This Week In Metal - August 17th, 2006

A new top album ? Its true, this week Strapping Young Lad takes over the top spot from Shadows Fall. Both of these bands are very deserving, but we crown our second #1 in as many weeks. Last weeks top 7 managed to stay on the chart, but jump around a little bit. While we have 3 brand new albums debuting this week, with one going as high as #6 in Voivod's Katorz. This is quite possibly the best album these guys have released and they are finally getting the notority they deserve. Not far behind them in the new releases is Unearths' III: The Eyes Of Fire, which is amazing considering it hasnt been released in alot of areas yet but the pre-orders are astounding. I see a #1 in the future for these guys, but who can knock off the consistancy SYL is showing. All That Remains also leapfrogged The Shads into the #2 slot and the big jumper was Between The Buried And Me gaining three slots, which is hard to do considering the company they are in. Meanwhile, Cellador dropped from 8th to 11th. Acacia Strain from 9th to 14th and BYD to 12th. New albums already making a storm up the charts are Slayers "Christ Illusion" with pre-ordering alone landing it inside the top 20. Hatebreed's Supremecy is also showing strong and will reach the top 10 next week. Also in responding to the comments I am considering making this, and the singles list a top 15. If you think its a good idea please respond so, or if thats too much tell me to keep it at 10. \m/.

Now for the singles, with a very familiar band to anyone who visits this site, taking over as #1. Lamb of God also stays strong moving up 1 to #2. Shadows Fall and Stone Sour round out the top 4 with a big jumper for the week Celtic Frost's Ground moving up to number 5. Threat Signal holds strong and then we get to three really strong debuts by 3 really strong bands. SYL's new ozzfest anthem boasts the #9 spot as a highlight of the new songs. Roudning out the top 10 is BLS with Concrete Jungle.

Behemoth Joins Machine Head On Stage

During Machine Head's last show in St Paul Minnesota for the Sounds of The Underground Tour, Orion, Seth and Nergal from Behemoth, Matt from Trivium and Doug from Terror were invited onstage for a crunching rendition of 'Davidian'. Behemoth did their characteristic simultaneous windmills, and sang along for the chorus.

Says Behemoth frontman, Nergal,

"I watched their set every day and the way these guys embrace the energy is unspeakable! Also, Rob & Co. played a new song and fuck me, its the best thing theyve made ever: fast and fuckin furious. It was a privilege to share the stage with one of the most incredible metal bands out there. The tour is not over yet, but I can already say that this was my absolute highlight".

A short video clip of the performance is available for viewing from the main MySpace page. Behemoth are now in Vancouver recovering from their Canadian show, anxious to rip up the crowds once again.

Terror Announce New Members, Tour and Release

Terror have posted a lengthy update regarding touring, upcoming releases, and the addition of a new guitar player. Here you go:

"We just returned from our first tour of Mexico... it was pretty insane to say the least. The shows were out of control, kids were out of there minds, and we saw some out of this world outside of the shows. I never thought in my life I'd see a car in the parking lot after a Terror show selling bootleg Terror shits out of a trunk, but it happened. Nick was happy to take a bunch from the dude as our cut.

Coming up on the touring front we have Saturday night at the New England Metal Fest, April 29th. After that we are off to Brazil for four shows with our friends Born From Pain. Then directly to the UK and Europe for the Sounds of the Underground tour there with the one and only Madball (also Unearth and Chimira). Back to the USA for a three week run with Death Before Dishonor and lastly the whole US and Canada on Sounds of the Underground with As I Lay Dying, Gwar, Cannibal Corpse, Black Dahlia Murder and many more. We will also hit Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and Puerto Rico when the new record is out. We cant wait to get back on the road.

July 4th is the day our new record 'Always The Hard Way' hits the streets. It's 14 new tracks, recorded at Planet Z and features guest spots from Eddie Sutton of Leeway, Aaron The Knuckles from Death Threat, and Murs & Mr. Dibbs for any of you hip hop heads. We can't wait to get this out so everyone can hear it. Trustkill is putting it out in the US, Roadrunner in Europe, UK, Japan, and Austraila, Lockin' Out will be doing the vinyl for North America and Reflections for Europe.

May 30th, Trustkill releases our first ever DVD, 'The Living Proof.' It has a full set from London with a new song, studio stuff, a bunch of funny bullshitting, interviews and lots of show footage from around the world. It's all completed and it came out amazing, so check it out. The DVD also comes with some cool extra packaging and a coupon for money savings on the new CD.

Lastly, we want to let everone know Terror has had some member changes over the last few months. Today we have finally again solidified the Terror line up and it is no doubt the strongest to date. Scott, Nick and Doug have been holding it down now for years. Our new bass player is Jonathan Buske who has played with The Promise, Rag Men, and Another Victim, and we now also have Martin Stewart as our second guitarist. He is curently in one of our favorite bands, Donnybrook! and also sings for LION.

Life is good and Terror is set up for alot of fun times for the rest of this year. See you all soon on the road."

Hatebreed Add New Guitarist

Hatebreed have announced the addition of guitarist Frank "3 Gun" Novinec to their line-up. Novinec, a Cleveland native, has previously played with Terror, Ringworm, and Integrity. According to frontman Jamey Jasta, "We've decided to become a five piece again. Mainly because of the new album having a lot of parts that involve second guitar but also because me and Beattie started this band as a 5 piece and feel like it's an integral part of our sound and vision." Meanwhile, Hatebreed's Sean Martin had the following to say:

"Frank '3 Gun' Novinec has been an influential guitar player in the hardcore scene since the release of 'The Promise,' by Ringworm in 1993. His guitar playing/writing with Ringworm, as well as everything he did with Integrity helped to define the Cleveland sound. That sound had a direct impact on me as a guitar player, and as a fan, it got me through a lot of hard times and helped to define my playing today. I was lucky enough to meet 3 Gun while we were on tour with Motorhead, and playing a show in Cleveland. Since then, He's become one of my best friends, and it will be an honor to be sharing the stage with him."
