Century Media Celebrates 20th Anniversary

2008 has become an extremely exciting year in the history of Century Media Records, one of the world's most respected independent homes for heavy music, as the label is celebrating its 20th anniversary!

The company's Anniversary year started off with an extremely successful, first-ever yard sale/party at the Century Media office in Dortmund (Germany) in June, where several hundred guests partied out on exclusive live shows by Angel Dust and Turisas. A video with impressions from the event can be seen at this location. A photo gallery for this event can be viewed here.

To further celebrate this anniversary Century Media Records will release the very special 2CD compilation "Covering 20 Years Of Extremes" on September 15th in Europe and on October 14th in North America. The various artists covers-release includes 32 mostly exclusive recordings and will be available in stores for the price of one CD. Sticking to the "keep it in the family" slogan, CM approached their artists about covering songs from other acts within the label's repertoire and the response from the musicians was overwhelming.

Some choices were obvious and homages to the bands that influenced them, others were inspired picks. This combination ended up leading to a heavily entertaining and truly special final result across all sub-genres of heavy music.

Here is the tracklisting: More...

Line-up Changes For This Is Hardcore 2008 Festival

Some bands have dropped off this year's This Is Hardcore Fest and the organizers have posted a message to explain why.

"108- These guys are great. Right now they have things to take care and are taking the remainder of the spring/summer off to handle business. Expect them back at full speed this fall/winter."

"SHATTERED REALM – Another band we were really looking forward to, but due to lineup changes will not be playing the fest. They will however be playing Pressure Fest in Germany with Original Singer Chris (of Suffer The Living)."

"STEEL NATION- With a split 7" in the studio their singer flakes out and leaves them stranded. Pauly Edge of Meltdown came to the rescue but ultimately they are without a singer right now. Hopefully they will have someone by August and will be playing the PRESHOW!!"

Some of the bands that are currently confirmed for the festival's lineup include:

ALPHA & OMEGA
CONVICTED
HARD RESPONSE
xKINGDOMx
MAXIMUM PENALTY
PAINT IT BLACK
POVERTY BAY SAINTS
REIGN SUPREME
TERROR

Although location information was not readily available, the festival is presumably taking place later this summer in Philadelphia, PA, as in past years. More details will be posted as they are made available.

Terror Sign To Century Media Records

Century Media Records has announced the addition of TERROR to their roster, and will release the band’s third full-length, The Damned, The Shamed on June 10th. The album was produced by Zeuss (Hatebreed, Shadows Fall) and is “sure to please the band’s diehard fanbase, while garnering a new legion of young maniacal supporters.”

We are very pleased to put out our next record with Century Media. We are lucky enough to travel and tour every corner of the earth and CM has a great worldwide presence. Plus, with a back catalogue of MERAUDER, SHADOWS FALL, and BEHEMOTH, we are in great company.”

Terror Seeks Extras For Video Shoot

Terror will shoot a video on March 25th for the song "Never Alone," from their forthcoming album. The group is looking for extras to participate:

"We need people from about 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM. The more 'rugged' looking, the better; no baby-face dudes. They should wear a white undershirt or white thermal undershirt, and plain sneakers like Converse All-stars or Vans slip-ons."

The shoot will take place at the Holmesburg Prison on Torresdale Avenue in Philadelphia, PA. Interested parties should send an email to vicky@space-monkeystudios.com.

Firestorm Fest Hits Chicago

Last night Firestorm Fest (American Hardcore Lives) rolled into Chicago. My sons, along with one of their friends, accompanied me into the city to see the show.

And what a show it was. I think my ears have stopped bleeding and I think my hearing is beginning to return. We all agreed that it was one of the best shows we've seen in some time.

Terror Completes New Album

Bassist Jonathan Buske of the Los Angeles hardcore/metal act TERROR has issued the following update:

"Just checking in to let you all know that the new record is DONE!!! We finished tracking and doing vocals a few days ago and have been working with Zeuss [producer Chris 'Zeuss' Harris; SHADOWS FALL, HATEBREED] on mixes for the past few days. Like every band says about their newest shit, it's without a doubt the best and hardest TERROR record to date. Expect some new TERROR flavor, some of the old and some unexpected flavor. We can't wait for you all to hear it!!

"We take off in a few days on the Firestorm Fest tour, so be sure to check out the dates for that on our page. Following that, we are doing the legendary Superbowl Of Hardcore in NYC, shooting a couple videos with our bros at Space Monkey Studios, then taking off to Europe to do a run with IGNITE, STRUNG OUT and DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR... then hitting up South America for a week or so. So, be sure to check the dates... we have a ton of stuff coming up."

TERROR is rumored to have inked a deal with Century Media Records for the release of its new album.

BTS Video recently posted footage of TERROR's January 5, 2008 concert at Skunk Hell in Seoul, Korea. Watch it below.

TERROR's latest EP, "Rhythm Amongst The Chaos", was released on October 30 through Reaper Records. This EP includes four new songs and one definitive cover song with a guest vocal appearance from Vinnie Paz of JEDI MIND TRICKS.

