Tony Naima To Release Album Of Dismember Covers
On May 8, Swedish singer/songwriter Tony Naima and his band the Bitters will release an album of Dismember covers simply called Dismember. The bizarre idea came together in February 2006 when, at a Dismember record-release party, Naima was asked to take the stage to perform interpretations of two of the band's songs. The gag went over so well that Naima, with full consent of the band, decided to record an entire record of covers. Selections from the disc can be heard at Tony Naima's MySpace page.

Dismember, Grave and Absymal Dawn Tour Cancelled
Abysmal Dawn's Charles Elliott has sent in the following update regarding the cancellation of the Dismember and Grave tour that they were scheduled to be part of:
"For whatever reasons our tour with Dismember and Grave has been cancelled. This situation is completely out of our control and we hope that people understand and come out to support us next time. Words cannot express how frustrate we feel at the moment after taking this tour on such short notice. We would like to thank Mike Bear (Artisan) for offering to fill in for Carlos on this tour at the last minute. As many of you know he played bass on "From Ashes" and would have done an amazing job. The first date of the tour will still take place at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood on December 1st. The lineup for the night will be Abysmal Dawn, Coffin Texts, Letum Ascensus, Nema and Unsanctified. Tickets are only $8 for the night and if you bought tickets in advance you can come down to the show for either a partial or full refund."
This announcement comes not long after The Absence dropped off the Entombed, Dismember, and Grave tour "because of several unresolved problems" with their booking agent.

Vital Remains Kicked Off Of Opening Show
Scheduled to kick off their East Coast tour tomorrow, Sept. 30, in Bedford, NH with Dismember, Grave, Demiricous and Withered, Vital Remains was notified yesterday that they were not welcome to perform at the first show. Vital’s guitarist, Tony Lazaro states, “We were scheduled to play with Grave and Dismember up at Mark’s Place in Bedford, NH but the promoter booted us from the show. He said since we are ‘affiliated’ with the ‘evil’ Glen Benton that he wanted nothing to do with us. I guess he had heard what happened at the Deicide show in TX, heard he sang for us on our last record and is gonna sing for us on this next one and was worried that, I don’t know, we’d be sacrificing children of something. We told him that Glen wasn’t even going to be on this tour with us. I think he’s sitting home in FL right now ready to go out on the road with Deicide. The guy didn’t even care. We are guilty by association! We’re sorry to anyone up there who was planning on seeing us. We’ll try and get up there soon, we just need to find a promoter who isn’t afraid of us, and by the way, everyone knows we sacrifice goats on stage, not children. Metal”
Scheduled to record the follow up to 2003’s Dechristianize this winter, Vital Remains has already announced that Glen Benton will be returning to record vocals for the new album. Re-released this spring was the band’s Horrors Of Hell compilation which contains the band’s early demo recordings.

Vital Remains Comment On Upcoming Tour
VITAL REMAINS are gearing up to corrupt the Atlantic Seaboard. Heading out with Dismember, Grave, Demiricous and Withered the tour starts in Bedford, NH and ends in Montreal, Canada. Fueling the band’s inferno, the raging line-up will include mainman Tony Lazaro (guitar), Dave Suzuki (guitar), Anthony Geremia (vocals), Necrotorture’s Antonio Donadeo (drums), and Ron Green (bass).
“Just checking in with everyone right before Vital hits the road again,” mainman Lazaro commented yesterday, “Going out with Dismember and Grave is going to be killer! These are two great old school death metal bands that really helped define the Swedish Death Metal sound. A brutal assault; Death Metal the way it was meant to be, fast and heavy!!
“I know people have been wondering about the new record…well, it’s just about 100% written. More importantly, it looks like Mr. Benton is going to be doing vocals for us once again! We were able to work around Deicide’s crazy touring schedule, and we’ll be hitting the studio by the end of the year. We’ll keep you posted on all the info and if you haven’t already, go pick up Deicide’s Stench of Redemption…it’s an amazing record. Hope to see everyone in the underground come out and as always, thanks for the support! LET THE KILLING BEGIN!” -I-ony666
Re-released this spring was the band’s Horrors Of Hell compilation which contains the band’s early demo recordings.

