Members of Snot, Nothingface & Prong Form New Band

NOISE WITHIN is the name of the new Los Angeles-based project featuring singer Boris Bouma (EPIDEMIC), bass player John "Tumor" Fahnestock (SNOT, AMEN, LO-PRO), guitarist Aaron Slipp (PRONG) and drummer Tommy Sickles (NOTHINGFACE). Four of the band's tracks — "Opportunity", "Privilege", "In the Room" and "829" — are currently available for streaming on the NOISE WITHIN MySpace page.

Bouma had just entered Billboard at 34 and was touring with his band EPIDEMIC. Fahnestock had toured the world as a founding member of SNOT and later AMEN, and was now doing the same with LO-PRO. However, when a widespread panic hit the recording industry, Elektra and Geffen Records left both their bands homeless.

Having lived through the death of Lynn Strait, singer from SNOT, and the loss of two recording contracts, John took a break from music and started a T-shirt business, 313 Merch.

Boris, having moved to Hollywood from his native Holland across the Atlantic to chase his dreams, devoted himself to drugs.

Forming any type of band wasn't on the agenda, until the universe placed the two backstage at a NINE INCH NAILS show, where they both worked as roadies to finance their new careers. Not only had the paths that lead them there been similar, they shared a taste for music, "King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime" by FAITH NO MORE being one of their favorites.

Boris had been piling up material, and with the help of Aaron Slipp, who after being PRONG's touring guitarist now was a free agent, the first NOISE WITHIN demo's were made with a drum computer.

After a long search, a drummer was found in Tommy Sickles.

"We are doing this for our pleasure, at our convenience", the one-year sober Boris says. "In my previous bands music became a job, and the studio may as well have been a cubicle. NOISE WITHIN didn't meet through the classifieds or management, we're friends. Van-proof. I really long to smell these guys asses and feet."

About the dying industry, he raves. "I think it's awesome. Kids have been ripped off for years, and stealing music is a natural result. Everything changes, and labels that resist that will go under. In the end, music will survive. There will always be music."

"The last label I was on gave us half a million in advance — ridiculous. We ended up sculpting our music to the taste of marketing guys. NOISE WITHIN recorded a demo in six hours, for one-hundred and fifty bucks — old school."

If schedules allow it, NOISE WITHIN will play its first shows in 2008.

Invitro Announces Album Release Date

INVITRO, the California-based band featuring ex-SNOT/SOULFLY guitarist Mikey Doling, has been added as the support act on a number of upcoming dates on the STATIC-X/OTEP tour.

"We rocked 57 shows with my best brothers from my SNOT days and with Sonny Mayo in SEVENDUST now so it's been an awesome experience for everyone," says Invitro guitarist Mikey Doling. "We are going home for a week and then we start touring with STATIC-X. I'm very stoked to be touring with these guys, as we did a bit of touring together when I was in SOULFLY. It's always great to tour with old friends and I'm looking forward to a lot of good times with INVITRO."

In other news, INVITRO has announced the release date for its debut album, "When I Was A Planet', which is now scheduled to land in stores on August 7, 2007. The album will be released by Gridiron Records, a new label founded by Doling and Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle Kyle Turley.

"I'm very excited to announce our release date for our debut record," commented Doling. "We've been working our asses off to reach this goal and we are releasing the record August 7th, 2007 which is Lynn Strait's [late SNOT frontman] birthday. The date is very symbolic for me personally. I can't wait for everyone to finally hear it."

Invitro To Play Free Benefit Concert

Invitro, featuring ex-Snot/Soulfly guitarist Mikey Doling, have announced a free benefit concert at Minxx strip club in Las Vegas on April 4th, 2007 at 12 noon. The show will be hosted by comedian Ralphie May of the NBC's hit reality series, "Last Comic Standing". Proceeds raised during the performance will go towards the medical bills for three Minxx employees who were wounded in a February shooting that broke out at the club.

43-year-old Minxx security guard Tom Urbanski was left a paraplegic as a result of the multiple gunshot wounds he suffered during the shooting. Since then, Urbanski has endured a series of costly medical procedures and rehabilitation that will continue for the rest of his life.

"I've been good friends with Minxx owner Dwight Chornomud since we played college football together at San Diego State," says Gridiron Records Kyle Turley. "When I heard about the horrible tragedy that happened at Dwight's club I had to do everything I could to help these people out and get back on track. I also think this incident cast a shadow on NFL players and wanted people to know that most of us don't condone the reprehensible actions of a few select players on the evening
in question."

Invitro are currently finishing up a 57-date tour with Sevendust and Diecast. The band is set to release their debut album, When I Was A Planet, in summer of 2007 through Gridiron Records, the new label founded by Doling and Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle Kyle Turley.

