New Drowning Pool Singer Speaks

It’s bad enough having to tackle that sophomore curse when following a successful debut, such as Drowning Pool did with 2001’s Sinner. But making this one different from the norm is the fact that the Texas band’s second album will also feature their second singer in Jason “Gong” Jones, who replaced the late Dave Williams.

But now that his ranks in the band are official, the new Drowning Pool singer opened up and shared his thoughts on the new album, “To me, it seems more diverse. I mean, the first album was great, don't get me wrong. But this is, you know, those guys have been through a bunch of shit in the past, what, two years, or a year since Dave's passing, however long it's been, and it's gonna be a different, it's a lot more raw. The riffs, the production, yeah. It's not gonna be one of those smooth, metal boy-band-sounding albums, that's for damn sure."

Jones previous music experiences included working on a project with former Snot/(hed)P.E. guitarist Sonny Mayo, and auditioning for the singer spot in Sepultura a few years back.

The new album is titled Desensitized and comes out April 20th through Wind-up Records. The first single is “Step Up,” which also appears on The Punisher movie soundtrack, and is already getting spins on radio.

Drowning Pool To Announce New Singer On HBB

DROWNING POOL are advising their fans to tune in to "Headbanger's Ball" this Saturday, January 24 at 10:00 p.m. for a "special announcement that you don't want to miss!"

The Texan band are expected to reveal that they have recruited ex-BUILT XL frontman Jason "Gong" Jones to fill the singer slot left vacant by the death of Dave Williams.

The 30-year-old Williams was found dead on the DROWNING POOL tour bus on August 14, 2002 while the band were touring as part of the U.S. Ozzfest. An inquest into the singer's death in September 2002 concluded that the vocalist died from cardiomyopathy, a heart muscle disease for which he was never diagnosed. No traces of drugs were found in Williams' system, finally dispelling widespread speculation about the cause of his death.
