Architect Begins Work On New Album
New York metal band Architect has issued the following update:
"We started writing our new record. it doesn't have a title. it doesn't have anything yet. its just a baby of an idea, but it is already potent as hell. We are two songs in and already i feel like a 'structure fire' inside."
See Great Metal Bands At Shaun Luu Horror Fest
If you're in the Syracuse, NY area, there is a really awesome fest to go to this weekend. This fest combines two great things: b-movies and metal/hxc/punk music.
The Shaun Luu Horror Fest is an annual music/movie festival held in memory of Shaun Luu, who died in 2005 from brain cancer. From the fest site:
"Shaun was an amazing guy who was a big part of the Syracuse, NY hardcore/metal community. He sang for Word As A Virus and was a constant face in the crowd at pretty much every kind of show around here. He meant a lot to a lot of people and the fest is our way of remembering him and giving something back.
All the money made gets donated in Shaun's name to fight cancer. The first few years of the festival the money was donated to the American Cancer Society. Last year we decided that the money should stay local so we set up a few funds at University Hospital/Golisano Childrens Hospital in Shaun's name. One of the funds is to support brain cancer treatment and research at University Hospital, one fund is to get some new games and things for the activity room on the cancer ward in the children's hospital (the current activity room is run down and sparse...there are kids there that spend months stuck in the hospital, sick, and depressed as hell...it'd be nice to get some better things in there for them. Keeping peoples spirits up can make all the difference in fighting a disease), and the last fund is to raise money to build a new nurses station in the new children's hospital that will be marked in memory of Shaun."
So you can see eight movies for $20 on Saturday, then for $10 you can see twelve great bands, and at the same time help give some hope to cancer-stricken youth. You'll see the itinerary and all information after the jump.

NEMHF 2009 Adds Third Stage
The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will introduce an additional stage this year dedicated to up and coming bands.
The third stage, sponsored by Deathcote Records, will be located at Chasers Nightclub, located behind the Palladium on the corner of Martin Luther King and Commercial streets. The main festival will be taking place at the Palladium.
“There are so many great bands and not enough time to get all of them on during the course of two days,” said festival co-organizer Sott Lee. “Adding a third stage is a great way for us to showcase some of the developing bands and it’s a terrific opportunity for these bands to play alongside some of today’s top metal and hardcore bands.”
The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will take place on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18, with the Atticus pre-party on Thursday, April 16. This year’s event is presented by Randall Amplifiers, Washburn Guitars and Eden Electronics. Metal Blade Records will present the main stage. Prosthetic Records will present the second stage.
The Atticus-sponsored pre-party will be a unique event that will be combining film and music, kicking off with a screening of official film sponsor Anchor Bay's film "Crowley," co-written by none other than Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson. The provocative supernatural thriller is the tale of a virtual reality experiment gone wrong, sending the soul of the British occultist Aleister Crowley into the body of a shy university professor. But even as Crowley creates all-new orgies of depraved pleasures and black magic, he is now preparing to unleash the ultimate occult event upon the world. Also showing is "Anvil! The Story of Anvil," a sometimes revealing, sometimes hilarious documentary about the legendary Canadian metal band. The movie follows best friends Robb Reiner and Lips as they make a pact to rock together forever. Their band, Anvil, hailed as the "demi-gods of Canadian metal, " influenced a musical generation that includes Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, despite never hitting the big time. Following a calamitous European tour, Lips and Robb, now in their fifties, set off to record their 13th album in one last attempt to fulfill their boyhood dreams. The film will be followed by a performance by the band itself. The pre-party will also be held at the Palladium. Admission is free with a weekend pass or $15 for non-ticket holders.
Prices this year are $40 for Friday, $45 for Saturday or $79 for a 2-day ticket that also includes free admission to the kick off party on Thursday. Tickets are available at all Strawberries, FYE Stores, online at tickets.com or by calling (800) 477-6849. Tickets are available now.

Architect Drop Off Dillinger Escape Plan Tour
Syracuse, New York-based metallers ARCHITECT have issued the following update:
“Due to some scheduling conflicts and some miscommunication with agents and promoters, we aren't going to be able to play the DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN tour. We have only been home from tour for a week and this this fell into our laps and though we all scrambled to make this work it was just not meant to be. The DEP dudes are stand up guys and they sent us a lengthy explanation and apology however there is no fault or blame to be had with anyone. We are sorry to all of our fans and friends that were going to come out and see us over the next few weeks.
This cloud has a silver lining though we got an official ‘WE OWE YOU’ from the DEP camp with a promise to have first crack on a spot on one of their runs in 2008. So in fact you will still see us all share and tear a stage it will just be postponed (hopefully when the weather is better) we are all pretty damn bummed we had to jump through a 100 hoops to get prepared to to this but the stress is gone now so we are going to be booking weekends and we are going to hold up in the snow and finish writing our new record Ghost Of The Saltwater Machines.”
Architect Added To Dillinger Escape Plan Tour
Syracuse's ARCHITECT has been added to the upcoming THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN tour which also features A LIFE ONCE LOST and GENGHIS TRON. The trek is scheduled to kick off on December 3 in Detroit Michigan.
For a list of dates, visit the MySpace page of ARCHITECT's record label, Black Market Activities.
ARCHITECT's full-length debut, "All is Not Lost", was released in January.
The band previously stated about its musical and lyrical approach, "We will champion ideas and change. We will deliver brutal music with even more brutal be-all-end-all truth and opinions. We will stick to our guns; will will not tolerate fence-sitting. We will tell you what is on our minds. We will tell you how it is and if you refuse to make your own mind up, we will make it for you. No regrets. No bullshit. No fucking trends. No stupid, short-sighted ideas of rockstardom. Musically, we will not pretend we are inventing or reinventing a genre of music that has been wriiten already. We won't pretend that our influences dont exist, we will not rip off obscure bands' ideas and pretend they are our own. Instead we will proudly wear our influences on our sleeves and wave banners of homage to let bands like SABBATH, CROWBAR, COALESCE, GROUNDWORK, DEADGUY, EYEHATEGOD, etc. know that we love them and want to take what they have already done and put our twist and passions into what they started so many years ago."
Architect Check In From The Road

After returning home, Architect will be heading back into Michel’s basement to work on their sophomore release for Black Market Activities. The band hopes to finish pre-production this winter and record in early 2008.