Snot To Reform Under The Name Invitro

Three out of five members of the legendary Santa Barbara metal/punk rock hybrid SNOT — guitarists Mikey Doling (ex-SOULFLY), Sonny Mayo (SEVENDUST) and bassist John Fahnestock (KCUF, AMEN) — reunited for the first time since the passing of SNOT frontman Lynn Strait. Mayo and Fahnestock joined Doling and his new band INVITRO for a cover of SNOT's "Stoopid" during their November 1, 2006 performance at Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood, California.

SNOT frontman Lynn Strait died in a car accident in 1998, putting an end to a career that generated considerable promise but only one studio album, the 1997 Geffen Records release "Get Some". Also killed was the band's mascot Dobbs, Strait's dog who adorned the cover of SNOT's debut album. The band had been recording their sophomore album and had completed 10 songs at the time of Strait's tragic passing.

INVITRO recently finished recording its debut album, which will be released in early 2007 through GridIron Records, a new label founded by Doling, Kyle Turley (offensive tackle for Kansas City Chiefs), Max Harris and former SNOT manager Nic Adler. Audio clips of the band's debut album can be heard at their MySpace page.

Ex-Snot/Soulfly Guitarist To Launch Record Label

Ex-Snot/Soulfly guitarist Mikey Doling is proud to announce the formation of his new label GridIron Records. The label is a joint venture between Doling, Kyle Turley, (Offensive tackle for Kansas City Chiefs), Max Harris and former Snot manager Nic Adler.

“I was on tour with Pantera and had just got off stage in New Orleans. I’m on the bus drinking beers and Kyle Turley, who at the time was an offensive tackle for the New Orleans Saints, comes on the bus and says ‘Who's the guy from Snot?”, remembers ex-Snot/Soulfly guitarist Mikey Doling. “So I raised my hand like a school boy thinking he was gonna kick my ass for something Lynn or I did in the past, but he freaked because he was a huge Snot fan. From there on we’ve been really good friends.”

“There's so many great bands out there that are amazing but if you’re not the trend of the week you don’t have a chance of getting a record deal,” continues Doling. “I was getting frustrated seeing all these great bands without a record deal and I asked Kyle to start up a label with me and here we are. We’re going full force and we're signing good bands with serious talent, devoid of trends.”

The first two records released from the label will be psychedelic rockers The Hairbrain Scheme and Doling’s own Invitro, a new project he put together with ex-members of Los Angeles based The Wizards. Both artists will release their debut album through the label in early 2007.

The label is also in negotiations with a number of other artists including LA thrash metal outfit Instinct of Aggression and Asesino, the new death metal project featuring Dino Cazares (ex- Fear Factory) and Tony Campos (Static X). Asesino’s debut album, “Cristo Satanico”, is also slated to feature guest appearances by Andreas Kisser (Sepultura) and Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed).

GridIron Records recently launched a MySpace site at and has uploaded tracks from Invitro and The Hairbrain Scheme on their MySpace page.

KCUF Prepare To Unleash Debut Album

KCUF, the new project of Crazy "White" Sean (Ex-GWAR roadie) and former Snot/Amen/Lo-Pro bassist John "Tumor" Fahnestock, will release their debut on February 21st via 313 Recordings/Corporate Punishment Records. The album titled 'Modern Primitive Punk' includes guest appearances from Shavo Odajian (System of a Down), Sid "DJ Starscream" Wilson (Skipknot) and James "Munky" Shaffer (Korn). Audio is available on from the band's MySpace page.

UPDATE: You can also check out the track "Bloodbath" (featuring Shavo of System of a Down on guitar and Tumor from Snot/Amen on Bass) on the Corporate Punishment Records Myspace page.

Sean says "KCUF was just a project I had in my head for a long time, and I hooked up with Tumor and T-Shirt (AKA Jeff Myers, also one a significant musical contributor to the record), and they helped bring it to life,”he says remembering how the project came together. “And from doing my Freakshow thing, I'd meet all the touring bands that come through Europe and a lot of them became friends, so I just asked them to be involved. A lot of people have called it a "side-project", or whatever, but it is what it is. It's just a record we made for fun, and asked some of our friends to come jam on."

The result is Modern Primitive Punk, a fiery punk-thrash explosion much more akin to the likes of DRI, SOD, and the Circle Jerks than the modern metal styles one would expect from such a collaboration.

According to Tumor, it comes as a result of growing up with a musically mixed background. " I can speak for myself that I really am not trying to appeal to any one genre. I grew up, and it’s safe to say the same for Sean, with both sides of the coin. I mean one minute I was headbanging to Judas Priest and the next I was worshipping bands like DRI, SOD or DEAD KENNEDYS."
