Dave Mustaine Posts Health Update Online
Megadeth's Dave Mustaine has posted the following update online regarding his recent trip to the hospital and having to cut the band's March 16th performance in St. Petersburg, Russia short.
"Last night I was getting ready for the concert, and two hours before the show, I started to feel like I had a hernia, or more like I had been hit in the groin.
"I told my tour manager that I needed a doctor and that there was no way I was going to get through this on my own; that I thought it might be in my best interest to consider canceling the show.
"Now I rarely, if ever cancel shows, and after 45 minutes of prayer with my loving wife and sweating like a dog, I was told to pee for the doctors. They then explained that there was blood in my urine. I was mad; I would say pissed, but that is an obvious pun.
"So they gave me an IV, and analgesic, and an anti-inflammatory injection. The next hour is kinda blurry, but I woke up and David [Ellefson, Megadeth bassist] was holding my hand and praying over me, and even Tom [Araya] and Dave [Lombardo] from Slayer came in to check on me, so I knew I was gonna be OK.
"For now.
"And to anyone that thinks Tom and I are still opposed, I feel sorry for you.
"Anyway, when I woke up, they said that there was so many people outside of the venue still, that they could hold the show for 30 additional minutes, and I said, 'Guys, I am OK, and we can do this.'
"Well, the doctors were not amused at all.
"But then again, they have never met the likes of one Dave Mustaine. More...

Marty Friedman To Sell Megadeth Guitars For Japan
Former Megadeth axeman Marty Friedman, who currently lives in Japan, has posted the following statement online announcing that he will be selling his own Megadeth-era guitars for help in the relief of Japanese earthquake vicitims.
"Thank you all for your support and prayers. I am 100% fine, 100% healthy and in better shape than ever. However, there are many, many people here in Japan that are facing an unbelievable tragedy.
"It's time to go to the next step. I will be auctioning ALL of my guitars from the Megadeth-era and will donate 100% of the proceeds to the earthquake relief.
"I am going to L.A. right NOW to the climate controlled lockup where all the guitars have been in their cases since January 2000. All guitars I used on all the Megadeth recordings, tours, videos, everything WILL be auctioned off.
"When I get to the lockup, I will do my best to sort out which was used for what (I suck at that...I'm sure many of you guys know better than I do) and notate as many details as possible. Pictures, descriptions and how to bid will all be up on my U.S. website as well as my Japanese website within 2-3 days.
"I have NEVER sold ANY of my guitars before; this is the only way these guitars will leave my possession. I urge you to please spread the word and most of all BID HIGH. You will be putting a huge deposit in the 'karma bank' and have some pretty cool guitars to show for it. DO IT!"
More information will be posted online as it is made available.

Glen Drover Readies Solo Album, "Metalusion"
With the release of his solo debut, "Metalusion" (due out April 5th), guitarist Glen Drover, best known for his precision and power playing with Megadeth and Eidolon, "blends the venom and attack of modern metal and the technically demanding musicianship that defines the classic jazz-rock genre."
The instrumental, 10-track album features five original compositions and metallic- edged interpretations of material composed by musical giants Frank Zappa, Al DiMeola and Jean-Luc Ponty.
"Metalusion" presents a side of Drover's musical identity that the metal community has rarely witnessed, while boasting diverse yet highly cohesive tracks. "Each song should sound as though it was meant to be included on the record," says Drover. "Nothing should seem as though it's out of place."
Assisting Drover are a number of special guests, including Nevermore's power metal/prog metal guitarist Jeff Loomis, Opeth's and Talisman's axe man Fredrik Åkesson, veteran Steve Smyth of the Bay Area's Forbidden, Ohm's guitar hero, Chris Poland (Megadeth) and classical metal master Vinnie Moore of UFO.
Here's the tracklisting for "Metalusion":
1. Ground Zero Special Guests - Chris Poland and Vinnie Moore
2. Frozen Dream Special Guest - Steve Smyth
3. Egyptian Danza [Al DiMeola Cover]
4. Colors Of Infinity
5. Illusions Of Starlight
6. Don't Let The World Pass You By [Jean-Luc Ponty Cover] - Special Guest - Fredrik Akesson
7. Mirage [Jean-Luc Ponty Cover] - Special Guest - Jeff Loomis
8. Ascension
9. The Purple Lagoon [Frank Zappa Cover]
10. Filthy Habits [Frank Zappa Cover]
David Ellefson Discusses Bass Clinics And More
Megadeth bassist David Ellefson recently conducted an interview with Bravewords.com, in which he discusses his current string of bass clinics, the "Big Four of thrash" touring together, and offering bass lessons. You can check out excerpts from the interview below.
Bravewords.com: You’re currently doing bass clinics with Anthrax' Frank Bello.
David Ellefson: Yeah, it’s cool because Hartke amplifiers has been a really big supporter for me. I started using them as far back as the Peace Sells tour and I’ve turned back to my weapons of choice which is the Jackson bass and the Hartke amplifiers. I did some clinics for Hartke while I was out on the Jagermeister tour and Frank Bello just came on board with Hartke, so I thought it was a really cool idea that during our down time that Frank and I go out and do some clinics together. The Big 4 thing has become the anchor between the four bands now. We’ve really put a name to our community and I think that anytime any of us do things together whether it’s the SLAYER/Megadeth Carnage tour, the Slayer/Anthrax/Megadeth Jägermeister tour, Frank and I doing bass clinics or all four of us getting onstage as the Big 4 again… More than ever we’ve become so tightly knit as a community of thrash metal right now and anything that we can do together as either pieces of the big machine or as the big machine itself is great for the fans and great for empowering the movement.
Bravewords.com: It really is great, but it was a little late in the making don’t you think? The Big 4 should have been done ten years ago.
Ellefson: The truth of it is – it should have been done twenty-five years ago, but there was a period of time where we were all carving out our own paths and our own destinies which would eventually become our own names for ourselves. To be honest with you, we all had our own course to chart and I think that the fact that we all four went and did that… We were called the Big 4 in the early ‘90s or late’80s even, but it took us to go through what we needed to go through to build our own legacies. Every one of these bands has its own legacy, which then creates this dynasty called the Big 4.
