The Maledict Releases New MCD/Single "Imperilled"
Hailing from Australia, the death/doom collective The Maledict has released the brand new three-song single/MCD "Imperilled" last week, on October 5th. This new single features one new song, one reworked track from the band's 2013 demo, and one cover. Check out "Imperilled" in the player below.
The title track heads up the package, bringing 8 minutes of doom. The new material is as laden with melancholy as ever, but now hints at things to come - with a heavy injection of atmosphere and melody to accentuate against the filthy canvas of death/doom metal.
"Waltz Eternal," the leading cut from the band's 2013 demo "Salvation in Yielding" has been reworked from the ground-up, bringing one of the band's favorite live tracks into the present with far superior production.
And finally, the release culminates with a tribute to one of the biggest musical inspirations behind The Maledict's sound as they cover the title track from Paradise Lost's seminal 1991 classic "Gothic", arguably the song that invented death/doom as we know it.
"Imperilled" is available for free on Bandcamp, as well as being released on most streaming digital music services. Check out the MCD in full here: More...
The Maledict Releasing "Dread"
The Maledict will release new album "Dread" on March 4th, 2016 via Transcending Records, with the label commenting:
"The Maledict is a death/doom band which formed in rural Victoria, Australia, in 2012. Originally conceived as a small-scale death metal project between guitarist/vocalist and principal songwriter Ian McLean and bassist Stuart McCarthy, 2013 saw The Maledict transition to full-performing act, with the addition of Karl Freitag as the band's drummer and Stuart Henry taking on lead guitar duties.
"In this year, the band released the 48-minute demo 'Salvation in Yielding', which illustrated the beginnings of a shift in musical direction for the quartet. As the band continued to perform and write, the initial straight death metal approach continued to mutate, inheriting an increasing number of gothic, orchestral and doom metal influences.
"With the release of their self-produced debut studio album, 'Dread,' The Maledict's musical identity finally stands fully realized, weaving between funereal waltzes and crushing death metal with equal zeal." More...
