Cattle Decapitation Streams "Mammals In Babylon"

"The Anthropocene Extinction" is the forthcoming new full-length from San Diego deathgrind icon Cattle Decapitation. Set for world wide release August 7th, 2015 via Metal Blade Records, the follow-up to 2012's "Monolith Of Inhumanity" was again captured by producer Dave Otero (Allegaeon, Cephalic Carnage) at Flatline Audio in Denver, Colorado, and includes guest appearances from Philip H. Anselmo, Tristan Shone/Author & Punisher and Bethlehem's Mr. Jurgen Bartsch.

Thematically, with "The Anthropocene Extinction" we are transported forward to man's last gasps, reminiscent of what is currently going on with the Laysan Albatrosses on the island of Midway Atoll. The birds and aquatic wildlife of the Pacific Ocean are mistaking the vast amounts of man-made plastic items for food, ingesting it and dying in large numbers, rotting where they fall and exposing to the world what is happening to the ecosystems of the earth's oceans - the most unknown and unexplored part of our planet.

As a precursor to its release, today seventh track and second single, "Mammals In Babylon" is available for communal appreciation below. Offers guitarist Josh Elmore:

"'Mammals in Babylon' was one of the earliest songs written for the new album. At that time we had completed several other tunes that fell more on the epic side of our writing style. As a foil to that strategy, 'Mammals' came about based upon a desire to concoct a no-BS, straight-forward ripper. Blending a brutal death metal assault with groovier passages that leads into a bleak, yet triumphant chorus, 'Mammals' has a pounding quality that gives way to a buzz-sawing completion. All the while [vocalist] Travis' [Ryan] lyrics frame humanity's infancy in paradise and our evolution to 'maturity' which now finds us dwelling in a wasteland of our own creation. We invite you to take a listen to the next track from 'The Anthropocene Extinction.'" More...

Armstrong Metal Fest Announces Lineup

It’s now less than a month until Armstrong Metalfest flings its doors open to the gathering masses, welcoming in another round of Canada’s long running camping festival.

Co-founder Jesse Valstar comments: “Bretton [Melanson, the other co-founder] and I started this when we were 19, and it was a large undertaking. Now we’re 26 and it’s grown beyond us! But now we have the necessary reputation to put on a hell of a show.”

And what a show it is: 36 bands in two days, topped off with Californian deathgrind stars Cattle Decapitation and Canada’s own extreme metallers Anciients. The rest of the bill is a feast of Canadian and U.S. metal, from the vicious deathcore leanings of Angelmaker to the technical heavy metal leanings in Caveat, the power-infused melodeath of the hotly-tipped Crimson Shadows to the blackened death metal roar of Xul.

As well as a stellar lineup, there’s plenty of other forms of entertainment to keep a metalhead amused. Not least, AMF have announced a full-sized wrestling ring, kindly provided by BC’s very own Thrash Wrestling, which will stage a 2-hour show, the winner receiving a custom-made AMF Championship belt. There’s also a farmer’s market on the Saturday, “perfect to get blueberries for a hangover,” quips Valstar, and a long-standing tradition of a Beer Helmet March, where the creator of the most inventive beer case helmet gets two free passes for the next year. Random participants also get merch donated kindly from various bands of the festival, so it can pay off to slap a beercase over your head and walk.

Armstrong Metalfest runs from July 17th - 18th. You can pick up tickets right here. The finalized lineup is as follows: More...

Cattle Decapitation Streaming Flexi Track

San Diego death grind outfit Cattle Decapitation will make a Decibel Flexi Series debut in the August 2015 issue with previously unreleased track, "Cannibalistic Invasivorism."

The ravaging hymn - which will not appear on the band's forthcoming new full-length, "The Anthropocene Extinction" - is currently available for public ingestion below, courtesy of MetalSucks.net.

Expounds frontman Travis Ryan of the tune: "One thing we learned from our last couple albums was that an album's flow can make or break an album and it's an often overlooked part of the album-making process. We ended up with a couple songs that got squeezed out of the album's flow that were naturally then deemed 'bonus tracks,' and the track 'Cannibalistic Invasivorism' was one of them.

"It's a song about doing away with pestiferous, invasive species of life through eating them, similar to the invasivorism movement by culinary artistes who use things like snails, squirrels, etc., or any animal/insect that need their numbers thinned down in any given area or ecosystem to have a positive impact on the region. Of course, in the 'turning the tables' nature of Cattle Decaptiation, in this song we find the target being the single most invasive species on planet earth: the human being. Enjoy!" More...

Cattle Decapitation Unveils New Album

In 2012, Cattle Decapitation released "Monolith Of Inhumanity." Here we are, three years later, and now Cattle Decapitation and Metal Blade Records are pleased to unveil the band's magnum opus with "The Anthropocene Extinction," set for world wide release August 7th, 2015.

Bringing back "Monolith Of Inhumanity" producer Dave Otero (Allegaeon, Cephalic Carnage), Cattle Decapitation returned to Flatline Audio in Denver, Colorado, eager to revisit the close collaboration that helped bring that record to life.

"Dave is a bonafide producer," elaborates vocalist Travis Ryan. "He's got a lot of great ideas and this time we heard him out pretty religiously because making Monolith... had worked out so well. We've always kind of co-produced our records with whoever we brought in, but these last two we did a lot more listening to what he had to say rather than just sticking with what we were saying. Sometimes we shot down his ideas and vice versa, but that discussion was always beneficial. He basically becomes the fifth member of the band at that point, and I think that kind of relationship is the best way to get anything out of anybody." More...

Cattle Decapitation Finishes Work On Album

Cattle Decapitation just issued the following update about wrapping up working on a forthcoming full-length release:

"We are finally done mixing and mastering our NEW ALBUM! Because of the vinyl industry blowing up, our album won't be out for about another 5 months and will be released mid-summer!

"In a few months we will announce the album title, tracklist, pre-orders and the cover artwork by Wes Benscoter, which in our opinions, is our best album cover yet!

"Its gonna be agonizing for us to wait this long as we are very stoked on how this came out and are anxious to show you all this beast of a follow-up to 2012's 'Monolith of Inhumanity!'

"Sorry for the wait but trust that we will be spending this time creating killer merch, pre-order bundles, a new set with songs you haven't heard in a long while and plotting our world tour!" More...

Housecore Horror Film Festival Day 1

The festival was able to condense four hours down to one but the first day of HHFF started an hour late. I didn’t expect to see any of Evil United since they were suppose to have ended at 12:30, but my 1:15 arrival time allowed me to catch a couple of songs from the Austin-based band. Evil United may be local, but the group consists of veterans such as Jason McMaster—who was well known in the eighties as front man for Dangerous Toys and Watchtower. In addition to Evil United, he now sings in Ignitor and Broken Teeth. McMaster’s voice soared through the parking lot that comprised Midway’s stage, Evil U was the sole representative of classic heavy metal at the festival. More...