Dismember Drummer Discusses New Album
Chris Kee of Live4Metal recently conducted an interview with DISMEMBER drummer Fred Estby. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
Live4Metal: How was the whole recording experience this time [on "The God that Never Was"], compared to your previous studio work?
Estby: "The difference was that this time we recorded in one stretch, like we used to do ten years ago. Last time we recorded like, here and there. This one was a very intense recording. Also Martin, our new guitar player, has been very much involved in the music writing for this one. He was also in the studio the whole time so there were more people to react to and talk about the sounds."
Live4Metal: How do you feel the new album stands up next to your back catalogue? Where would you put it?
Estby: "Well, of course, if you ask anyone who has done a new album, they are always going to put that one first, but one thing I do really like about it is the sound. I'm really pleased with that. I would put it in our top three easily. Hopefully I will still say that in two years time, but I think I will because the songs are strong and the sound is good too."
Live4Metal: Your press release makes a point of stating that you used no computers, triggers or digital enhancements when recording the album. Is that really important to you?
Estby: "Yeah, sure it is. Like today, this is the first time ever I actually have to use a trigger on my bass drum and it fucking sucks. I hate it. Hearing that sound makes me think of a computer. It's not a dynamic sound that I am concentrating on bringing out of the fucking drum kit. So tonight I am going to play without any bass drum in my monitors which won't be great but it's better than hearing that computerized sound. All the bands have the same kind of drum sound these days. All the bass drums sound the same! Like the guy providing the drum kit today didn't even have a hole in the front head."
Live4Metal: How has the whole touring experience changed since the early days?
Estby: "Oh, it is very different. I have got three kids and a wife, so it's a different story. It's not fun in the same way. It's fun to be on stage and it's fun to meet people, fun to travel and see the world, but still you have something back home that is giving you a kind of bad conscience about the whole thing. Being away you miss so many responsibilities, so when I am home I really concentrate on catching up on everything I missed, trying to make up for everything that I haven't done at home while I've been away. We have tried to make the tours shorter. Also with the longer tours you don't feel you are getting a better financial agreement. On shorter tours you can concentrate on playing better venues, venues you really want to play at, where the people really want to see you. The venues that show the most interest are the ones where the band most wants to play and that makes it fair for the band and the audience."
Live4Metal: How much ambition is there still in the band to take things to a higher level?
Estby: "Of course, we would like to be bigger, but not at the cost of being a band that plays for people who actually don't care. I would like to expose the band to a wider spectrum so that people could realise that this kind of music has a lot of potential. Not only that but this isn't the kind of music that is going to disappear in a couple of years. We've been here for eighteen years."
Live4Metal: And what would you say have been the happiest and most enjoyable parts of those eighteen years?
Estby: "I think now. We have more time and we are actually living from our music right now. We managed to a bit in the early '90s but not much. That was when we actually built the credibility that we have now. We did a lot of touring, we had debts, we just lived the life and there was no other way. For many years we had very bad financial status so we had to work, we had to have day jobs. Then we have had families and member changes, we've been through a lot of harsh periods. Apart from now there was the time when we actually got to put out an album, to tour and we actually sold albums too. That was also a very exciting."

Usurper To Appear On Inferno Festival
Chicago’s USURPER have just been confirmed to appear at INFERNO METAL FESTIVAL NORWAY 2006. Taking place, as always, in Oslo between the 13th – 15th April 2006 at the Rockefeller Music Hall, USURPER join a list of heavyweights already announced including EMPEROR, CATHEDRAL, MARDUK, BOLTTHROWER, DISMEMBER, CARPATHIAN FOREST and WITCHCRAFT. For a complete lune-up list, go here.
USURPER’s JON NECROMANCER is already fired up even though their might be a slight problem with stage gear. On Inferno’s site it clearly states: ‘Sharp spikes and studs are not allowed and will be removed at the door!’
“Obviously, Usurper is incredibly psyched at the opportunity to play in Europe again, especially at a fest as killer as Inferno. The line-up looks incredible this year, and we are bringing a 75 minute set packed with new songs, as well as some "oldies" going back to the demo era that we haven't played live in over 10 years! Scandinavia has always been supportive of us, especially in the early years, and we intend to do our best to repay the favor!”
The whole event is now virtually sold out, although a few day tickets are still available on the website
