TTEOTD Comment On New Record, Video Available
South Carolina death metallers THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD were recently reviewed by both Way Too Loud and Sick Drummer.com, and have commented on the band's forthcoming record, Malice, while recently completing a North American tour offering direct support to The Red Chord. Recently sitting down with Way Too Loud.com while in Canada, THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD guitarist Justin Longshore talked about the band's new record, due out August 21 through Prosthetic Records. Excerpts include:
WTL: Since Erik Rutan is producing your new album Malice, what’s he like in the studio?
Justin: He’s a pretty hard-working dude. He tries to get the best performance out of all of us, and he worked us really hard. He’s a different guy outside of the studio. He’s a cool guy, and we’re really good friends now. It’s definitely cool to meet him, because I grew up with Morbid Angel. 'Domination' is my favorite death metal record of all time. We actually recorded "Dominate" for the European release, which I’m sure you can find on the internet sooner or later! We ended up covering that song because it was a last-minute thing, because the label wanted a cover for the European release. Who better than Morbid Angel if we’re in one of the guy's studio, who actually recorded the song, right? We got it pretty close to how they actually recorded it, like the same setup guitar-wise and all that. We didn’t use the same guitar, but we did use the same amp, and cab, and they have a “rat” pedal they use just on that specific song. It’s pretty cool!
WTL: What can we expect from Malice?
Justin: We’re doing a lot more guitar work now, and the drums have been stepped up. Most people think that we were kind of going in a more commercial direction, but it’s definitely the opposite of that. It’s a lot heavier and faster. I’m not a fan of just changing for certain people. We’ve got to stand behind our music 110 percent before anyone else can. We’re the people writing it, so we should write what we like to do! We’re very happy with what we’ve done. I know everyone says that when they come out with a new record, but seriously we’re all really satisfied with it. We focused a lot on song structure, and putting all of our old influences in, and it came out great!
WTL: Will the lyrics on Malice be similar to the themes you were doing in Bloodlust?
Justin: Actually, not on this record. We changed it up a little bit. We’ve got a new singer now, and he entered the studio with a few songs written. Me and him wrote a lot of the lyrics in the studio. Me and him pretty much did it 50/50, and I’ve never written lyrics, ever. It came out pretty good because we double-teamed the lyrics, because we had the whole concept of Malice, and all the atrocities in the world.
WTL: In the past, you’ve been a very hard touring band. Has a lot of your audience come from so many live shows?
Justin: Yeah, I think so. We put a lot of effort into out live show to create the intensity that’s on the record. I think we’ve been touring for so long that I think we’ve got that connection. Our live show is what we love to do!

TTEOTD Return From European Tour, Reveal New Song
THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD has returned from the band’s first trip to Europe, touring with Ion Dissonance and Dead To Fall earlier this month. “The shows have been awesome and we've made a lot of friends over here in Europe,” guitarist Justin Longshore said prior to the band’s last European show. “It's been a blast, but I can definitely say everyone is ready to go back home, have a few days off, and then go right back out for the Red Chord tour. Plus, we really miss shitty U.S. fast food joints.”
Now gearing up for a direct touring slot alongside The Red Chord, and also featuring Despised Icon, All Shall Perish and See You Next Tuesday, THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD is already hard at work supporting the band’s forthcoming album, ‘Malice,’ due out August 21 through Prosthetic Records. An mp3 of one of the record’s new tracks will be unveiled on Friday, June 1 via the band’s MySpace player and Prosthetic Records.com, while the band will be debuting new material on the road in anticipation of the release of ‘Malice.’
The follow-up to THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD’s 2005 release ‘Bloodlust,’ ‘Malice’ was recorded with producer Erik Rutan (Cannibal Corpse, Vital Remains, Goatwhore) earlier this spring at Rutan’s Mana Studios in Florida. The record will also mark the debut of new vocalist Nate Johnson (ex-Premonitions of War, ex-Deadwater Drowning).
Exclusive pre-order packages, as well as album cover art, are available here.

TTEOTD Reveal Cover Art for "Malice"
South Carolina's THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD have unveiled cover art for the band's forthcoming effort, 'Malice.' The album, the band's second full-length and the follow-up to 2005's 'Bloodlust,' has been slated for an August 21 release through Prosthetic Records. Cover artwork, again designed by artist Paul Romano (The Red Chord, Mastodon), can be viewed here here, where the album is also available for pre-order in two exclusive CD / t-shirt packages.
Bringing Romano back on board again for artwork, the band also tapped producer Erik Rutan (Cannibal Corpse, Vital Remains, Goatwhore) to record 'Malice' at Mana Studios earlier this spring. Johnson is currently making his live debut with the band on a current European tour with Dead To Fall, THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD and Ion Dissonance, before the band returns to America later this month to support The Red Chord in June and July. Also playing that tour are Despised Icon, All Shall Perish, See You Next Tuesday. More...

Nate has now announced his departure from The_Network as a result of his commitments. Cannae bassist, Shane Frisby, has taken over his duties for the Gaza tour and New England Metal Fest. The_Network will announce a new permanent bassist soon.

