Latest Bastard Noise News
Below is our complete Bastard Noise news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Legendary grindcore godfathers Brutal Truth (covered in our Sunday Old School column earlier this year) and abrasive-noise terrorists Bastard Noise have released their new split, "The Axiom of Post Inhumanity."
Combining over four decades of grinding noise dominance, "The Axiom of Post Inhumanity" is a long overdue pairing of extreme music veterans that is sure to push the limits of even the most masochistic listeners. Check it out in the player below.
Brutal Truth drummer Rich Hoak commented on the collaboration: "Working with Bastard Noise has been an honor! together we have created The Axiom of Post Inhumanity with the specific purpose of frying your brain, so please listen LOUD!!" More...
The fourth annual installment of the The Power Of The Riff festival in Los Angeles is now just a week away, the event including a pre-party on Friday, August 9th at The Echo and two-stage, full-day lineup Saturday, August 10th, at both The Echo and Echoplex.
Amidst the massive roster of crushing newcomer acts and classic heavyweights set to execute sets over the two-day fest, one of the main headlining performances of the weekend will be the original lineup of LA crossover act Final Conflict - founder Jeff Harp, vocalist Ron Martinez and bassist Warren Renfrow (Manic Hispanic, Cadillac Tramps) - for the first time in 24 years.
In the 1980s, Final Conflict was part of the first wave of punk bands to be labeled "crossover," with a sonic mix of Discharge meeting Black Sabbath coupled with political lyrics the appropriate soundtrack to inspire a troublemaker to slam, headbang, or throw a brick at a cop... and sometimes all three.
The band will perform 1987's "Ashes To Ashes" LP in sequence as well as early demo material. Although older, the band has no intentions of “phoning it in” - expect a brutal and energetic set.
Additional headlining acts The Obsessed, M.D.C., From Ashes Rise, Black Breath, Iceburn, and others join more than twenty additional bands including Early Graves, Mammoth Grinder, Bastard Noise, Dead in the Dirt, and tons more taking part in the melee. The lineup is:
Friday, August 9th @ The Echo // pre-party:
Black Breath, Early Graves, Obliterations, Nomads, Creative Adult
Saturday, August 10th @ The Echo & Echoplex
The Obsessed, Final Conflict, From Ashes Rise, M.D.C., Iceburn, Iron Lung, Mammoth Grinder, Bastard Noise, Condition, Dead In The Dirt, Baptists, Replica, Completed Exposition, Centuries, Wartorn, Territory, Whip Hand, Children Of God, Old Wounds, Opposition Rising
The 2013 installment of the The Power Of The Riff festival in Los Angeles is right around the corner, this being the fourth annual occurrence of the massive event. It will take place August 9th & 10th 2013 at The Echo & Echoplex, and the lineup is available below. The following press release was also issued about the fest:
"Curated and organized by Greg Anderson and Sam James Velde, The Power Of The Riff honors fans and musicians of all ages from within all walks and lifestyles under the umbrella of the heavy music underground. Tapping into a lineup that represents forefathers, milestones and current touring acts, while shedding light on up and coming bands and local acts, The Power Of The Riff festival is an all-day, all-ages event. The festival also includes an on-location record swap-meet of local stores and features pop-up stores by independent record labels and vendors, DJ sets between performances, a gourmet food truck court with some of Los Angeles' best purveyors of street food dining, and more.
"The fourth annual The Power Of The Riff is spreading it's wings a bit more this time around, this year adding a pre-party on Friday, August 9th at The Echo. The massive full-day lineup the next day, Saturday, August 10th, at both The Echo and Echoplex, offers another stellar lineup of classic heavyweights, and crushing newcomers. The combined events offer 26 bands in total." More...
Fatigue had definitely begun to set in by Day Four. Through the beer belly, muscle ache (everyone’s hotel was up the hill), blown-out senses, and heat I thought could only happen in the south, I persevered though badly worn. The venue was getting pretty rough also. Everyone was tired, but still partying hard. Inside it was sticky and stinky like it had not been before. But that didn’t stop anyone from enjoying the rest of the great lineup on the last day of the mighty MDF.
