Mystic Festival Adds Blood Fire Death To Lineup

They say that no one is irreplaceable. Well, that’s not entirely true… In 2004, the world of metal suffered an irreparable loss – Thomas “Quorthon” Forsberg passed away. The man who, under the sign of Bathory, singlehandedly changed this music and laid the foundations for contemporary black metal, and but a moment later, also for viking metal, forging the path ahead for the next generations of artists who combine the uncompromising nature of metal with their local, traditional culture.

In the summer of 2024, a black metal Quorthon tribute supergroup took the stage of the Norwegian Beyond the Gates Festival, performing the classic Bathory repertoire and proving that this flame is still burning. We are elated to announce that this special project, Blood Fire Death – A Tribute to Quorthon and the Music of Bathory, will come down to Gdansk in June to let you peek behind the gates of Valhalla.

The band will perform with the following line-up:
Erik Danielsson (Watain) – vocals
Ivar Bjørnson (Enslaved) – guitar
Blasphemer (Vltimas, ex-Mayhem) – guitar
Apollyon (Aura Noir) – bass and vocals
Faust (Djevel, ex-Emperor) – drums
They will be joined on stage by many distinguished guests… Their identities will soon be revealed.

The concept behind the Blood Fire Death – A Tribute to Quorthon and the Music of Bathory performance was conceived in line with Quorthon’s own conceptualisation of how a Bathory concert should be staged if his music were ever to be performed live.

Mystic Festival will take place in Gdansk, Poland at the Gdansk Shipyard on June 4th through 7th, 2025.

Tickets are available now on the Mystic Festival homepage here More...

Vltimas Releases New Single "Invictus"

No one can challenge Vltimas. The unholy trinity of David Vincent (ex-Morbid Angel), Rune Eriksen (ex-Mayhem) and Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy) have ruled the underground with a metallic fist for more than 30 years.

Their new album ascends to truly epic heights. On the album's third single, Vltimas issue a thunderous proclamation that they'll never bow down to anyone.

"Invictus" is nothing short of a grand coronation. Flo comes pounding out of the gate before a string of blast beats unfurls with the impressive ease of a king's scroll.

"Once in a blue moon comes a man of great conviction / Making his presence boisterously known."

David issues that edict with a familiar snarl, but his time blessing the sick has only sharpened his delivery. On "Epic," he's brandishing a new style of death metal vocals. Heck, you can actually understand what he's saying, which only proves how Vltimas thrives on pushing the boundaries of extreme metal.

Sure, Rune's tremolo picking is cleaner, faster and more cold-blooded than ever. But "Invictus" shows off the truly blasphemous extent of his axe-wielding powers. Led by a headstrong riff, the song furiously charges to the finish line, only to end with pangs of eerie, melodic dissonance. More...

Vltimas Debuts "Scorcher" Visualizer Video

Vltimas are legends of the underworld. Any good Satanist knows to bow down and worship at the horned feet of David Vincent (ex-Morbid Angel), Rune Eriksen (ex-Mayhem) and Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy). Their debut was greeted with a rapturous procession of devil horns. But with their new album, these gods of dark, extreme metal have ascended to truly epic heights.

Today, Vltimas are releasing "Scorcher," the album's hellacious second single. You can check out a visualizer video for the song below.

Some metal songs prefer to slowly unfold before blowing out your ear drums. But rest assured, "Scorcher" is not a slow burn. Sure, the guitars lure you in with a smoky seance. Once Rune tightens those chords into icy black tremolo picking though, Vltimas take off like a bat out of hell. The amps crank up; Flo fires off blast beats that are hot enough to singe an angel's wings, while David Vincent unleashes a miles-long battle cry.

"Satan laughs as worlds collide!"

His growl is so massive, so heartless, you'd better believe that he's talking about himself.

"'Scorcher' brings to life a fantastic story of the great purge that's coming our way", says Vincent. "Humanity has been sleepwalking toward this reckoning for centuries. There will be no refuge, nor mercy granted." More...

Mystic Festival (PL) Adds 16 New Bands To Line-Up

Insomnium, Terrorizer, Textures, Vltimas, Villagers of Ioannina City, Gutalax, Skálmöld, Gaupa, Evil Invaders, Party Cannon, Dödsrit, Witching, Dvne, Massive Wagons, Ditz and ten56. have announced their visit to Gdansk. You’ve got 16 more reasons to come to Mystic Festival in June of 2024.

How do you like your death metal? Melancholic and melodic as offered by Finland's Insomnium, or brutal and relentless - the cult Terrorizer returns to the stage, with David Vincent and Pete Sandoval in the lineup! Significantly, one of the most important voices of death metal will be heard at two shows in Gdansk - David will also headline Vltimas, the supergroup he formed with Blasphemer (ex-Mayhem) and Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy).

"Sex, Drugs and Fecal Gore" - the title of this song captures well the sound and character of the Gutalax performances, so here come the Czech heroes of shitty grind. The Brits from Party Cannon, with their crushing slam death metal, also know how to get the party going. The opposite pole of musical experiences will be handled by the Greeks from Villagers of Ioannina City, known for their progressive approach to stoner rock, and the Swedes from Gaupa, playing psychedelic hard rock.

Textures, masters of heavy weight prog-metal, will have a lot to offer to those who value technique and excellent sound, as well as Evil Invaders, moving freely in the territory between thrash and heavy metal. Dvne is also progressive metal in a sense but heavily influenced by post-metal monumentalism.

Skálmöld will bring Viking battle songs from Iceland, Dödsrit will batter their audience with d-beat-driven black metal, and the wounded will be slaughtered by Americans from Witching, who balance black metal aggression with doom solemnity. Massive Wagons invite you to a shameless, loud rock'n'roll party, Ditz also play rock, but with a lot of ambition and a solid dash of hardcore. Closing out today's stakes are ten56., who will come from Paris to unleash mayhem with their mixture of deathcore and nu-metal.

Mystic Festival will take place in Gdansk, Poland at the Gdansk Shipyard on June 5th through 8th, 2024.
