Hardcore Activity In Progress Show Announced

Last year Red Bull Music Academy made history with Drone Activity In Progress, a once-in-a-lifetime experience that took the best and loudest avant-garde artists, mixed them together in a giant door-factory-turned concert venue in Queens, threw in three larger-than-life sound systems, passed out earplugs, and watched what ensued. Drone Activity In Progress was hailed by critics from The New York Times to The Fader, who called the show a “near-perfect noise show.”

This year, Red Bull Music Academy Festival New York has done one better with Hardcore Activity In Progress, taking place on Friday, May 16, 2014. Like last year, the spectacle will go down at the Knockdown Center in Queens, Nuit Blanche will again deliver an unparalleled multi-sensory experience, and Roberta’s Pizza will provide refuge outside for those trying to escape the overpowering intentional noise bleed. But this year, the event will blow open the doors genre-wise, showcasing a sampling of the most extreme recording artists in metal, techno, jazz, classical, noise, hip hop and beyond. It’s a showcase of music that exists at the extremes of their genres, and as such, here’s a guide to the diverse artists playing the event.

The lineup is as follows:

Tim Hecker (Experimental Music)
Skullflower (Drone Rock)
Napalm Death (Grindcore)
Gunplay (Hip-Hop)
Lubomyr Melnyk (Classical)
The Thing (Jazz)
Regis (Techno)

Bloody Panda Completes Work On New Album

New York avant-doom metal enigma BLOODY PANDA have completed work on their sophomore opus, “Summon." The follow up to the acclaimed “Pheromone” release, “Summon” sees the nightmare Bloody Panda initially conceived (with their split LP with experimentalists Kayo Dot) taken further into the depths. “Summon” will officially be released on August 11th.

Fronted by Japanese siren Yoshiko Ohara (also an accomplished visual artist), it is through her rapturous vocal delivery that compliments the monolithic ritualistic dirge-like rhythm section that helps this beast take its form. Ohara is also responsible for the striking artwork that graces “Summon’s” canvas.

The tracklisting for “Summon” goes as follows:

1. Gold
2. Pusher
3. Saccades I
4. Saccades II
5. Miserere
6. Grey
7. Hashira

“Summon” will be presented as a two-disc, CD/DVD release, the DVD being an abstract visual interpretation of the 20-plus minute track “Miserere.” Filmed in various parts of Brooklyn, along with footage captured at Jaliluhur Dam, Indonesia, this visual interpretation is a very dark and mysterious offering featuring renowned butoh dancer Yuko Kaseki.

Bloody Panda is also planning on touring and playing shows to coincide with the release.

An MP3 excerpt of the track “Miserere” can downloaded here.

Bloody Panda Signs To Profound Lore, Readies Album

Brooklyn, NY avant-doom juggernaut BLOODY PANDA will see its new full-length masterpiece released via Profound Lore Records this summer. Following the band’s impressive debut full-length, "Pheromone," the band is putting the finishing touches on 60-plus minutes of cerebral, epic, and haunting hymnals; a no-training-wheels cinematic plunge into the unending nightmare that began four years ago with the band's debut release (a split with fellow east coast experimentalists Kayo Dot). Once again featuring the ghostly, death-defying wails of siren Yoshiko Ohara, the new Bloody Panda opus is a monstrous cry from the depths. More news surrounding Bloody Panda is impending.

Krallice's Debut Album Available Online

The debut album heeding from the black metal vision of guitar wizard Mick Barr (Ocrilim, Orthrelm) and Colin Marston (Behold...The Arctopus, Dysrhythmia, Byla, Indricothere, etc.) is now available exclusively via the Profound Lore website a few weeks before its official release.

The Krallice debut album is a virulent vision from the twisted and unique minds of Barr and Marston. The band also features Bloody Panda drummer Lev Weinstein. Epic time-stretching hymns that take reference from Weakling's "Dead As Dreams," Burzum's "Hvis Lyset Tar Oss" masterpiece, Gorgoroth's "Antichrist," and Ulver's "Nattens Madrigal," while incorporating Barr and Marston's musical pedigree from their respective acts, Krallice has nevertheless created a distinct-sounding opus that helps to strengthen and augment the landscape of North American black metal.

The tracklisting for the Krallice album goes as follows:

1. Wretched Wisdom
2. Cnestorial
3. Molec Codices
4. Timehusk
5. Energy Chasms
6. Forgiveness In Rot

You can check out an MP3 of "Wretched Wisdom" on the MP3 section of Profound Lore's website.

Bloody Panda Signs To Level Plane Records

Diverse indie label Level Plane Records proudly adds New York doom act Bloody Panda to its ranks.

Driven by the mournful, melodic vocals of Japanese frontwoman Yoshiko Ohara, Bloody Panda's transcendent sound finds its roots in the dirge-like power of Swans, the amplifier-worshipping textures of Earth, and the ethereal tension of Skepticism, as well as in various traditional styles from around the globe. The band synthesizes its esoteric influences into focused, powerful, anthemic songs, hailed by Decibel Magazine as "Khanate-caliber doom metal" and by CMJ New Music Monthly as "New York microtonal funeral doom".

Backing Ohara are guitarist Josh Rothenberger, bassist Bryan Camphire, keyboardist Blake McDowell, and drummer Dan Weiss. Weiss' ongoing work in the jazz and world music genres has earned him worldwide acclaim; he has collaborated with such players as Mr. Bungle's Trevor Dunn and has made his mark as a solo artist through his critically-worshipped reinterpretation of traditional Indian tabla music.

Bloody Panda has been turning heads since 2003 with its live show -- an intense, theatrical experience in which band members perform in executioner's hoods -- and, in that time, has shared stages with the likes of Thrones, Akron/Family, Kayo Dot, Unearthly Trance, Wolf Eyes, Mouth Of The Architect, Zombi, and Genghis Tron. Among the converted is Eyehategod's Brian Patton, who witnessed the live spectacle and personally invited the band to contribute a track to the Eyehategod tribute album, "For The Sick" (out in January 2007 on Emetic Records, with Bloody Panda's cover of "Anxiety Hangover".)

Bloody Panda can also be heard on a split EP with experimental act Kayo Dot, out now on Holy Roar Records.

Bloody Panda's full-length debut will be released on Level Plane in April 2007. The album was recorded by Jason Marcucci (Flaming Lips, White Stripes) and mastered by Sarah Register (Lou Reed, Calla). The band will be touring in support of the album.
