Ragnarok Completes New Album "Psychopathology"

Norway's Ragnarok, a band that has been active for over twenty years on the black metal scene, have completed work on the eighth full-length album, which is set to be released in early 2016 on Agonia Records. Recorded, mixed and mastered at the Endarker Studio in Sweden by Marduk's Devo, the album will be titled "Psychopathology" and issued by Agonia Records, the exact date to be revealed with other details soon.

Founder and frontman Jontho had this to say about fans can expect from it: "Your wait will finally come to an end in 2016 when we release 'Psychopathology,' our eighth full-length album. I can say with absolute certainty that this album will be the best in Ragnarok's career to date. Bolverk, is on guitars, and DezeptiCunt makes his swansong appearance with the band on bass as he leaves to concentrate on new projects.

Commenting about the band's future plans and DezeptiCunt's departure, Jontho said: "Shortly after completing the recording of our latest album, our bass player DezeptiCunt informed us that he would be leaving the band to concentrate on a new project. As a recording and touring band, Ragnarok requires 100% commitment from its members and at this point neither he nor Ragnarok felt that he would be able to give both bands that necessary commitment. We would like to thank him for the eight years he was with us and wish him all the best for the future.

"Going forward we will be concentrating all our energies on promoting the new album, and plan to take our time choosing the right bass player to take his place, so in the meantime we will be using a session musician for the upcoming live shows." More...

Ragnarok Announces New Vocalist

It has been several months since Norwegian black metal band Ragnarok announced the departure of vocalist Hans Fyrste, and since then there has been much speculation as to who will replace him.

Until now the band has kept quiet about the replacement choice, whilst at the same time rehearsing the new lineup behind closed doors. The new vocalist will be drummer and Ragnarok founder Jontho himself, and his place behind the drum kit on stage will be taken by Dauden drummer Malignant.

Jontho comments: "When Hans Fyrste left I sat down together with bass player DezeptiCunt and guitarist Bolverk, and we knew that finding the right person who would fit Ragnarok's ethos both in terms of performance and live appearances was not going to be easy.

"On top of which we had to begin work on our eighth full-length album, and we didn't want to have to rush into anything we might later come to regret, so we took the decision that I would continue to handle the drums in the studio, as well as taking on the vocals both in the studio and on stage, and that Malignant would drum for us live on stage. Ragnarok Parts Ways With Vocalist

Norwegian black metal outfit Ragnarok has announced an amicable parting of the ways with frontman Hans Fyrste.

Fyrste, who has been with the band since 2005 and performed vocals on two of the group's seven full-length albums - 2010's "Collectors of the King" and the latest release "Malediction" - is cutting back on his musical activities due to other personal and job-related commitments, which had already affected his ability to tour with Ragnarok at the end of last year. His last live appearance with the band was at this year’s Blastfest festival in February.

In a statement the frontman explained his decision: "The decision to leave Ragnarok, has been an extremely hard one to make. Jontho and Brigge brought me in to the horde in 2005, and this still stands as my biggest achievement as a musician. Personal circumstances have made it so that I will not be able to dedicate myself to Ragnarok, as much as it requires. It is with a heavy heart that we have come to an agreement, and I am pulling out of the band.

"All words fall short compared to how grateful I am for have taken part in this journey.Over the years we have experienced so many great achievements, and I would never have been without any of them. Being able to tour around the world, from Siberia to Rio de Janeiro, with supporting, passionate and faithful friends and fans in every city, has been a humbling experience. Every step of the way has also brought with it impressions, educating me to be a stronger person. Also learning so many new things, evolving to be the vocalist and human being I am today.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who has made this journey possible. Without all my great friends and fans out there, nothing of this could have ever happened. Thank you! And finally, of course, thank you Jontho, DezeptiCunt and Bolverk. Thank you for all the great times on and off the stage. Thank you for everything we have gone through together. Thank you for the brotherhood and support! I leave RAGNAROK as a humble man, and wish my brothers all the best in the future."

Ragnarok Announces New Album Info

"Malediction," the new album from Norwegian black metallers Ragnarok will be released on the 30th of October in Europe and on the 6th of November in North America. Agonia Records commented:

"When it comes to Norwegian black metal, Ragnarok is one of the outstanding examples of what integrity and perseverance can bring to the genre. Since their inception at the beginning of 1994, the band has outlasted a multitude of variations and trends within the metal community that sought to influence the black metal genre. Eschewing avant-garde, nu-metal and even hardcore influences, the band remained true to themselves and to the traditions of Black Metal, whilst at the same time growing as writers and performers and refusing to become stale. Today, after 18 years in the business, Ragnarok still play black metal in the classical style, and continue to significantly increase their fan base, having become internationally recognised exponents of the genre with six albums and high profile festivals and tours under their belts. With their seventh full-length album the group deliver the best there is in terms of dark and aggressive music. Ragnarok does not need to re-invent the wheel – they just improve it.

"Malediction was recorded, mixed and mastered by Devo of Marduk's fame at Endarker Studios.
The new album will be available as jewelcase CD, digital download and limited vinyl with exclusive bonus track. First 100 copies will be available on a handnumbered brown vinyl. It can be pre-ordered at this location. More...

Ragnarok Releases New Music Video

Norwegian black metallers Ragnarok, who signed with Agonia Records earlier this year, have released a new video for the title track from their last album "Collectors of the King." The video is produced by William Brovold, directed by Stefan E Pedersen and the cinematography is by Lasse Roed. Check out the clip below.

Drummer and Ragnarok founder Jontho had this to say about the video: "It’s the first official video we’ve done for the band, and for a band that’s been around as long as we have, you could say it’s been a long time in coming. It’s a very dark piece in every sense of the word and perfectly conveys the atmosphere and subject matter of the track itself. We’re very pleased with the result, and now we’ve got a taste for it, it certainly won’t be the last video we make and you can rest assured that the new album will provide plenty of material for the next one."

The band recently entered Endarker Studios in Sweden to record what will be Ragnarok's seventh full-length album. At the production helm is studio owner and Marduk bassist Devo. So far all the drum and guitar tracks have been recorded for the as-yet-untitled album, which is due for release later this year.

The band’s next live appearance will be in August at this year’s Party.San Open Air Festival in Schlotheim, Germany. More...

Ragnarok Signs With Agonia Records

Ragnarok, which split with Regain Records last year, has now signed on with Agonia Records. The label commented:

"We are pleased to announce the addition of Norwegian Black Metallers Ragnarok to Agonia’s roster. The band is set to enter the Endarker Studios on the 24th June to record what will be their seventh full-length album. At the production helm will be studio owner and Marduk bassist Devo. The as yet untitled album is due for release later this year."

"Everyone in Ragnarok is delighted to be signing with Agonia Records," comments the band's founder and drummer Jontho. "It’s been a long haul to find the right label, with a lot of offers to sift through, but what impressed us about Agonia was the immediate reply to any of our questions together with a willingness to work with the band as a team, and, most importantly, they recognize the wisdom of allowing Ragnarok the freedom to be themselves."
