jersey boys might be in the video so look out for it when it hits Headbangers Ball and Uranium.

We are still in Europe right now with Caliban and Machine Head and the shows are getting better and better. We finally got a new bus because our old one was what we called "The DirtOven." The new one is definitely like Vegas - mirrors, lights and clean! Some of our crew are gambling addicts so that adds to the Vegas vibe.

I want to send a big thank you to the kids in Helsinki, Finland for giving us the best shows we've played so far in Europe. Finland loves their metal! We can't wait to come back. We're really spreading the GF name and all the promoters and kids can't wait for us to come back. We have 6 more weeks in Europe left so we still got a ways to go!

Well, that's it from me. We'll see you all soon.

Caliban To Open For Machine Head

German metalcore band Caliban have officially been confirmed as the opener for the duration of Machine Head's European tour, beginning on October 9 in Belgium and wrapping up 49 shows later on December 14 in Greece. Also appearing on the bill will be God Forbid. A complete list of currently confirmed tour dates can be viewed at this location.

Caliban recently signed with Abacus and Roadrunner Records for the American territory and the world outside the U.S., respectively. The group's fourth full-length album, "The Opposite From Within," will be issued in the U.S. on October 5 (it was released in Europe on September 20).

Produced by In Flames frontman Anders Friden and mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap (Machine Head, Killswitch Engage, Arch Enemy) at the Backstage Studio in the U.K., "The Opposite From Within" "takes the band's formula of Slayer-esque, precise metal guitars with emotional hardcore to a whole new level of maturity," according to a press release. "Double-bass mosh parts, enormous walls of guitar and the band’s keen sense of melody are played with utter conviction throughout the 12-song outing."

God Forbid Tour Update From Doc Coyle

New Jersey metal titans God Forbid will embark on a brief headlining tour that kicks off Sept. 23rd with support from A Life Once Lost, Norma Jean and The Red Chord, among others. All of these shows will be filmed for a live video for the album’s title track, “Gone Forever,” to be shot by acclaimed director Zach Merck (Atreyu, Shadows Fall). These dates will also serve as the last God Forbid shows in the U.S. this year as they will immediately head to Europe with Machine Head to close out 2004 with nine weeks worth of shows.

The group just wrapped up a highly successful run on Ozzfest and a short stint in Japan. Doc Coyle (guitars, vocals) checks in with the following update:

We have just returned from a very successful first-time trip to Japan. There were two shows in Tokyo with the legendary In Flames and mighty Chimaira. The crowd was extremely appreciative and active, even though we were the opening act. The show was highlighted with a ‘God Forbid' chant and plenty of fist pumping! A great deal of thanks goes out to Tetsu and everyone at Toy's Factory and Creative Man for rolling out the red carpet for us. It was a blast, and we can't wait to go back ASAP.

The conclusion of Ozzfest was also a great way to end the summer. We were disappointed that the last show in West Palm was cancelled. Hurricanes suck and we will try to get back down there on our next U.S. trek. Overall, this was the best thing to ever happen to God Forbid. I've never had more fun in my life, and I can't say enough how much we appreciated that opportunity. I want to thank the GF crew: Dirty Larry, Willie Gee, Billy "Vietnam" Bomba, Hoss Money, Jeremy, Socks, the entire 2nd stage, Jimmy and all at Jager, everyone at Century Media and of course all of the bands (especially 2nd stage) for being cool ass motherfuckers. Playing the shows was amazing, but the best part was the nighttime hangouts and grill sessions with all the boys (and a few girls). Damn, I feel like I'm accepting an Oscar. Anyway, props to Andy ETID for the Metallica Party and Ozzy for keeping that shit going!

God Forbid Checks In With Ozzfest Report

New Jersey metal titans God Forbid are currently annihilating audiences on Ozzfest, continuing their touring onslaught in support of their latest release Gone Forever. Doc (guitars, vocals) checks in with the following update from the road:

“What's up everyone. Doc here checking in from Ozzfest 2004. It's been a little over a week since I last gave an update, but it's been a very busy first couple weeks. Today is our first day off since July 10th. God Forbid has one of the busiest off date schedules of any Ozzfest band, but I'm still going to try and give as many updates as possible. We are having the time of our lives and are maybe partying a little too hard thanks to our friends at Jager doing their best to get us drunk by noon. I'll do a little backtracking: More...

Dimmu Borgir Report - July 26 in Vancouver, BC

One of the disadvantages of living in Vancouver is that we get snubbed by Ozzfest every year. The good thing is that Ozzfest comes close enough (Auburn, WA) for some of the bands on the bill to perform here on one of their Off-fest dates. Three of such bands happened to be God Forbid, Otep, and Norway's Dimmu Borgir this year. More...

Ozzfest Report - July 18 in Bristow, VA

On Sunday, July 18, 2004 I enjoyed one of the best Ozzfests I've witnessed at the Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, Virginia, despite a day that started off pretty bad. To put it all in perspective, I'll start at the beginning. I awoke to prepare for the day and immediately noticed that my right eye which was slightly irritated the day before was swollen half shut. After 30 minutes or so of being awake, I was developing a serious headache from the pressure of my swollen eyelid being open. Although I had fully intended to arrive at Ozzfest by 9:30 and see every band perform, I quickly resigned to going in to the hospital to have my eye checked out. The decision was an easy one because the headache was already terrible and I could only imagine the situation worsening throughout the day as dust, rain, sweat, and/or sun screen got into my eyes.

After two hours in the hospital to get some antibiotic eye drops, I was on my way. One side effect of the eye infection was that I was forced to wear glasses instead of contacts, which totally sucks - it's kind of hard to headbang with glasses on.

Factoring in travel time, I arrived at Ozzfest just two hours into the show. The weather was overcast and comfortably cool 70's. They were calling for a 60% chance of rain, but the weather was holding, despite passing through some rain on the drive to Bristow. More...
