Background

It all began in 1991, the first of an unholy trinity of demos was complete. The young lads knew they had started something dark; something evil; something out of this world. They didn't disappoint with the release of their debut album 'The Principle of Evil Made Flesh' in 1994 on the label Cacophonous. The full length CD was a menagerie of gothic keyboards, metal riffing and Vampyric imagery. In other words the ultimate hammer horror soundtrack.

Drawing from an incredibly infinite list of influences, including the likes of Bathory, Celtic Frost and Diamanda Galas, and also the literary genius of Lord Byron, Sheridan LeFanu, Friedrich Nietzsche, Bram Stoker and Charles Baudelaire, Cradle Of Filth have produced albums of ever increasing quality. Soaring, sonic masterpieces that envelop you and take you away into the darkest depths of the collective Cradle mind. A dreamlike place full of legend, myths and Vampyres.

With 10 years in the past, Cradle Of Filth only have the future to conquer. Their recent concerts have built a fan base they never dreamed of. They truly have withstood the test of time.

Top Ten Halloween Metal Songs

Its no secret that heavy metal and Halloween go together like a hockey mask and a machete. While there are numerous songs you can list under the hallowed category, here are ten terrifying tracks to bleed your ears dry.

10. Moonspell - "I'll See You In My Dreams"

Who knew such a soft jazz song from 1924 could be recreated over 80 years later as a wickedly heavy and haunting track from Portugal's biggest metal export. It was recorded for a film of the same title, and the video features clips from the movie along with an amazing array of starving Zombies who seem to have a craving for Portuguese flesh.

Cradle Of Filth Checks In With Band Update

Cradle of Filth's Dani Filth has issued the following update about the band's recent activity:

"Dear, dear Filth-ites, it seems Autumn is well and truly upon us, judging by the deluge of rain and sloppy leaves dancing across the manor lawn. Still, it means the album and that most joyous of occasions, Hallowe'en, are just around the corner, barely a skeleton of a month away.

"We've been particularly busy here in the Cradle camp in the few weeks or so, firstly with working towards the completion of all the album formats artwork-wise, and secondly, with the associated press trips and heavy phoner schedule that a new release always brings. It has been absolutely rampant, but fun, and very surreal.

"Germany was great as all the interviews the first day were conducted from the skyline bar of the Hotel, affording us 180 degree views of Berlin on a warm September afternoon and a steady stream of chilled Chardonnay and thick German beer. Then the evening saw us ensconced in an Addams Family style kitschy eatery called 'White Trash' (uncanny…) with a flock of journalists, including the near-legendary Thomas Clausen, chugging back cocktails and reminiscing on eighties metal, as gourmet burgers and onion rings the size of your head were devoured. The next day interviews were held two doors down at the Last Cathedral bar, with its faux medieval vibe and dungeon-esque interior. Incidentally this will be the venue for the band's visit on October 29th, when we will be accompanying an official playback of our new album, following a live appearance on German MTV for our latest video, Forgive Me Father (I Have Sinned). Dani Filth Nominated As "Suffolk Icon"

Eveningstar.co.uk is reporting that vocalist Dani Filth from Cradle of Filth is currently among the top 10 nominees in a vote for people to identify Suffolk area icons:

When Suffolk residents were asked to identify their icons of the county, most people expected traditional favourites such as the Suffolk Punch, the Heritage Coast and Adnams and Greene King beers to feature prominently.

As expected, all of these have been put forward to the Suffolk Icons website, but also in the current top 10 is an extremely unlikely icon – the self-styled “crypt-crawling” frontman of “death metal” rock band, Cradle of Filth. According to Suffolk folk, the one-time Hadleigh-based rocker Mr Dani Filth is a true icon of the county.