Bright and early in the afternoon (although it seemed like night in the main room), hometown boys Visceral Disgorge began the festivities. They brought to mind the early works of death metal. Trauma and gore galore, this band encompassed the snarl inhaled low growls, din-destroying high tuned snare, gallop picking guitar done by Eric.
Bad acid Trip’s singer Dirk Rogers opening question to us was, “Is everyone drunk?,” and by just the sight of the crowd through the hours it was obvious that we all were. Crazed rock riffage and grindcore led this band to a energetic frenzy. Dirk was like Ian Curtis and Johnny Rotten; a twisted love child onstage. This band had true dynamic ranging from guttural blasts to hardcore breakdowns to strange, psychotic circus dementia. More...
The Maryland Deathfest organizers report that "Sonar will be re-opening before MDF, and technically they already have."
As previously reported, the venue of the Maryland Deathfest was up in the air when Baltimore's Sonar nightclub failed to renew their liquor license and closed its doors.
The organizers futher commented: "These last couple of days have been incredibly confusing and stressful, but we are currently back to the regularly scheduled program. And don't worry, beyond plan B is a plan C, because that's how we roll. See you in a couple of weeks."
As such, the set times that were previously announced should now hold.

Bay Area metal act SAROS (featuring members of AMBER ASYLUM, BASTARD NOISE, and WEAKLING) has completed work on their new album,"Acrid Plains."
Finding themselves within that circle that comprises the artistic surge of the underground Bay Area metal scene alongside like-minded acts as LUDICRA, HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE, ASUNDER, GRAYCEON, AMBER ASYLUM, and WORM OUROBOROS, Saros present a unique front with their brand of epic blackened progressive chamber-laced metal.
Tastefully blending a collective of influences from several genres such as classic Bay Area metal, black metal, progressive metal, folk, and neo-classical chamber music, "Acrid Plains," produced by the legendary Billy Anderson, embraces the characteristics evident in Saros' musical peers while combining characteristics reminiscent from such acts as METALLICA ("And Justice For All" era), DEATH ("Symbolic" era), the folk-sensibilities of AGALLOCH and DEATH IN JUNE, and the gothic neo-classicism of the aforementioned Amber Asylum (which in turn is Saros singer Leila Rauf’s other full-time band, as well as Amber Asylum mastermind Kris Force also makes a guest cameo appearance on "Acrid Plains" likewise).
The tracklisting for "Acrid Plains" is as follows:
1. Acrid Plains
2. As The Tyrant Falls Ill
4. As The Tyrant Falls Ill (Reprise)
5. Devouring Conscience
7. The Sky Will End Soon

Cattle Decapitation are currently seeking a new drummer, if interested go to the following link: http://www.smnnews.com/board/showthread.php?t=114401. Also, the band has posted the following update:
"Cattle Decapitation is happy to announce "Karma.Bloody.Karma." as the title of the next record. NO, there is not any religious significance of the title. NO, the name does not imply that we're "crazy vegans" trying to push our lifestyle onto people (as a lot of gabbing internet idiots like to pigeonhole us as). It is simply about the "greatest natural disaster of all time," humanity, and revenge for its effect on this planet. This will be the most nihilistic, pessimistic and hateful record we've ever done lyrically, and musically you can expect, what one of our friends has said perfectly about it, a very "schitzophrenic" release! Imagine the Caninus split material, just longer in every way. Features guest appearances by Joey Karam(The Locust) and John Wiese(Sunn 0)), Bastard Noise). Produced by Billy Anderson(Swans, Mr. Bungle Melvins). Available June/July 2006!
Here's the goddamn track list:
2. Unintelligent Design
3. Success Is…(Hanging By the Neck)
4. One Thousand Times Decapitation
5. The Carcass Derrick
6. Total Gore
8. Suspended In Coprolite
9. Alone At The Landfill
11. The New Dawn
12. Of Human Pride & Flatulence"
"We have a new addition to Cattle Decapitation. A new second guitar player by the name of Kevin "Fetus" Bernier of L.A.’s Watch Me Burn/Fetus Eaters/Deadfood/Vomitcore Records. He's been an amazing friend of ours since the beginning and we're very excited to start playing live with him. We'll try our hardest to have him ready for the Necrophagist tour!"