By The Sins Fell Angels Replace Ex-TTEOTD Singer
Georgia metal act By The Sins Fell Angels have parted ways with vocalist Anthony Gunnells (also formerly of Through The Eyes Of The Dead). Here is the band's official statement regarding his departure and replacement:
"What's up, everybody. We just wanted to inform you all that Anthony Gunnells will no longer be singing with By The Sins Fell Angels. Anthony felt he had more important things to do than come to band practice every weekend and we agreed a long time ago before he even joined this band that if you don't come or make an effort to come to practice, you can not be in this band or play shows. He could not follow this policy so we asked him to leave. Its nothing against his talents as a vocalist at all, its just a pure work ethic issue. We wish Anthony the best in whatever he chooses to do next.
On another note, we have a replacement. We'd like to announce Evan Williams as our new singer. Evan's talents are pretty much equal with Anthony's but only a few have had the chance hear him, and we can not wait to start playing shows and "finally" record a demo for you guys. Thanks for being so patient with all the change that's going on with us. Hope to see everyone May 11th at Ground Zero. Laterrr."

The Red Chord Plan Headlining Summer Tour
THE RED CHORD are currently in the studio, working on their upcoming album that is due out August 2007.
The band have just announced they will be hitting the road for the first time in 2007 on a headlining US tour, supported by THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD, DESPISED ICON, ALL SHALL PERISH, SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY and GENGHIS TRON.
"This summer marks our first full US headlining tour since the release of Clients. The tour is five bands, all on different labels bringing their own styles, identities and sounds to the table to make this run into the biggest and best experience it can be for all involved, especially the kids coming to check it out." Says frontman Guy Kozowyk "It is an honor and a pleasure to have Through the Eyes of the Dead, Despised Icon, All Shall Perish, See You Next Tuesday and Genghis Tron (only for three days - but three days of Genghis Tron is better than no Genghis Tron, right?) on this tour. We look forward to seeing you all on the road this summer!"

There are some really killer vocalists out there and it was definitely a tough decision. Thanks to all of the fans for all of the support in this situation."

Ion Dissonance Tour Dates, New Album Details
Montreal-based quintet ION DISSONANCE are getting ready to record their 3rd album and follow-up to the ABACUS Release "Solace" that left reviewers raving in 2005. ION DISSONANCE's new album is going to be entitled "Minus The Herd" and will be recorded with Zeuss. Singer Kevin McCaughey says of the album: "This is by far some of the best stuff we have ever written. There are some changes in direction with this new release, but I definitely think the die hard Ion followers will still be into the new stuff. I guess the only word to describe this new album would have to be brutal. Just straight and plain heaviness."
ION DISSONANCE will be hitting the road in the United States with Arsis and Beneath The Massacre with a stop at the California Metal Fest. They will also be touring Europe with Dead To Fall and Through The Eyes Of The Dead in May. "As for the upcoming tour dates I have to say that I, myself and the rest of the band are really looking forward to heading out with our good friends in Beneath the Massacre for their first strand of US shows. I have never been out to the west coast and I am really excited about it. We have also just confirmed our first ever European tour with our good friends in Dead to Fall and Through The Eyes Of The Dead. We are all really excited about this, and I can't wait to hit the road with these new songs once the recording process is finished."

TTEOTD Plan European Tour w/ Dead To Fall
South Carolina's THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD have been confirmed for a European tour alongside Dead To Fall and Ion Dissonance throughout May later this year. Currently demoing material and rehearsing to enter the studio to record the band's new album, 'Malice,' the tour marks THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD's first time touring Europe since forming in 2003.

Alan Douches (Unearth, Shadows Fall) will handle mastering and Paul Romano (Mastodon, The Red Chord) will return for artwork duties.
"The new material is coming along nicely," guitarist Justin Longshore said previously. "The songs are a lot more mature and the music is much faster, aggressive, and way more pissed off. I think fans are going to really love it. We are really pumped to work with Erik Rutan on 'Malice.' We've never worked with a producer and I don't think we could have chosen anyone better; we really admire the work he's done in Morbid Angel and Hate Eternal and also the engineering efforts he's produced for Cannibal Corpse, Hate Eternal, and Premonitions of War, among others. After we hit the studio, we plan to dominate the world once again and tour throughout the year. We will be playing a lot of new places including Europe. 2007 is going to be an exciting year for TTEOTD."

Light This City Replace If Hope Dies On Tour
Bay Area thrashers LIGHT THIS CITY have joined forces with labelmates Through The Eyes of the Dead and The Acacia Strain along with From A Second Story Window, replacing If Hope Dies on the upcoming Through The Eyes of the Dead headlining tour. Sponsored by Draven Shoes and Decibel magazine, the tour will cross the US from November 16 - December 17 and marks LIGHT THIS CITY's return to the road after the band's two-month stint on the Spreading The Disease tour alongside Suicide Silence, All Shall Perish and Nights Like These and subsequent three-week run alongside Caliban and The Acacia Strain.
"We are more than excited about getting the opportunity to tour with our good friends in Through the Eyes of the Dead and The Acacia Strain," drummer Ben Murray said. "We have toured with both of those bands in the past and can't wait to join forces again! We'll see all of you guys at the shows. It should be a month of good times."
LIGHT THIS CITY continues to support the band's third release, 'Facing The Thousand,' which was released in September through Prosthetic Records. Produced by Zack Ohren and featuring artwork by Robot Plague's Mario Garza, 'Facing The Thousand' was recorded in March of 2006 and is the follow-up to 2005's 'Remains of the Gods.' The record features a guest vocal appearance by The Black Dahlia Murder's Trevor Strnad on the track "Fear of Heights."