TERROR has always been a band known for holding true to their grassroots hardcore ethics. So when indie-hardcore label owner Patrick Kitzel approached the band about releasing a one-off EP through Reaper Records, TERROR jumped at the idea. "Scott [Vogel, vocals] and I have been friends for fifteen years and worked together with all of his prior bands," said Kitzel. "When the idea presented itself to do an EP for the love of the cause, it was a quick decision on who would be putting it out!" More...

Fucked Up To Release Holiday/Charity 7"

In honor of the season, Fucked Up has recorded a special festive single. The A-side features a brand new holiday themed song by Fucked Up. Clocking in at four minutes, this ripper is about the birth of our lord and savior: David Eliade and serves as a taste of what is to come on Fucked Up's forthcoming LP, "The Chemistry Of Common Life," that will see the light of day next year.

The B-side of the record boasts a very special Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa song which sees Fucked Up collaborating with:

James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem)
Cole (Black Lips)
Davey Havok (AFI)
Kevin Peterson (What's Your Rupture?)
Faris Rotter (The Horrors)
Mike Fellows (Rites Of Spring)
Matt Sweeney (Chavez/ Zwan)
Dave One (Chromeo)
Jacob Thiele (The Faint)
Morag and Ursula
Jay Reatard
Dan Romano (Attack In Black)
Trevor Keith (Face To Face)
Jason Green (Panthers/ Orchid)
Jerry A. (Poison Idea)
Shenae Grimes (Degrassi: The Next Generation)
Scott Vogel (Terror)
Nelly Furtado

This is not a joke. All of these people (willingly) participated in the recording of this song. This is probably the most bizarre collaboration that they have/ will ever do. The recording time for this record was generously donated by Chris Hegge of Audiolab Studios Toronto.

The record comes gift wrapped in special Fucked Up wrapping paper, graciously donated by Simone (sometime member of Fucked Up) of Punchclock and it will be limited (there is no way we are going to wrap too many of these).

All proceeds from the sale of this record will go directly to George Herman House, a transitional housing and life skills program that supports women who are living with mental health issues in Toronto.

Terror Frontman Interview Posted

Frontman Scott Vogel of 21st century hardcore leaders TERROR recently took time out from his busy touring schedule with CHIMAIRA, DIVINE HERESY, and KATAKLYSM to sit down with MetalSucks to discuss the tour, the band's new EP, their relationship with former label Trustkill Records and what Japanese hardcore crowds are like. An excerpt from the chat follows:

MetalSucks: So you guys just put out a new EP, "Rhythm Amongst the Chaos". How did that come about?

Vogel: It came about due to the fact that our label, Trustkill, um… y'know, we had wanted to, maybe two years ago, do the EP. It's a tiny label that put it out, Reaper Records, one of our really good friends, and our label [Trustkill] wasn't so into the idea of us doing [the EP] with another label. So we've recently put out an album on Trustkill, fulfilled our contract, and we're free to do what we want now. So we did it really kind of DIY — we recorded it in our drummer's studio, like where we record our demos, and, y'know, put it out on a tiny label with our friends for fun.

MetalSucks: And you have some cool guest appearances on it…

Vogel: Vinnie Paz from the JEDI MIND TRICK… I don't know if anyone here at MetalSucks listens to hip-hop — maybe they actually do if the site is called "MetalSucks" (laughs)… Um, JEDI MIND TRICK is a hip-hop group from Philly, and he's our friend and he loves hardcore and he loves metal and we just thought it'd be cool if, instead of having him rap, we had him actually scream and he sounded great so…

MetalSucks: So speaking of metal sucking, you guys are definitely unique to this tour in that you're the only hardcore band on the bill. Do you feel like the line between metal and hardcore are dissolving now?

Vogel: Well, we've done some tours, y'know, we've played with BEHEMOTH, we've played with all sorts of bands… we're very open minded. I mean, I listen to everything from SLAYER to HOT WATER MUSIC to GANG STAR and everything in between. Y'know, we're definitely kind of the fish out of water on this tour, and I know there will be some people that will come to the shows that don't really wanna hear us, which is totally fine with me — there's a lot of bands I don't wanna hear — but, y'know, I wanna play to anyone at anytime, any place. I definitely don't wanna come to New York every time and play to the same people — that kind of defeats the purpose of making music, so… it's a really good opportunity for us, and I just have fun, y'know? So we're definitely down for whatever.

Kataklysm Vocalist Comment On Upcoming Tour

Having recently returned from a wildly successful European tour (including a performance at Nuclear Blast's 20 Year Anniversary Party in Stuttgart, Germany), KATAKLYSM vocalist Maurizio Iacono shares his thoughts on the band's upcoming stint as the support act for CHIMAIRA and TERROR:

"The KATAKLYSM machine is well-oiled and ready to crush! We are very anxious to start this tour with CHIMAIRA this Wednesday and can’t wait to see all our fans again and start the mayhem that we are known for. Unfortunately, our bass player Stéphane Barbe won't be able to make this trek because he and his girlfriend are expecting their first baby, but if all goes well, he'll be rejoining us on stage for the last three shows on the tour in Montreal, Toronto, and Millvale, Pennsylvania. In the meantime, worry not as Francois Mongrain from tech masters MARTYR is filling in on bass and is ready to strike and draw blood with the hyperblasters." More...
