Metallica & Godsmack Tour #7 Most Successful
Metallica's tour with Godsmack grossed around $22 million in the first half of 2004 to land at No. 7 on the list of the 10 most successful tours so far this year, according to Billboard. Metallica might have grossed even more had they not taken several breaks from the road to spend time with their families.
The top earner was David Bowie, whose A Reality Tour grossed $45.4 million over 82 shows, according to MTV.com. Since the figures reflect shows between November 19, 2003, and May 18, 2004, Bowie's numbers were not affected by last month's cancellation of the last 10 days of his European tour.
Godsmack To Headline Tour With Ill Nino, Dropbox
Taking a break between legs of the Metallica tour, Godsmack kicks off a sold-out headline tour of their own with Ill Nino and Dropbox. Godsmack's recent release of THE OTHER SIDE, their acoustic
record, debuted last week at #5 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. Dropbox, which is frontman Sully Erna's first signing to his new Universal imprint Realign Records, and opens all dates, is also featured on the new album with performance and co-writing credits for the song "Touche." Godsmack heads back out with Metallica, April 20 in Uniondale, NY.
Godsmack loyalists who download THE OTHER SIDE from iTunes, Napster and BuyMusic will receive Dropbox's 'Wishbone' as a bonus track. This digital value-add is the first such offer - bundling an album with a track that is already available for sale - for Universal Motown Records Group (UMRG).
Dropbox came together after Erna introduced Lee Richards, Godsmack's original guitarist, to frontman John Kosco, and they detonate April 13 with their self-titled debut, an explosive album of sprawling melodic rock delivered by a band with a deep reverence for the classics.
